Default straight hair is knottier

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=...ly-hair&sc=rss

i just saw this artical and it says that straight hair tangles more readily than curly hair. I am surprised, because I would have thought it was the other way around.

I have 3a/3b hair and in my lifetime I have had knots in my hair that were as big as baseball, no lie, and as small as a golf ball and I know that it was because of the curls tangling into each other. I too refuse to believe that a straight haired person has more knots than me.

You know how most of us have to get our hair wet before we can detangle it? I know a lot of people w/naturally straight hair that mats on contact with water. But I think the article above is based on the same study where the scientists were using hair stylists to count the tangles. So not terribly scientific.

I've read this before and dismissed it as poppycock!
When I straighten I rarely get knots. But when curly, always knotty. How could it not be? It twirls itself in and out? That is bound to create MORE knots than straight hair!
