Curly Concoctions, where to start with curly products?

I'm anxious to start using some new product on my hair, but am at a loss as to where to start. I see some curly concoctions in the Mart...do you use all of them at once? Is there order to the concoction madness? I'm usually a gel/glaze and go kinda gal, and am overwhelmed by the creams, sprays, gels, recoils, clips etc. Do I just need to buy CG before I get started?
Thanks much for your help.

Yes, it is overwhelming when you first start. The best thing to do is check out posts and pics of curlies with your hair type and see what products and routines they are using. After that, it's just constant experimenting until you find out what works best for your hair.

I have thick, fine 3a hair which may be pretty close to your hair type. This morning I washed with Jessicurl Hair Cleansing Cream, conditioned with Jessicurl Too Shea, then used Re:coil and Devacurl ArcAngell gel. I posted pics today -- last 3 in my fotki. I've also listed what other products I've used for the other pics in my fotki -- maybe that will help you get started.

Thanks Gib, I guess I'm still trying to figure out what my hair type is. I think my curls are a bit tighter than yours (in the back anyway) so may be more 3b? Your curls just look so perfect and uniform, my curls curl in every which direction, the top and side stuff is sort of a loose curl (more like yours) the back is tight and kinky.
This was a decent hair night

I need to get a better picture of the back when it's dry and hasn't been pulled back in a pony tail all day.

Thanks for the tips, I'll just keep my eye out for curls like mine and see what's working for them

Katie, your link didn't work for me, just got a red x. I'm a 3b (I believe) I have a few pics in my fotki if you want to check them out. Not that I'm much help. I'm still trying things out as well.

I like you am a wet gel and go kinda girl. but I've been leaving in some conditioner and trying a few other types of things with Gel and it's been working so far.

It is all overwhelming when you first get started! I personally would not reccommend the curly cocktails when starting out. Instead i would invest in the trial packs of brands like jessicurl and devacurl. There are also many drug store brands that are cg.

It is good to avoid sulfates in shampoo (and probably stop shampooing altogether) and also elimate silicones in your styling products and conditioners (most things that end in cone, and xane)

I usually use a condioner, leave in conditoner (my hair has a tendency to be dry especially in the winter) a curl enhancer/frizz controller and a product to add some hold. Today I used Jessicurl too shea, Jessicurl wdt as leave in, JCS condition and sculpt and JCCC.

From your pics i would say you are a 2c/3a. Good luck.
3A; I have HG products!
Curl enhancer: Mop-C curl cream
DT: Deva Heaven in Hair; JC WDT
Gel: B&A; Arc Angel
Conditioner: Deva OneC; JC too shea
Frizz fighters: CK, JCS C&S
PW: curlynow
JLR, I think the back of my hair is more like yours..tighter curls. Your hair is very pretty. Has anyone ever told you you look like Mini Driver?

Here's a pic face on, dry.

Rejoicingcurly, you snuck in while I was tryinig to get my pix on here. LOL Thanks for the tips. Do you think I'd need to use everything from the trial packs? I'll have to do some research on the Deva and Jessicurl stuff. I am not sure I'm so brave as to not shampoo right now, I might just shampoo less. Right now, I shampoo with PhytoNectar 3-4x/week and condition with PhytoKarite Ultra nourishing conditioner. Maybe I'll cut back to twice a week and see how it goes.

Thanks for the compliment. No no one has said minnie Driver before but I have gotten Julian margulis quite alot.

Some shampoo is okay I think if you feel you need it just try to get one low in sulfates. I use Jessicurl cleansing crem or Deva Curl no poo if I feel the need to shampoo. I would say maybe once a month I use them
