Curly AND shiny!!! Love it! Congrats!

I see you checked out my fotki, most of my methods/products are there. My basic routine is cowash with VO5 Tea Therapy in Chamamoile (or Suave Coconut or Suave Orange), and condition with Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition (comb thru in shower w/ wide toothed comb, then rinse out upside down). I use the VO5 (or Suave) as a leave-in along with some TIGI Foxy Curls and Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Mousse. I always rake product in upside down and soaking wet, then comb with a fine-toothed comb. (Basically my head stays upside down from the time I rinse out the GFTN until it's gets plopped.) To dry I plop for 5 minutes, and scrunch curls into place with a t-shirt. I then alternate between pixiecurl difusse and airdry until done, and scrunch out any crunch from the products.

Thank you soooooooo much! You saw the before, right? That's how it has always looked unless it was blown stick straight (which never lasted long). Like a big fuzzy nasty rat's nest. I really had no idea my hair could look like it does. I didn't think it would ever be smooth, or much less clump! It's exciting to actually like my hair!

So here is my before and after CG pics. The before is my first day of CG, I was filled with heat and color damage. The second is almost five months later....

I can't find a before picture but here is an after. That's not one of my best hair days but it's very very nice comparing to my before CG hair days.

Is it normal that your scalp is sometimes itchy and has a bit of a burning feeling?
Cuz this is my first week going CG and my scalp feels like its on fireee.

You might have product buildup of oils or waxes, this can cause an itchy scalp for many people. Some people will use a low-poo or CJ Daily Fix or a clarifying treatment like ACV rinse or baking soda t o get rid of this build-up. The itching usually goes away then.

If that doesn't work, and you still have itching / burning, you may have a sensitivity to an ingredient in one of your products and will have to remove that product from your routine. I had to do that, my scalp was sensitive to the Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut conditioner. Once I removed it from my routine, the crazy itching stopped.

Did you do a final sulfate shampoo before starting? What products are you using? You might have a hidden cone in there that's not coming out with the cowashing.

Default my before & afters!

I am still very new to wearing my hair naturally, but it's exciting! All these new techniques & terms are confusing but very fun to play around with and try. I'm still trying to perfect the proper way to plop and I just used the diffuser correctly for the first time last night.

I used to wear my hair straightened by my flat iron all the time. This is how it looked while ironed, and I was still using sulfates & cones. I really like the blunt bang look & I may still straighten it every once in a while for some drama:

This is my hair when I air dried it and was still using sulfates & cones:

And this was my first attempt at diffusing & wearing my real natural curls in public. They're bad pics but they're all I have. No sulfates or cones. I still can't figure out what type my hair is, either (other than dry & frizzy):

I was just excited to see curls that I haven't had since I was probably 12 years old! If anyone has any idea what curl type I am, I'm all ears. I thought I was a 2b but now I'm not so sure.

You might look into doing a baking soda cleanse followed by an ACV rinse and deep conditioning. Alternately, you could try a brown sugar scrub. Are you massaging your scalp when you wash? Also, you might look into a conditioner with tea tree oil (like Giovanni Triple Treat) in case there's a bacterial reason for the itching and burning sensations.

It looks great all the ways, but I like the softness of your second picture. I'd wager you are a 2C or higher, probably a 3A or 3B?

Thanks plunkybug! I like the 2nd pic best too, especially since it was before I highlighted my hair & they over processed it. Now it's frizzy

You're quite welcome. The colour suits you, and the cut frames your face. That picture is kinda seductive and sultry IMO.

Just curious ... how many of you use rollers or twirl your curls around your fingers? Everyone has such pretty ringlets in their pics. I've noticed some natural ringlets coming back after a week of CG after just scrunching in product. But do I need to roll or twirl every day?
