In case you never figured out clipping,

Shellynot, thanks to your awesome method, I have been able to pack up my flat iron once and for all! I have totally been struggling w/ my bangs, and would always just straighten them, even though I wasn't loving that look in the least. Now with this clipping method I have no more bang issues, they curl just right when clipped and blend in great w/ the rest of my hair!!

Shellynot i was able to watch the videos at a very slowww pace on my computer and the volume was in/out. can you tell me on this site where to clip the loops? I heard you say to push up on the hair but then i got lost! aghh.
Second question. I too ordered the Greg Juice and wanted to know do you spray it in to loosen the crunch or after your hair is completely dry?
last question..promise. I got a somewhat Deva cut in February as my layers are trying to grow out. What did you ask for when you went for your cut or what was suggested? I really like the length and your style you got so please do tell what your stylist did.
Your videos are helpful to all of us.

Greg Juice is very versatile which is one of the reasons i like it so much. I spray a couple on right after i blowdry and take the clips out, and sometimes i use it to scrunch out the crunch, too.

When I went to get my haircut, i took some pictures with me, which you can see in my fotki album "deva cut chronicles). I asked for layers, and i told him of my issues: that i wasn't getting any height on top and the ends would bunch and poof at the ends because it was all one length. I also told him i wanted long-ish side-swept bangs. I told him i wanted to keep the length and then from there he just knew what to do i guess!

HTH!

The clipping does make sense! I was pushing my hair up and cipping near the end to my scalp. duh! i will have to try it out tonight. only problem is my hair is becoming heavier as it grows and i can atest to the sides and ends being poofier than usual. At least i have the side swept bangs already but looks looks flat and horrific if i try to leave my hair down. I will have to make another Deva appt. Can i use your new Deva Cut pic to show my stylist?

I appreciate your response. Hopefully by the time i get my second cut i will have the clipping part down..and my greg juice!
Another rave for your videos! Can't wait to try this clipping method.

Some questions about product application: Did you scrunch out any water before you applied your products? It didn't seem like your hair was dripping but I wasn't sure. And do you do everything (rinse conditioner, etc.) right side up?
2c who can't seem to find enough moisture! Trying to figure this out once and for all 7 years after going CG!
Thank you so much for your videos. I loved the clip method. I recently had my hair cut off. It was as long as yours but now it is really short. I will still try the clip method. You are awesome!!!!

I also used to apply my products to soaking wet hair. But i like my new routine better, less blood rushing to my head, and i use less product on not-soaking-wet hair.

Shellynot,
How do i print a copy of your Deva cut from the Fotik? I'm still pretty new on the boards.
So you have pushed me that much closer to making the 2.5 hr drive to STL to see this Derek that is apparently a clipping genius. I did recently have my layers reshaped which has really done wonders for my degree of curl and shape (havent' posted new Fotki pics since, mental note to do so). Will have to try the loop clipping today. Cute blog

Shellynot,

Your clipping method works beautifully for me. Before, the only way I could get any volume was after pineappling, but now finally both volume and definition on day 1!

Here's my modified routine in case anyone else is interested.

I put product on wet hair (suave, Joiwhip, F/X) , then scrunch with diaper/towel, then clip a la Derek. I wait a few minutes, then diffuse top and sides for 5-10 minutes- I have a bowl diffuser but don't actually use the bowl. Then I leave the clips in my hair for awhile. "Awhile" is still something I am working out - at least half an hour, maybe as much as an hour. When I take the clips out, I have nice volume on top even though my hair still isn't completely dry. Sometimes one loop might be a little more loopy than the others - I just use water and pull it out to make it lie down.

I may experiment with root lifter and see if that will set the top faster so I could take the clips out sooner (and leave the house sooner). Also maybe diffusing longer will allow me to take out the clips sooner.

This diffusing without the bowl was also been a revelation. Using the bowl always separates my curl, even using the pixicurl method. Diffusing without touching keep things clumpy.

Yay.
3A - fine, just above shoulder length, w/red color and highlights.

Product: Suave Coconut leave in, Joico Joiwhip mousse, Angell or F/X Curl booster on wet hair. Sometimes rotate in ReCoil/CK.

Routine: Scrunch with cloth diapers, then use Shellynot's clipping method. Diffuse a bit without touching hair. Leave clips in at least half and hour. Remove clips and air dry.

Day 2: Pineapple, no product.

I use the bowl diffuser attachment, but don't touch my hair with it - the way you did in the vid. It doesn't blow my hair around at all, even on high. I suddenly like my hairdryer much more than I did before! (Revlon 1875 Tourmaline Ionic - despite the long name, it was cheap)

Watched your videos (esp clipping) last night.
Ahhhh, I get it now, makes much more sense than what was in the book (not the same thing at all).
My husband got a kick out of it, too.
Thanks for taking the time to post that info!
p.s. getting my first deva cut today!

Thanks for the good vibes - must have helped because my deva cut was very awesome. It was a wonderful experience, and I am glad, as I had been supremely nervous going into it!
Glad I took the plunge, totally worth every penny.
Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing! I loved your running commentary as much as the clipping tips. I bet everyone here can relate to falling in love with and holding grudges against products.
So THAT's how it's done! Thank you so much for offering these videos, very generous of you to take the time and effort to share--you probably just earned 1,000 days of good hair for your curly karma! I cannot wait to try out the clipping again.
