Who'd you inherit from?

I was washing my daughter's hair last night and thinking about how she inherited her hair texture from my husband (thick, slight wave and GORGEOUS)and my younger one somehow managed to get much different hair (thin, slight wave, but lots of it). I inherited my hair texture from my father's side (which is kind of a joke because my father has no hair) whom he inherited from his mother. So who did you inherit your texture from?

I don't know about my texture but I got my curls from my maternal grandfather. He had curls and all of his sons (my uncles) have curls and a few of my boy cousins have curls too. My mom has a little bit of curl and my youngest girl cousin (she's a year old) has curls like mine...but otherwise I'm the only girl who got the curly hair.

Funny that most of the curls went to the boys...but I kinda like that I got my hair from my grandpa because he died before I was born but I still have something from him. My grandma would tell me sometimes that she liked my hair because it was like his.
My dad for sure although my mom has pretty coarse hair as well, just less curl. My dad has kinky dark hair and is so dark you'd swear I came from a mixed family. But we have no idea where it came from especially here in Maine since my state is practically so white you need sunglasses. But all his brothers share coloring and hair type while the girls are light (with very curly hair as well).

My half-sister (the only one of my siblings who shares genetic material with me) inherited her mom's hair. Thin, straight, and light. Of course she got the nice skin coloring but I'd rather be pale and curly than have gotten the family forehead!
My paternal grandmother (who was from Ireland) had gorgeous auburn curls! My dad and his siblings all got some degree of wave/curl from her, but my dad's hair is quite THICK! Out of all the grandchildren, I'm the ONLY one who got curls, but I'm also the only one WITHOUT thick hair.

I got my sparse scalp population and thin hair strands from my mother's side of the family... all of which have bone straight hair.

I have two sons, the oldest has light brown stick straight 'normal' hair. Not thin, not thick... just average.
My youngest son has my grandmother's gorgeous auburn hair and it's so thick they have to scissor cut it, it bogs down clippers... but if we let it grow out any, it gets quite wavy. He had the prettiest copper ringlets when he was a toddler, I just couldn't bear to cut them off and everyone called him a girl. I finally cut them off when he was about 2... I cried. LOL

Dad has thin fine wispy curls. Mom has thin coarse spiral curls. My hair falls in between the two. Thin coarse and medium curly lol. The only bummer is that both of their families have super thick hair and all I want is.... super thick hair LOL but alas, I should be greatful to have hair at all

There are lots of curls on my dad's side. A high school picture of him from the 60s shows a bright red 'fro, and my paternal grandmother had beautiful dark curls. My mom has thin, fine hair with only a very slight wave. I am the curliest of my brother (he is barely wavy) and sister, but my sister's hair is actually more like most relatives on my dad's side--it makes beautiful wavy curls that are thick, and her hair is coarser than mine.

I was doing some research on curly genetics recently (my sister is married to a curly and expecting in November) and read somewhere recently that curly hair is an incomplete dominant, which means that someone with truly curly hair is a (CC), while someone with truly straight hair is (ss). If they have kids, they will all be (Cs), which is a wavy; however if two wavies have a kid, that kid could be curly (CC - one from each parent), straight (ss), or wavy (getting the C from one parent and the s from the other to make a Cs) depending on what was passed by each parent.

Of course, like most genetics explanations, this is WAY oversimplified, and there are so many different degrees of wavy and curly, who knows where Cs stops and CC begins...

Seriously, I'm like a freak of nature in my family. Nobody (on either my mother's or father's side) has curly hair. Unless they get it permed, of course. Sometimes I wonder if it's not some gene that everybody else has dormant and in me it's active. My family are all mutts, and I have a little bit of everything in me - even minuscule amounts Native American and African American. (That comes from my mother's side.) I have absolutely no idea how I got the curly hair, but I've got it.

And my 11-year old got it from me. Sometimes I feel bad for her, especially when she's getting ready for school in the morning and she suddenly screams "I hate my hair!"

The thickness...definitely my mom's side.

Coarseness...definitely from my mom.

Filipinos just have very very thick and coarse hair all the time!

I think I do have some thinner hair on my head though, and that would be from my dad.

My curls though...that's a toughie. My dad's hair is wavy when it's long. I only know that because I found an old passport picture of him once. He looked like a homeless guy!

My mom's hair is straight. However, she is the only one out of all of her siblings with straight her. All of her brothers and sisters have very poofy frizzy hair, just like mine.

So even though my mom's hair is straight, I'm pretty sure my curls are from her side.

My poor brother ended up w/that super curly, coarse hair that you can't do a thing with. I ended up w/curly, fine, thick hair that hasn't started thinning yet (say a prayer for me!).

So, curls from mom, thickness from dad. A public thank you to both my parents.

I forgot to add....my mom...pin straight hair! She always told my sisters and I to love our hair because she's been perming for years trying to get what we have! It's weird the curliness kinda diminished as each of us were born (I'm the youngest of three). My oldest sister has very curly almost kinky curls, my middle sister has the "perfect" curls that I always envied. Her hair has these perfect shiny frizz-free spirals that seemed effortless to maintain and when she cut her hair short I almost killed her! Of course myself...waves to almost curls and frizz city!

I guess I get it from both sides of my family. My dad was bald from the time he was in his early 20's but his todler pictures show him with hair identical to mine at that age. My mom has straightened her hair her whole life (though I'm trying to convert her ), but if she lets it airdry then she's got some waves. One of her sisters has 3c-4a hair that she's never learned how to manage. Its just always frizzy and pulled back in a bun. And my cousin on my mom's side has the most beautiful curly hair ever (she's my hair idol and the one that introduced me to CG).

I hafta say a little from both cause my dad always had thick wavy hair(coarse!) which is what my brother got flat out! And my Mom has very curly thick hair. So I have curly thick hair, but it's not as coarse as my brother's, his is wool-like.

my dad's hair is jet black (a few grays), mom's is brown, thick

my sister's hair is brown and a softer texture than mine

I also have silver ones with dark roots - don't know who I get those from!

My family (bless 'em) have said for years that I'm a genetic freak as there's no-one else in the family with curly hair, but I recently found out that an uncle on my fathers side had curly hair. I'm trying to get my head round tjis as he's chinese and I have never seen a curly-haired chinese person - yet.

My daughter has a slight wave if she lets it grow, but is currently wearing a Victoria Beckham bob (she has the face, cheekbones and size 0 figure to go with it). That's curious as both her father and I are curly so why isn't she as well??

My mum has very thick dry frizzy hair, that would be curly if it was long (she's always had it short, saying it grows outwards, not downwards! ) Her mother had hair like mine - blonde (ish), fine and curly/frizzy.

I have some old piccies from my family tree, but don't know if I can post them on here, being a newbie!

Both my parents had stick straight brown hair. Mine is brown, thin, fine, and very , very curly. Everyone else in my family has brown, thick, curly, and coarse hair.

I am not sure were my texture comes from to be honest..

My dad is full german, and has copper red 3c curls, while on my mothers side my great-great grandmother is African American, and there is tons of curls on that side....genetics are funny, cuz I would sure have been happy to get either sides tight curls
2c/3a Fine Blonde/Silver
I got it from both, they both have curls, as do all of us kids! I think it is more similar to my dad's in coarseness but my maternal grandmother had the same, so either side.
2c or 3a Cut most of my hair off in July '12 and am working on regrowing it.
