My niece need help with her culy hair.

Hi everybody, I hope this holiday season is going well for you all.
My niece is biracial, half black and white. Her hair is very, very thick and curly and brassy. She wears it in braids, because she can not do anything else with it. Her mother told me that her hair rarely dries fully when it is put in braids, and get a funny smell to it. My niece is a young teen and would like to wear it in other styles, but it gets to tangled to wear down. I know her mother combs it out as soon as she gets out of the shower. My niece would like to cut off all of her beautiful locks because it is so hard to deal with. I think she is a 3c/4.
All advice is welcome. I know that if they knew how to deal with it in a more natural fashion they would try it. I just hate to see her cut it all off.
Look at her pics. Thank you.

She's such a cute girl!
3a/b medium/coarse but mostly moderately coarse, dense, strong strands
Komaza analysis current: medium to thick/ strands(mostly coarse), very strong elasticity, low porosity(some is), healthy strong hair
Goosefootprints: moderately coarse with some medium; low porosity at roots, normal thru shaft, porous ends.
LCLF:medium,normal,normal
She is very pretty and so is her hair, I feel her pain I'm also bi-racial (black and white) and struggled with my hair my mom used to brush it dry and I did end up cutting it all off when I think I was about 8. by the time it grew back long I was old enough to take care of it myself.

I think things are a lot easier these days with so many products you just have to know where to start.
I love Blended Beauty/cutie products also some curls/curly Q products are good ( milkshake, moist curls moisturizer)

What products do they use on her hair now? and what is it they want to do with it? moisturize, define, combat frizz.

www.sistasplace.biz have a few products to offer and also do samples so you won't have to spend out on full sized products

Thank you for responding. They would like to combat friz and tangles and define the curls more and moisturize w/o keeping her hair damp forever. Her hair is very dry. Also to get them started I think, if they could buy the products at the local store would be great for them. Do you reccomend using a difusser. She would really like to wear her hair down. Just her being able to manage it her self is the end goal.

Her hair is beautiful but it looks very dry. She should dry her hair before she braids it (blow dryer). She could easily wear her hair down with some heavy duty TLC and conditioning. She should also get it trimmed by a curl stylist.

Thank You Suburbanbushbabe I have liked the advice you have given me about my daughters hair. Thank you Curlycaramel for the your advice also. I was thinking that she should get a good moisturizing conditioner maybe with Shea Butter in it. Right now where we live in California the wind just dries your hair out. Also, maybe she should get a leavin conditioner/detangler. Which hair products, gels, cremes, etc. should she get if she wanted to wear her hair down w/o it all ending up in a giant pouf and frizzing up? I would like them to use hair care products from the local stores if posible. I am just learning about all of the hair product to use, and how to use them from all of you on this forum. Thank you.
*I also added another picture of her with her hair braided.* Suburbanbushbabe I will tell her mother to blow dry first before braiding. BTW,Curlycaramel what is the regimen you use for taking care of your hair?

I deep condition maybe once a week, using BB herbal reconditioner or curl Junkie hibiscus and banana deep fix. and do a clarifying mud ( BB volcanic clean ash) maybe once every 2 weeks.

I don't live in the states but when I have been there the products on offer locally are so much better than we have on offer over here in the UK.
but I think they ( or you) need to start with working deep conditioning into her routine and using a leave-in to help wit the dryness.
As far as gels I don't use them so wouldn't be able to help on that.

Do they use anything on her hair now?

Right now I know that she shampoos about every three days and uses a conditioner each time and follows up with a Just For Me hair moisturizing creme.
