Dangit, I just hate my hair!!

I'm so sick of this.

So, I've been complaining that my hair is dry and damaged. I've moisturized it to death and guess what. It's soft.

It's also limp, and curlless, and ugly!

So, how do I get my crappy hair back? Can I sulfate the crap out of it? Wash it every day and not condition it? I have a wedding to go to on Saturday and I don't know what to do! I tried JCRR and CCSS today and I even over did the CCSS on purpose and my curls were still all flat and crappy half way through the day. Oh yeah, they're soft, but dangit! I'd rather have my "straw" hair back! At least it looked OK.-

huh. I'm stumped, but you might as well start typing up what products you use and your routine. That might help us try and figure out whats going on.
3a/b Thick, dry, in need of a haircut.
HG's: Giovannia Smooth as Silk Conditioner and Aura Hypoallergenic Gel.

Whee a fotki!http://public.fotki.com/Notinabottle/
Both hair pictures was the same process. Exactly.

1. Co-wash - White Rain
2. Condition - JC-Too Shea
3. twist up with a towel to remove lots of water (I know, no no no, but it worked that other day so I tried again today)
4. small blop Giovanni direct leave-in
5. 3 quarters JCRR
6. 2 quarter blops CCSS
7. plop 15 (or so) minutes
8. air dry

"and that's it" (for jillipoo)
I just shampooed (sls-free) and did a vinegar rinse. I'm holding my breath and crossing my fingers.
My hair had been doing the same crap this week... I did an ACV and it helped tremendously.
Currently, using JC HCC, Too Shea, CK and CCSS, RR or LOOB or MOP-C.
CK is the one!!

as of 6/17/10 - I have to add Joico!

I'm betting that the ACV rinse cured you but in case it didn't, here are some other possible things to look at:

Does the White Rain have stearylkonium chloride in it, by any chance? If so, that might be causing the abundance of softness.

Try using something other than Too Shea -- it might be weighing you down.

Same with Giovanni -- does it have stearylkonium chloride in it? The bottle I once considered buying contained that ingredient, so I put it back on the shelf in the store. Can't remember exactly which product it was, though. Smooth as Silk? Can't recall....

I can't speak to the towel methods you're using because I have limited experience with plopping and such. I just scrunch with a Curl-Ease. That's all I know how to do.

Anyway, keep us posted on how the ACV went! (I love your hair!)

Yup, sounds overconditioned to me. Had this happen a while ago myself. I used a sulfate and it bounced right back. ACV works, too.

Now? I don't know that I could get there. Talk about dry! I think it's the change in seasons. Are you in a humid area? Maybe what was working during the winter months has given way to too much in humidity.

Keep us posted!

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

Thanks Jilli I will look at that stuff. I'm fresh out of the shower now so I'll report back in a few hours when my hair has dried lol.

Sunshine, I live in Arkansas so yes it's pretty humid, but I'm still a newbie so I don't think the humidity has really changed much.

curlinicator, Thank you.

I have to say I think your hair is gorgeous, too!

I also noticed my hair got soft and lost a lot of curl when I was using JC. But it took months before it happened. I don't know if that's your issue, but I used JC exclusively for 3-4 months and then all of the sudden started having trouble getting my hair to hold any curl. It felt awesome and soft to the touch, but wouldn't curl anymore. That's what brought me here looking for answers, but now I'm more confused than ever.

All that said, ACV rinse has helped me immensely in the past - and did seem to get some bounce back with the JC. I just kept having the same issue return.

Okay, Kitara...your emoticons officially crack me up! Especially the overreacting one. I am notorious for overreacting. I think I might have to put that one in my sig for work!

If I'm Going To Have A Bad Hair Day, It Might As Well Be In Aruba!

When I first tried Too Shea it left me puffball. I was unable to get any formation in my hair and just puff.....maybe it is too moisturizing for your hair? When I emailed Jess back then she said it was too much moisture for my hair.
3a/b medium/coarse but mostly moderately coarse, dense, strong strands
Komaza analysis current: medium to thick/ strands(mostly coarse), very strong elasticity, low porosity(some is), healthy strong hair
Goosefootprints: moderately coarse with some medium; low porosity at roots, normal thru shaft, porous ends.
LCLF:medium,normal,normal
First of all, I apologize because I didn't really mean that was crappy hair. I was just being sarcastic because it's the same picture I posted a while ago looking for suggestions on how to make my hair softer. It looked good, but felt like straw.

It's one of those things where you look back and think, "WHY was I complaining?"

Ok, here's the update. Riot Crrl is my official curly hero. I saw a post by her yesterday that mentioned the ACV rinse and mentioned overdoing AOHR. Just goes to happen that I have been using that a lot lately. I immediately ran to the bathroom with my vinegar and water and did it last night.

This is what my hair looks like today.

So what was the lesson learned this time? There IS a such thing as too much conditioner and hair that is too soft.
