POLL: HOW MUCH LEAVE-IN?

Generally speaking, what is the quantity of leave-in that you use?

It might also help to let me know how dry your hair generally tends to be, and if you shampoo or not, etc.

I'm just trying to get a good idea of what works for people.

TIA!

About half a cup to a cup depending - A LOT, basically. I have a lot of hair, it's long, it's coarse and porous and it's transitioning from chemicals so dryness is a concern. I do shampoo - every one to two weeks with a mild sulfate - and then I don't wet my hair in between, so the leave-in has to last me that long. HTH!

Thanks Amneris ... Yes, I guess length would be a good consideration as well!

I use around 1-2 quarter sized dab. Yeah, so I voted dab because it seems I use less than most others on the board. My hair gets weighed down easily.

I said a glob. I tend to use maybe 3 quarter sized amounts. My hair is on the dry side & I do have some damage still from highlights.

I consider my spritz a leave in. I was using John Frieda Dream curls and ran out so now using V05 Shine leave in conditioner. And I just order Set It Free from Deva Curl.

p.s. I'm a total PJ!!! :oops:

Just a pea to a dime- size amount. Any more of any brand would completely weigh my fine hair down.

what she said.

Maybe about two nickle sized amounts on completely wet hair. My hair is to where I can almost sit on it, not very thick, and not very dry.

I was experimenting with One Condition about a week ago and found myself using one or two golf balls of it as leave-in. When I use Elucence as leave-in, I only seem to need a walnut sized glob or less.

I wash my hair about every other day. If I went a week between washings, I'd probably be using as much as Amneris. The main reason I wash my hair as often as I do is to keep a steady supply of conditioner going into it. This week, I've actually needed to wash it every day because our weather's so dry. Sounds counterintuitive but I really think Traite is helping keep my scalp from drying out in very windy, dry weather.

I use a little more than a dab...my hair isn't overly dry. i don't use a lot of leave-in b/c i find when i use too much, it doesn't mix well w/ my gel layered overtop and i get flaking.

Really great question! But I think it's all relative, depending on:
* hair length
* presence or absence of chemical treatments to hair (coloring, highlighting, relaxing, etc)
* use of heat styling
* the performance of regular shampoo and/or conditioner
* the performance of other styling products that may precede or follow the application of the leave-in
* how "heavy" the leave-in itself is on your hair
* any other "damage" to hair that we might be trying to help hide or "repair" with the leave-in.

As someone with color-processed hair (for lotsa years), my hair tends to be drier, so I use what I think is a "ton" of leave-in conditioner (about 3-4 quarter-sized globs of it). Even though I'm just around shoulder-length, I use more than a lot of people with much longer hair than mine. I know we all just do what works best for our hair, but that is always funny to me -- how much leave-in I use compared to really long-haired curlies (like Rain, for example).

My head itches me to death if I leave in a bunch of conditioner.... :oops:

CurlyMom73 10-06-2005 08:14 AM

I usually use what I would class as a glob...ranging anywhere from a quarter size to a tablespoons worth.

The amount I leave in usually depends on what the weather is like and how dry my hair is.

I rub it between my hands and scrunch it in from the bottom up. Then I smooth my hands gently over my hair like putting it in a pony tail.

I apply to my ends first cuz it seems like my ends get drier and drier as the day goes by.

I would class myself as a dry boticelli. HTH

I use a TON! A couple of palms-full. Maybe that's about a half-cup? My hair is past my shoulders, there is lots of it, it's naturally very frizzy. Also, frequently I use the conditioner as my styler and do not add any gel or anything, so I like to have a lot in there so I get a little hold. I either use NoPoo, water-rinse, or Creme of Nature every other day, sometimes more often, sometimes less. I'll use a coco-betaine shampoo ocassionally too when I feel I need it (not more than once a week, not less than every other month). Vague, I know, but taking care of my hair is an intuitive thing! :D

I agree, and just voted. Fun poll! I heart leave-ins.. :D

My hair is a little past my shoulders when wet, coarse and of medium or average thickness. I have a great, regular rinse-out conditoning routine, so my hair stays moisturized and I use a light hand with my leave-ins.

Knotty 10-08-2005 06:27 PM

I don't use near enough. I have tons and tons of hair but I hate the feeling of anything on my hair so I put like a dab. Then my mom sees me and says my hair is dry did I put anything on it.
