Default curls that keep falling out

i've always had this problem with my curls falling out after a few hours of being worn down. i thought that perhaps my hair wasn't moisturized enough before adding gel, so i've been experimenting with leaving some conditioner in my hair, but same thing, the curls just fall out after a while.

so now i'm wondering could this be a problem with my gel? I've been using HE body envy which seems to be a harder hold gel (right?) but maybe i need something stronger?

It definitely sounds like you need a stronger gel. Have you tried the HE Set Me Up gel - I believe that's a little stronger than the Body Envy.

ETA: Wanted to also ask if you're sure you're using enough gel?

You might need a stronger gel. I use and love HEBE but wish it had a bit stronger hold. My curls are probably tighter than yours so they don't fall out as in go straighter but they do tend to poof out as the day goes on. I've often layered a bit of the SMU over the BE to give it a bit of extra hold and that seems to help.

Also wanted to ask if you're making sure your hair is totally dry before scrunching the gel out? My curl will fall some if I scrunch too early.
