Did your hair go curly at puberty?

Like Tree3Likes

Up until age five I had 3a botticelli hair, then it went away for some reason and became a frizzy, shapeless triangle. This I had up until a couple of years ago, when I was thirteen, and I've been getting my original curls back glacially. I don't think it'll ever be as perfect with no effort as it was in my infancy, though. xD
Thick, mostly 2c with some 3a; fine texture, medium/high porosity, and a very strange curl & wave pattern.

Started CG (properly) as of 6/31/2009.

Cowash | Suave Naturals Ocean Breeze or Juicy Green Apple
Rinse-out | Burt's Bees Super Shiny
Leave-in | Live Clean Intense Moisturizing
Gel | HESMU

Right now: growing hair past shoulder-length, looking to take decent hair picture (my avatar is my first day of CG).
I had stick straight hair and got a perm in the 3rd grade. When I was in the 5th grade I want my straight hair back and was told by the stylist that curly hair was my natural hair... so yes, I went curly at puberty.
Mod CG - 6/12/09

oh yes, my hair was wavy when I was little then all of a sudden puberty hit and my hair was out of control!
sweet little old me, going about my business with my happy little swirly hair

then puberty came and I learned very quickly that brushing it will NOT tame the curly beast! LOL

Up until puberty I had slightly curly hair and then I started puberty and my hair went CRAZY!!! It looked horrible because my mom would try to brush it out and I didn't really know how to care for it because I was the only one in the family with curly curly hair. I just used my mom's shampoo and then threw it up in a tight bun everyday. It looked gross!!!!
thank goodness I don't do that any more...

Hiya! Yup.Puberty.It happened just this morning.I washed my hair and comb it when it was wet(with conditioner) and left it air dry.Omg.At the back of my neck there were waves and spirals and ringlets.I was soo happy. And I am now too. Can't wait to see what happens.
When I was around 1-2 years old, my mother always kept my hair short. And, I had a headful of ringlets. Then, as I got older, (age 8-9) it was more wavy like. Then puberty, and BOING! Ringlets again....Then in High School I straightened, straightened, straightened. I didn't even know I had the beautiful curls until a friends sister said, "have you ever tried to let your hair air-dry" This was after high school. I had so...many compliments on my hair, that I was like why am I straightening it? and I never straightened it again. I even had people run into me that I went to high school with who asked me if I had gotten a perm.

My hair was curly until I was about 3 and then got really weird. It was just kinda poofy. My mother never helped me learn how to take care of it. She just force my to keep it really short (which looked like a clowns wig). When I turned about 14 I figured out the conditioner was my friend and then I figured out gel was too. So I don't really know if I had curly hair my entire life but I think so.
Bone straight until 19 or 20. Now it's a mix of 2a/b/c. It doesn't straighten at ALL... blowdrying and brushing just make it frizzy. I've finally come to terms with the fact that it's actually wavy, and that my family can't give me any advice. Looks like I'll have to keep looking for answers on my own... and with all of you, of course!
My hair was mostly straight with a little wave up until 6th grade when it started to curl. By 9th grade i had 3b curls and the same thing happened with my sister. No one else in our family has curly hair. Strange.
Ah yes my hair did the opposite XD
I was born with super bouncy 3A hair and as i went through 4th and 5th grade my curl pattern loosened up. From then on I kept fighting my hair
>.<
Silly me! Not until I entered college did I truly begin to embrace my hair

I had waves until 12 and then it curled up to 3a. I kept on brushing it dry though and I had a major poofball going on. At 14 I started straightening it and had those super thick 90210 bangs going on. When I was 16 I started to leave it curly and had long ringlets to my waist. When I was 23 I had my first kid and those lovely ringlets turned into unpredictable kinks and curls. Now at 30 trying to get my ringlets back. Sigh to think I never even had to do a thing to it back then.

Till 6th grade I didn't have much curl to my hair at all. It was slightly wavy. In 6th grade I began to notice my hair getting HUGE and poofy when I brushed it out (equivalent to what curls look when brushed out). I was straightening it everyday, and it wasn't until between 8th and 9th grade I stopped straightening it. I went CG at the beginning of the month and now my hair is happy

I always had wavy hair (I even got a few perms when I was a little girl-my hair is naturally curlier than a perm now), but when I was 11 it started curling and by 12 it was 3b. It's been curly ever since, so I am sure it was puberty. I've known of a few women whose hair straightened or curled when they were pregnant too. I've never been pregnant, so I don't know what mine will do.

Yep! Mine was waves/big curls as a baby, then was only slightly wavy until about 12 - then BOOM! Lol!

When I was pregnant, my curls died down to waves, and now that my boys are 14 months, I'm really seeing the curl come back!

I was rocking 3a/3b curls when my hair grew in. It's hard to tell when the curl pattern loosened. I've pretty much always worn my hair curly/wavy, but it was so manipulated with brushing and product and blow drying that I never noticed the change.

yes!

Born with straight hair and my hair gradually began to get a little wave around 3rd grade, then puberty rolled around and my hair just frizzed up, no definition just a big ball of frizz. it still does that if i don't scrunch any product in.

seventh grade is when i fell into the evil clutches of the straightening iron. I didn't learn how to properly style my hair until a month ago. I'm still shocked at how curly my hair is now, family and friends are also shocked at how curly I've become lol, they love it and so do I.

I was born with pin straight hair. I always curled it with over night curlers when I was in Kindergarten and 1st grade. When I was in 2nd grade it got wavy. It got wavier and wavier until by the time I was in 4th grade it was curly!! I didn't go through puberty until I was in 8th grade. My hair is now at it's curliest point ever but my hair got curly long before puberty ].
I had stick-straight hair until 8th grade, when it frizzed up! I had no idea what to do with it and avoid most pictures of that time lol

My hair's been curly from the start and I'm the only one in my family with curly hair. My brother's is bone straight, my Sister and my Mum have the same hair, just barely wavy-ish? It's still not even as wavy as the 2A pic in the guide here is.

I've been told by my Mum that she thinks I got my Dad's hair. No one can really be sure since most of it was gone before 25.

ETA: I do know one thing for sure, my hair density came from him. The only thing my uncles remember about my Dad's hair when he had it was that it was always thin.
Very fine, high porosity, currently dyed and growing out the relaxed portions. I'm pretty sure my hair's 3b something IIRC. We will be finding out for sure as time goes by.

It's official: My hair just loves Shea Moisture. I use a mixture of products from the Raw Shea Butter, African Black Soap, and Coconut & Hibiscus lines.

I was born with a Mohawk. Then I had loose waves...then curls started appearing. It wasn't until third grade, however, that my curls really appeared. I had long flowing curls and my mother had my hair cut, and it sprung up into tight corkscrew curls. I guess the stylist didn't know how much shrinkage I would have by looking at it.

In high school, my curls started to get looser and now they're still curly but not as tight.
