Post your before & After CG pics

It has been about a year and although I noticed a difference after only a few weeks I finally feel that it is looking good enough for a before and after. My hair LOVES the CG method!

Before (this was in 2005 but the best picture showing the friz and undefined curl problem!):

This is from last May. My curls kinda gave up on life for no apparent reason.

Went CG in September of 2008, and this is what I've got now about 6 months later.

3A/2C
Mod-CG since 9/15/08
Lo-Poo: Whispering Windz Farm jar soap
Co-Wash/LI: Suave Tangerine
Rinse-out: EO Rose & Chamomile or Giovanni 50:50
Stylers: Pink Boots & Bioterra Gel
i think the only reason i cant stick with CG is impatience. gosh, some of these results took 6 whole months, lol. nice results still.
supposedly 2c/3a.
very thick, almost waistlength hair when straight, but around midback length when curly.
just a girl trying to figure her hair out /: lol.

turned CG- 2/17/09
wish me luck

2/27/09- taking a break from CG ... doing mod CG for a little to see the effects on my hair, so that i can compare and expiriment and see what my hair likes and doesnt like

i havent found a good routine yet or any HG products.
Everyone's hair is fabulous! You are all such inspirations. This thread is what made me learn about CG and decide to go for it!

I clarified my hair today, did a DT and then my first co-wash. My hair has a long way to go before it's healthy after so many years of abuse, and it needs to grow out a good deal to get rid of the layers I've been maintaining for blowing my hair straight, but I was so excited about how it looked after just my first co-wash that I made my husband take pictures so I could show you (he thinks I'm silly for the pictures and maybe a little crazy lol).

First, some before pictures:

This one was last April with an insane amount of gel in my hair. You can see the frizz trying to escape after only about 3 hours.

This one was taken last August. This is what I considered my Best Hairday ever until I found this site:

This was taken last month at my son's 3rd birthday party and is what my hair looks like almost every day:

OK, enough of those.

Here is my hair today after my first co-wash:

The lighting was bad in this one. My hair really isn't this red:

This is my actual color (after covering the 80-90% gray I have):

Here are a couple I took myself. You can see the layers that have to grow out.

I clarified with Pantene Clarifying Shampoo, used a cholesterol treatment as a DT, co-washed with VO5 Moisture Milks Passion Fruit Smoothie, used Suave Naturals Aloe and Waterlily as a rinse out and leave in and put some LA Looks gel in. I have Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, L'Oreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Wavy/Curly, B5 Design Gel, and Kinky Curly Curling Cream on order but I didn't want to wait for everything to get here so ran to the drugstore and used what I could find. ;D

I just started going CG like three weeks ago and I guess I'm going through the stage where my hair is looking worse.

I think your after hair is cute! I like the hair's overall shape. The volume is really funky and cool. I'm always trying to get my hair to get more voluminous like that.
These pics are amazing!! OK...you all have inspired me!! I am off the stuff (straightening, heavy cones, etc...) for life...er, for long enough to give CG an honest try.

I've made two attempts with CG but my first one was not full-bore and my second one, I didn't go long enough to give it a really good shot (I loathed the way my hair looked but I know I should have stuck it out).

But your results have moved me, amazed me, and forced me to go to CVS for CG-friendly products. I always transition from straight to curly as summer approaches since there is no point straightening my hair in our summer weather of 99 degrees and 300% humidity. SO what the heck I may as well go all-out CG and see if this time I can make it work.

HERE is my big problem with CG. It's not the no shampooing or co-washing, I actually did that anyway before finding CG. It's the dang routines. I am not into buying six million products; I like using one or two. I don't want to constantly experiment with scrunching, raking, styling, plopping, pineappling...it frakking exhausts me just to read it. I get pretty good results right now with silicone serum and gel and a policy of touching my hair as little as possible. I don't want to get sucked into an eternal whirlpool of trying every product and eight thousand different routines. PLEASE. Keep it Simple is my life motto.

Anyway. If it requires too many gyrations I will have to give up.

I'll see if I can post a pic of my pre-CG curly hair but I dont' have many becuz if I know I'm going to get my picture taken I always straighten it.
Modified CG. You'll pry my 'cones from my cold dead fingers! Mixed waves, coarse, below shoulder length, dark brown. I hate my hair but I'm trying to learn to accept it.

Gels: LA Looks Wet Look Styling Gel, Garnier Fructis Wet Shine Gel. Condish: Alberto V05 Free Me Fresia, Tresemme' Flawless Curls, LVPNG, Neutrogena Triple Moisture. Shampoo: Tresemme' Flawless Curls. Silicone Serum: Whatever is on sale, but I don't leave home without it.
I think it's pretty safe to say that it's not CG that 'requires' the multitude of products and the infinite number of routine tweaks. It's everyone's own inner perfectionist that drives us with those things :P

CG can be as simple as you want it. It's just finding what works for you and makes you happy with everything (your hair, the time it takes, the money involved, etc).
CG/Mod CG (soap bars) since 8/12/08
CO wash/Cond: Kathymack & Flowermoon Castille soap bars, V05 Chamomile Tea, Suave Ocean Breeze, Biolage Conditioning Balm
Styling loves: DIFFUSING! CK, KCNT, KCCC, FOTE (on dry hair only), Re:coil, Proclaim gel
Not sure about: Boots, Tweek, KBB Milk, DMHJ
HATE: plopping, FOTE on wet hair, BRHG
I switched to CG about a week ago -- and my transformation is already almost unbelievable:

Before (about two weeks ago -- this one is while I was in Disney World, so it was a little humid)

(and this one is right before we left -- not humid in NY)

And here's after -- 6 days after my last sulfate wash (I took these about five minutes ago):

Did I mention it's raining right now?! And my window is open.

Little bump! because I think this is an important thread for people who are thinking about CG

@ ccja, mimsTX, and curlykmf -- thank you so much! You don't know how wonderful it is to hear such nice things from people who have beautiful hair themselves! Also, I think the camera flash had a lot to do with how shiny my hair looks!

mimsTX, I hope your co-worker starts CG -- I've been trying to convince my curly friends. I think the no shampoo part scares them, but I always bring up this thread because I think seeing the before and after pictures is soooo convincing. I was on the fence until I saw Laura Lee's blog post with the before and after pictures.

For a few years I had fairly nice curls, and then my favorite silicone product (Tigi Curls Rock) stopped working and I got a straight, bobbed cut. I flatironed my hair for eight months and when I began trying to wear it curly again (the straight look was too hard to maintain and I missed my curls ) it just wouldn't curl anymore. I was afraid that my curl would only come back if my hair grew all the way out, or that it would never curl again. But now after starting CG, my hair is nicer than ever before! I'm so grateful to all the other curlies on NC!!

Hair type: Fine, fairly porous, shoulder length when curly. Probably a 3a or 3b with tight ringlets now that it's getting longer. Hair loves aloe, hates glycerin.

Co-Wash: Suave Naturals Aloe and Waterlily (my HG conditioner!)
Rinse Out: Garnier Sleek and Shine, Trevor Sorbie curl conditioner (UK only, unfortunately)
Stylers: KCCC, AG Re:coil, TIGI mousse, but open to suggestions!
Gels: BRHG (my one and only)

CG since 03/28/09
Frankly, I'm a bit gutted that my hair didn't do anything really radical when I started CG...
However I think it looks healthier, although it's not gone much curlier - hardly any split ends, feels less dry overall, and that's despite not having had a haircut for almost a year.

Pre/early CG:

Now, about 6-7 months in:

Curling it in Scotland the modCG way since September 2008.
Long suffering wavy - 2a/b.

Low-poo:
  • Naked Rescue or Care
Conditioners:
  • Original Source (any variety)
  • Naked Care and Naked Rescue DT
  • ASDA Essential Care Mango&Passionfruit or Coconut&Tiare
Stylers:
  • Boots Essentials Curl Creme
  • Boots Essentials Strong Hold Gel (purple)
I can see way more curls in the second picture, very nice ones as well!
2c? 3a? Mostly coarse, but LOVIN' the proteins and fighting overconditioning! My hair is just plain weird

LowPOO; Creme of Nature shampoo
CO; L'Oreal Nutrigloss & AOGBP
Other; nettle tea once a week instead of CO, JCRR, JCAS
Stylers; KCCC, L'oreal studio line gel
Don't like; PVP, non-vegetable glycerine
