In case you never figured out clipping,

Great videos, shellynot! Thank you for posting them. I'm going to try this new clipping method next time. That may be just what I need to get volume back in my crown; it's been getting too heavy and flat now that it's getting so long.

Like jillipoo and misspam, I'm a little afraid of weird parts sticking up, but I'll give it a try anyway. Of course, with the weight now, it would probably be OK and pull out the loops enough anyway.

wow thanks so much for making these videos! for some reason clipping is the one thing i can never get the hang of - my roots always end up looking flat and weird looking (well i think so anyway). can't wait to try this method out tomorrow

Ok everyone, are we going to call this the "Curl Love clipping method" or the "Shelly Not" clipping method"?

Either way, this will go down in NC history! Great method-thanks so much for sharing!

BTW: Both you and your hair are so pretty! My teen son saw me watching your videos and thought so too!
Anyone diffuse with the DevaFuser using this clipping method? I never know if I'm supposed to have the clips in while I diffuse or not.

Actually, I was plopping when I saw this thread and watched the videos, so I went and clipped my hair, but I think I'm just going to let it air dry because I wasn't really planning to style it.
Shellynot, thank you so much for your very helpful videos! You & your hair are gorgeous! I can't wait to try your clipping method tomorrow!
Great videos, and I love your hair. I have some small butterfly clips but I stopped clipping a while ago. This method may work though. I saw the Deva clips at ULTA, but can you find duckbill clips at a drugstore? Also does anyone plop with the clips on?

Great videos, Shellynot, thanks for sharing. Here's my questions:

Does that blowdryer blow your hair around at all? Do you like that dryer? Would you buy another when it goes?
3a/medium texture/normal porosity
whimaway- i got my clips at target. it was $3 for 12 clips.

hmkenny- i like my blowdryer. i don't feel like it blows my hair around all that much. There is a low setting too, that definietly doesn't blow my hair around. I like it but i don't love it. It has its flaws. If i were on the same budget that i was when i bought it (and i am) i probably would just get a cheaper conair one that comes with a diffuser probably ($10 savings that way).

The Shellynot styling system ROCKS!!!!!! I followed the routine on your videos today.

Now i was skeptical because i usually spend a HUGE amount of time upside down (so much so that my dh is always telling me i am going to pass out) I usually scrunch my products in upside down, plop, diffuse upside down, i thought i needed to do that to get curl formation..... but I WAS WRONG! I didn't have the products you used but i mixed my CK and Mop-C and followed your routine and my curls came out great. Thanks!

btw - I ordered greg juice today

Great videos! Thanks.

Your hair looks amazing!!!
does anyone know if you can buy greg juice from anywhere other than online?
jojolove20 - What little research I did this morning leads me to conclude that the Oyin Greg Juice can only be purchased online at Curlmart or Oyinhandmade.com

They appear to be a small company that really does make their products by hand in small batches. After seeing shellynot's video, I took the plunge and placed a curlmart order. I figure for 9 bucks, and a few sprays a day on my hair, it ought to last me awhile.

I am sure somebody else will chime in if I am mistaken about buying the Greg Juice online only. I don't know where you live, but perhaps you could try beauty supply stores. Happy hunting
For some reason the clipping video isn't coming up - I just see a black screen. I really hope it's just my work comp. I SO want to see that clipping video!

And Shelleynot, your hair is gorgeous!

awesome videos!

just a quick question, does this method of clipping leave an indent/crimp when you take the clips out?
i also think greg juice is only available online, unfortunately.

ane-the clips don't really leave a kink, but then my hair rarely ever gets kinks from ponytails and such. Also, I take the clips out before the hair is completely dry so that i can arrange it the way i want before it is stuck like that for the rest of the day.

HTH!

Shellynot,

I'm having trouble with the video too, so I'll have to wait until I get into work (the most appropriate place for this kind of activity anyway), but here's another question/comment.

I love your cut - I have 3a hair too, just a little shorter than yours. It looks like your hair has been cut into layers, which is very flattering. Here's the question part - with 3a hair, assuming you have longer layers on the bottom and shorter on the top, do your longer layers ever feel "too thin"? They certainly don't look that way on you, but I wonder how they would be on me.

My hair gets to a point where I think I can't grow it anymore because the ends just seem to thin out. I fear layers would make this worse...or maybe the opposite - perhaps give the illusion of volume.

Anyhoo, thanks for listening to my ramblings, and anything you want to share about your cut would be appreciated!
3A - fine, just above shoulder length, w/red color and highlights.

Product: Suave Coconut leave in, Joico Joiwhip mousse, Angell or F/X Curl booster on wet hair. Sometimes rotate in ReCoil/CK.

Routine: Scrunch with cloth diapers, then use Shellynot's clipping method. Diffuse a bit without touching hair. Leave clips in at least half and hour. Remove clips and air dry.

Day 2: Pineapple, no product.

For those of you who are having trouble with the videos--if you click on the "Google Video" logo on the bottom right hand of the videos and click "go to google video" it should take you to the actual video and should work (hopefully). I'm using Mozilla Firefox as my browser, but when i tried it on Internet Explorer i did get a little bit of trouble with the videos.

kcurls-i definitely feel like the bottom layer is too thin, but thats just because i'm getting used to it still, i think. i've never had layers, so it feels really different, especially when i'm in the shower. When he was cutting it, i secretly feared that it would look like i had a mullet!! but it doesn't (well i don't think so at least..). Before the cut though, i told him that i felt like the ends were pretty poofy, and the layers completely fixed that. I hope that answers your question. If it doesn't, i'm sorry!!

thanks for answering my questions about the cut, and I did finally get the vid to work - it just takes a while to load on my computer.

I'm excited to try your clipping and diffusing method - the deva clip method never really worked for me, and pixicurl often leaves my hair with weird curl formations, plus takes too long.

I'll report back on my results.

Again, thanks so much.
