Digital Perm

It appears that no one replies in the 'straightening/relaxing' forum so I thought to bring my Q over here

Today I came across the phrase digital perm and after some research I now know its a perm that makes hair wavy/loosely curled. The only reviews I could find for it were those by women with straight hair who had it done and so I am wondering if this method can be used for hair thats already curly?

I have 3B curls, and as much as I like my hair sometimes, it can be hard to manage, its hit and miss, I never know how it will turn out, by the end of the day its turned into a frizzy mess and when I am on holiday on a beach its just disgusting. I'm looking for a more manageable change and I do think I look better with it straight. However I don't want to do the japanese straightening method (thermal reconditioning) because when it starts to grow out, I won't have the time or patience to keep straightening the roots until it has grown out (I hate my hair short so cutting it off wouldn't be an option, and I am too poor to get the roots done lol). With the digital perm I'm thinking my natural curls would blend in with the permed loose curly ends more naturally.

So yeah I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this method and if it'd turn out ok/if its possible to do on curly hair. Here is a photo of my hair for reference;

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I think your hair is beautiful the way it is! The streaks are a gorgeous contrast to the darker tones underneath, and your curls look glossy and well-clumped to me.

IMHO, I would say to stay away from anything chemical if you're already having a problem with frizzies. I know for me, chemicals are never the answer, even when I thought they were. I personally think you're better off with what you have rather than dealing yourself a whole new hand of problems, because new growth will always be a problem when it comes to a chemical process. Upkeep becomes a nightmare!

Have you tried rotating your product, or using something heavier/lighter/more moisturizing/less moisurizing/protein free/etc?

I agree your hair is really beautiful. Anytime you involve chemical treatments to your hair, there is going to be maintenance. Any perm will grow out and it may play havoc with your hair. You could end up with a dry frizz mess.

I know that you probably don't want to hear this ... but seeing as you've posted, I'm assuming you're looking for opinions !!

Your hair is so pretty and it really suits your face. Rather than fight what you've been given, why not make the effort to try and work with your hair. It will always look better in the end. You may get away with straightening and perming your hair for awhile, but inevitably your hair will be damaged. You either have to live with it damaged or cut it off.

I was 40 yrs old before I accepted my hair. I get more compliments on my hair than I ever have before. Working with my hair means I don't dread the humidity. I'm not running to a mirror to fix the frizz pieces .... IMHO unless you work with what you have, you'll never really be happy with it.

Type: 3a fine & dense,with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
I totally agree with Frizzbegone, your hair is gorgeous. The highlights look great. It also took me 40 years to love my hair and now I get so many compliments and really take good care of it. Perms will dry it out and make it more frizzy.
