One Week CG

I read Curly Girl one week ago today and quit using shampoo that day. I rinse and condition my hair each morning (only way to keep it from kinking) apply gel and air dry. My question is do you see changes in your hair after a certain amount of time after starting this routine? I know it's only been a week and my hair is used to being straightened every other day. Does it get better than the way it is now though?
It usually takes 3 - 6 weeks for your scalp and hair to adjust to the CG routine. It's important that you only use conditioners that are 'cone and 'xane free, otherwise the silicones will build up and can't be removed unless you use a sulfate shampoo. Also, whenever you wet your hair, be sure to massage/scrub your scalp with your fingertips and rinse well. Then apply conditioner to moisturize and detangle. Depending on how rich the conditioner is, you may need to use more than you would think - from a quarter size blob to palmfuls. Your hair should feel slimy like seaweed. Rinse all or most of it out before using a styling product on dripping wet hair. It takes a bit of experimenting to find what works best for your hair. Keep reading these threads for more information on products and methods. Welcome to the curly girl world!

I was getting discouraged in the begining, cuz there wasn't a huge difference but I'm on week 7 I think and I'm finally seeing a bit of difference, less frizz throughout the day, more defined curls, very soft.
JEN 3b, currently bored with my hair.
I tried strictly CG when I first started to post here and didn't have any success (too many 'cones and not enough information), so I went back to pooing 2-3x weekly and conditioning daily. I then went through the process of elimination, no more cones and ingredients that built up. During that time I discovered a protein sensitivity.

A few months later, (Aug. Sept. timeframe) I went strictly CG for one month...and realized that I do need / want to shampoo but only once every 10 days - 2 weeks.

All in all, it took me about six months to get my CG routine down. HTH

Give yourself some time - some people do take up to six weeks to see a difference, although most will see it within 2-3. It all depends on what kind of condition your hair was in when you started. Your hair will freak out a little bit at first from the re-hydration process, but as it gets used to handling the additional moisture, it should start to settle down
