Are you CG? Does it matter if it has silicones in them?
I'm finding that curl creams work really well...over a leave-in conditioner. Try to get one that doesn't have glycerine in it, since you mentioned having humid weather.
Some leave-ins worth considering:
CG: Kiehl's leave-in
Modified CG: Regis Olive Oil leave-in
Non-CG, but only has amodimethicone: Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine; Redken Fresh Curls Refining curls leave-in.
Curl creams:
CG: Biotera curl cream (Sally's); MOP-C curl cream (Ulta)
Non-CG: (lots of cones): Beyond the Zone Noodle Head curl cream (Sally's). Also, the above Redken Fresh Curls leave-in doubles as a curl cream (so don't need two products).
Mousse and gel doesn't work for me. I don't have as long of hair as you, but I do have frizzy curly hair and have found that using leave-in and curl creams help to reduce frizz significantly and when you scrunch out the crunch it usually leaves with soft curls.

I am a sulfate washing, cone slabbing, curly lovin' s.o.b. The CG police haven't caught me yet.
