curl definition perfect but no volume

Hi Everyone!

I have been getting perfect curl definition when I allow my hair to air dry, the only problem is, is that I get no volume if it dries this way. My hair is flat and I need some kind of volume, not a lot but some....I know I am not supposed to touch my hair till it is dry, so are there any suggestions as to what I can do for some volume?

TIA!
Shellynot has done some awesome videos about taking care of her new Devacut, including showing how to do "clipping" to add volume to your hair. They're on her blog. I read half a dozen descriptions on how to do this and it made no sense to me. Shellynot's video, it's the second one, made it perfectly clear, and she got great results increasing her volume!
You're facing the classic problem: great definition vs. body. If it's any consolation, you are not alone.

What products are you using and how are you drying your hair?
3a and strictly CG since August 2007. Porous and on the fine side. No to magnesium sulfate and glycerin. Yes to protein! Favorites:
CO-WASHES: Suave Coconut
CONDITIONERS and LEAVE-INS: Mop Top Daily Conditioner, KBB Nectar, Aubrey GPB or Island Naturals, Robert Craig, Any Jessicurl
CURL ENHANCERS/CREMES/MOUSSES: KCCC, JoiWhip
GELS: Fuzzy Duck, B5 Design, MGA Scultping, BRHG

I am using Giovanni 50/50 conditioner and then suave Tropical Coconut as a leave in. Then I use LOOB and then FX Curl Booster Gel. Sometimes I use Re:Coil but either way, whether I use that or not, it just seems to look the same with or without.

The way I do my hair is: I put the Suave in while I am still in the shower sopping wet. Then I get out of the shower put all the products in my hair and then plop with the towel and then let air dry. If I use a diffuser, I dry immediately after applying products (I rake products through my hair), and then I dry my hair upside down. It just makes things icky. I have tried right side up, pixiecurl method, etc.

It is such a dilemma....ggrrr! I read on one of the postings by another reader on another post that she lets her hair air dry and then flips her head upside down and kind of shakes her hair to let it get volume. I have tried that too and it was just...a mess.

Anyway, thanks for posting!

Thank you!

After I scrunch, I have to do a bit of careful, shaking and strategic fluffing, and even then, I have to remember to do it throughout the day because my hair tends to get flat.

You might try either skipping the leave in or the LOOB -- you may not need both. And the Re:coil weighs quite a lot of people down, no matter how little they use. Sounds like you might be using more products than your hair needs...

Wouldn't that be awesome if I was able to just use one or two products at most? Woohoo, think of the money I would save! Thank you for your advice!
Yes, it would be totally awesome! I keep saying I'm shooting for that myself and yet my product shelf grows every week. How does that keep happening??
