I cannot even begin to express how excited I am to have discovered this site. It has been so amazing going through and learning the actual science behind my hair and the way it reacts to various elements. Thank you so much! I started CG this morning with a sulfate shampoo (for the last time), a protein treatment (jojoba oil with keratin), and gel (LA Looks). I am so happy. I normally don't want to rush time, it passes too quickly anyway, but I can't wait to see my hair in 6 months!!!!

Both pictures were taken at the end of the day. Of course, Saturday I was cleaning so I am a bit more frizzed than usual but it doesn't change the fact that today after a long day I still like my hair!!!!!

Italiangermanmix and curlylicious, thank you for the complements!

I live in Australia, so I was unable to find pretty much any of the products I've read about on the threads, but I went to a store (priceline) and spent a whole lot of time choosing products, reading the ingredients list and asking for assistance. I ended up choosing a protein conditioner called 'Sukin'- which clearly states on the packaging that it's free of sulphates and a whole lot of other things. And as a leave-in I used the 'Al'chemy' brand. However, both of these products are apparently Australian made, so I'm unsure if you'd be able to find them overseas. I basically just chose products based on the ingredient list, trying to avoid the -cone, -conol, and -xane.

Thank you again!

Italiangermanmix, I have a hairdresser in mind for my next cut, but my last one was just a regular wet cut-that was before I decided to go CG.

I'll definitely get a curly cut next time but I'm trying to grow my hair longer so am reluctant to cut it in the near future.
before(sorry its so big)
After! not my best hair day but i havent exactly been taking pictures lately

doing the CG method has been one of the best decisions i've ever made. my hair is healthier (and curlier) than ever! (please excuse the creepy circles covering my face )
CG since July 19 2010 + still going
Type - 2c/3a - getting curlier! prone to frizz, but less because of CG.
Here's me with my hair permanently straightened + blow dried + straightened with a straightener. Talk about overkill!!!

When I was growing my hair out I was using protein treatments instead of conditioner. That's how damaged my hair was.

I finally had a hair day worth taking pictures of today. Yay!

Now I need to work out how to get clumps. The journey continues!
Hair Type: Fine, 3a
Cond/LI: MOP Mixed Greens
Styler: IGA Gel
Oil: Coconut
Overall: Just likes a bit of TLC

Hey everyone

Well it's been a long battle with my curly hair. Ever since puberty hit my 2b (I think) curls decided to turn into 3b curls. Because it was just a dramatic change I never knew how to control it so I wore my hair up most of my school years. I'd put so much gel to keep it slicked back my hair felt like a rock *shudders*

Anyway, during my long curl battle journey I finally had my hair relaxed when i was a senior in high school. I just could not believe how smooth that made my hair! Quite shocking as I could never get it straight before. So I was pretty happy for a while, but straightening is so time consuming and I was always terrified of sweating because I didn't want to ruin it. But alas..I live on the surface of the sun (Arizona.)

Anyway, here are a few pics of that journey! I actually don't remember the last time I had my hair relaxed...but it might possibly be since Nov/Dec of 2009.

Here I am with my big ol curls as a baby..(click to make larger )

And then...Bam! 3b curls!

Then I had a relaxer put in (I just love red hair! I miss it!)

And present:

I believe my curls are still going to get tighter as time goes on as I continue with the CG method (modified however). I'm kinda considering getting an inverted bob (but not too short) but I'm a bit afraid lol. I'll make up my mind eventually.

OH. MY. GOSH!!! You're guys's hair is so beautiful!! I need to know how to do this!!!
This is the thread that made me want to go CG. I am so glad I made this decision! I am just over 1 month in and my curls are much more defined and less frizzy. I had straightened my hair ever since I figured out how to do it back in my early teens.

The first pic is my straight hair. This was how it was just about every day for probably 15 years. It was many, many different colors in those 15 years though!

The second pic is my first day without the straightening iron. I still use a blow dryer to diffuse because it just takes too long for my hair to air dry. I went CG probably about 2 weeks after this second pic.

The last 2 pics are me about a week ago, probably 1 month post CG. I think it is funny that I am wearing the same shirt (work attire!) and that my dog is laying in the same place on the bed. She has a routine and is always there while I am getting ready! I really love that I do not have to sweat styling my hair in this 100+ degree weather anymore! I have decided to stop coloring because I can tell that it has definitely affected my curl pattern. I have some highlighted pieces that are almost straight :/

Pretty, nicmandel! Just look at those whirly, wavy spirals! And what a super-looking dog too. Such a different look with straight hair vs. what wants to grow there!

ooo, this is a fun game!

Looking through this thread and then looking back through my pictures of the last few years, I realized that I probably dealt with my curly haired trauma by cutting my hair reeeeallly short and keeping it that way for so long!
On the upside, you can cover up frizz pretty well and its not so hard to straighten. But I'm glad that my growing out and my CG liberation coincided. Maybe its not coincidence?

The first two are pre CG. The third is with modified CG (using mostly deva products with the occasional sulfate shampoo), the last two are from just a few days ago - about two months into full on CG.

so much fun!

2c/3a, fine-medium texture, low porosity
Currently in love with protein, but proceeding with caution
Experimenting with re:coil, KCCC and KCKT, love AO GPB, and conspicuously consuming enough new stuff to qualify as a CJ in training

CG since 6/1/11, pseudo-CG since 10/2010

I'll put almost anything in my hair once . . .much to my girlfriend's dismay!
