Before:
1/4 inch of split ends every 2 months, rough feeling hair, very dull, s-shaped waves only. If there wasn't a cute baby in this picture, an accurate photo of my before hair would not exist.

One month in:

Almost 2 years in: Second day hair

I haven't cut split ends of the length in about 8 months (hmmm. should probably at least dust the ends) I have some shine, some C-turns and a few hidden spirals, and my hair feels soft and lovely in a way I never knew was possible.

Way to go wavy! Such silky swirls you have coaxed out of your hair! A little (non) artistic interpretation of your "new" hair:

I've been CG for about 3 months and before I went CG I would straighten my hair endlessly!

And here is a photo of it on one of my too lazy to straighten days

As you can see I would still straighten the front pieces

And now this is my CG hair

I love it! ^.^

WOW waaaay more beautiful w/ your awesome curls!

I don't have a picture of my hair curly from before because i always used to straighten it but this is a picture of it straight around December last year, looking like broomstick ends.

And here it is after about 5 months of using the CG method on my hair. It's a little bit longer now then it is in that picture.

And this was taken yesterday while my hair was still wet and i was looking very pale lol.

I'm finally ready to post my before and afters! I had posted on the wavies board a few months back, but I figured I might as well post it here on the big thread, too.

It's been such a journey through CG -- I didn't know there could possibly be that much to learn about one head of hair! And I'm still learning and experimenting. But, I am so happy I've been working with my natural curl. I started out as a "wavy in denial," brushing my hair and blow drying it straight, wondering why it was so poofy and frizzy. Then I started working with the wave, and I never imagined I had such waves and curls and wurls hiding under my huge, poofy hair! Before CG, my hair was oily and itchy and disgusting all the time from over-stripping my hair with all those sulfates. Now that I'm completely sulfate and 'cone free, I am so much happier with my hair! It finally has a direction -- not just up or out! I started out with full-on CG, and my hair started out OK. I definitely saw results, but just CO-washing was definitely not cutting it. Once I started mod-CG, I was a lot happier. Now, every time I wash my hair I use a sort of low poo. Lately it's been Castile Soap, but soon, I'm hoping to use some gentler, more natural stuff (maybe even make my own shampoo from scratch -- thanks, IAgirl! ). I've learned a couple of really important things from CG -- mostly, though, I've learned that my hair is more moisture-loving than I will ever know. Pre-poos with oil, leave in conditioners, LOTS of heavy RO's, and Spritz and Condishes are absolute musts. It also hates protein (big shock with me having coarse hair, I know, but it took me forever to figure it out despite that!).

The first pic is my "before" hair, but after I started accepting my waves. That was actually a REALLY good hair day. Like, that was a one-in-a-million hair day, because it never looked like that. It was always a lot more poofy and undefined. The second pic was when I tried full-on CG for the first time in October, but I was still mistakenly using 'cones (whoops! ). You can see all the frizz, and it was pretty limp and lifeless, and I was still not giving my hair nearly enough moisture. The third one was when I started low pooing all the time, and my hair was finally getting a little bit better with the moisture issues and the frizz and poof (some time in May, I think). It got a lot more defined, too. The fourth was from a week or two ago, and the fifth was my 2nd day hair from this past Friday after my second ever coconut oil pre-poo (usually use EVOO), and I've been doing CG now for about 8 - 8 1/2 months.

Wavynwild- I've told you this before, but I just love your hair. It is neat how you can clearly see the different stages in all your pictures.

Thank you guys so much! You are all so awesome and supportive! Rustina and Ped -- Thanks! I think the most difference came after completely cutting protein out of my whole routine! Oh, and I think it's pretty hysterical that we just exchange hair compliments all the time, ha ha! I love your hair, you love my hair... It's too funny! But no matter how many times someone says it, it always feels awesome. So thank you again!

Blissdrops -- Your comment about my hair cut both cracked me up and made my day! My hair was actually always a LOT longer. Then I went to a "curly specialist" to get some layers, and she kept the length but gave me one really short curly layer and kept the straighter part longer, and it just didn't look good. So, I had a family member hack a LOT of length off while it was dry -- and they didn't go to beauty school or anything, so it wasn't a "curl specialist" cut, but it wasn't a bad cut either! T I'm glad you like it, though! There are still bits of hair that are uneven that I have to trim and work on, though. I think next time I'm gonna save myself the pain of going in to a salon and having them ruin my hair and just try IAgirl's DIY hair-cutting technique! Or have the same family member cut my hair.

Sure! It's just an inverted bob, very stacked in the back so that the crown can be short enough to curl. I also asked for the top layer along my part to be a bit shorter - my canopy in general just doesn't like to curl much unless it's shorter. Does that explain it enough?

Ok, if I've figured out how to attach these pics correctly, the first one is my hair just about 3 days into CG. My hair looked terrible and was defnitely in the dreaded "transition period" of going from sulfate shampoos and blowdrying to co-washing and airdrying. At that point, I wasn't so sure CG was the way to go for my hair.

The second pic is of my hair just earlier today after my Sunday afternoon session at my 'home beauty shop'.

I guess I'm just in my third week of CG, and I'm doing a lot of educated experimentation, but it seems things are coming together. I'm not sure if it was the new styling gel I used (LA Looks Sport) or the awesome Coconut Oil Rinse I tried out today (my hair is so soft and tangle free!), but I like how my hair is finally coming along. Hooray!

ETA -- Wow. I'm just looking at that 'before pic' again! To look at it you wouldn't believe that my hair actually used to look good when I put Frizz Ease on it and blowdried it. But as you see, as soon as I gave all that up to go naturally curly, my hair basically FREAKED OUT!! It's like it didn't know what to do with itself anymore. Thank goodness it's learning how to be curly again.
