So, I've been a lurker for some time now. Everyone's hair is absolutely breathtaking! I've been curly girl, got highlights that fried my hair, so I cut 6 inches off Then I went and got a keratin treatment, yuck! Then my roots started coming in and I had the good ole' half-n-half party playing on my head, blah, cut 4 inches off and here I am starting from square 1, again. I'm a self proclaimed 2.5b, I have VERY loose spirals that could or could not be waves depending on what I do. The pic here you can kinda see what I mean. The longer my hair gets, the more it clumps together to form long, think, ringlets, about 1.5-2 inches curl width, does that make sense?

I don't have any pre-CG pictures readily available but here it is after about 4 weeks. I'm finally happy with it. Transitioning wasn't very difficult though, because I've never really heat-styled much so there wasn't a whole lot of damage (and I've cut off most of my dyed hair). I've only straightened it for school pictures and the occasional special event.
It's not super clear quality but I think you can still see how it looks. I'm really iffy about the hair type still, though. I think it's a mix of 2B/3A?

Taylorniw -- I love your hair!! It looks super similar to mine -- I'm thinking 2b/3a for you (and me, I suppose) as well! Your hair is gorgeous.

I've been CG for almost two months now, after beginning to embrace my hair for the first time last March (albeit then with tons of products that were bad for my hair. John Frieda, I'm looking at you). For my entire childhood through the beginning of college, I wore my hair exclusively in ponytails and buns because it was bushy and awkward-looking. In middle school, I got a straightener, but I rarely used it because it took a long time to get the frizz and puffiness to go away. I also started getting it thinned regularly when I got haircuts (which horrifies me now).
I really struggled when I started CG with finding products and routines that would work for me. I've gotten a little better I think, and here's the result. The first picture is from two summers ago at the beach. The last three are pictures post-CG.
Thanks everyone who has helped me get started, especially the lovely ladies on the 2's board!

Posted my new haircut in the 2 section, adding to my afters! One of my best curly hair days, ever.

Thanks curlykristx! I found out that my hair gets easily weighed down by products with lots of oils in them, and I can get over-conditioned pretty easily. However, the spritz and condish method seems to work the best. I've had two day hair with it! I spritz with water, scrunch in Yes to Carrots condish (which I love), and then in the shower I use Giovanni TTTT poo and/or Suave Natural coconut. I don't rinse upside down because that makes the back of my hair a tangly mess. I scrunch in LOOB or CJ CCCC-lite, plop for 5 minutes, scrunch in LALSG, plop for 5 more minutes and then either diffuse or air dry. I'm a grad student, so I use the cheapest products I can!
lcl0706, your haircut is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. If I ever get brave enough to cut mine past my shoulders, that is what I want!

Thank you!! You have beautiful hair as well and your curl pattern reminds me of mine, only yours looks thicker. My ponytail is like 2" around If you ever work up the courage I say do it! I cut 7 inches off mine after having it past my bra strap for 7 years. I was nervous but I needed a change so bad, kept going back to pics of cuts like this, and even my stylist was like are you crazy?? are you sure?? We had a long discussion of what I want/don't want, and then I was like "just do it!!" and I haven't missed it one bit. I absolutely am in LOVE with it for the first time ever, maybe. It's very liberating!! I could make it look okay long and had a couple of pretty good days where I thought it was pretty and I was nuts but honestly, best hair decision I ever made, hands down.

before; last semester, when i still used heat stylers...curled the crap out of my hair, and it still went kinda limp. :/
today! (: after roughly 3.5 weeks of CG, no heat except for a cool diffuse after some air drying! i'm thrilled
sorry for the largeness, i'm relatively new here, but have been dying to get to a point where i was psyched to post a before/after! still working on figuring out true curl pattern!

I've had long, frizzy, unruly, messy hair my whole life. (Familiar story, right?) I always wore it pulled back into a bun, and it looked awful. I read the Curly Girl book years ago, and stopped using shampoos, but continued using styling products with cones. Doh! No wonder my hair continued looking crappy.
When I discovered the brazilian keratin treatment, I thought I had finally found my heaven in a $300 package. It was expensive, so I only got it for special occasions. I had it done shortly before my wedding (I was styling my own hair for the big day). Sure enough, my hair was really manageable and simple, and I thought it looked great at the time. Then when I saw the photos, I realized how lifeless and limp my hair looked, and decided it was finally time to embrace my curls.
So, one day, I just chopped off a big chunk of it myself, and switched over to cone-free styling products. I noticed a change almost immediately, and to celebrate, I treated myself to a Deva cut. I love my curls!! I've been wearing my hair down ever since, which is unprecedented. I am still amazed that I had this hair all along. Basically, this is how I feel every time I catch a glimpse of my hair in the mirror:
Before:
I don't have any photos of my "before" everyday look, since it was basically a messy, frizzy bun. This photo is from our engagement photoshoot, where I spent, like, two horus styling my hair and used ten different products, timing it carefully so that it would look nice for the pictures. Half an hour after our photosession, my hair predictably returned to its "stuck my fingers in a socket" thing.
Wedding day hair, shortly after my last BK treatment. I call this look "noodles and bobby pins."
After:
This was taken right after leaving the salon following my Deva cut.
My "everyday" hair now
I can't resist taking photos of my hair. I have, like, a hundred photos just like this one on my phone, haha.

Ok, I found this site a couple of years ago and have been lurking on and off since then. I am mixed with black/korean and have been fighting a battle with embracing my curly hair vs. loving my hair straight. It's not about how it looks for me, its about the simplicity. I can flat iron my hair in under 30 minutes and not have to put heat on it at all for about 4 days. But wearing my hair curly is a daily process, and if I can MANAGE to get second day hair I can't get rid of the halo of grizzly. Don't get me wrong, I love my curls, Im just lazy and don't like to spend a bunch of time in front of my mirror.
So instead of a 'before' pic ill just post straight hair pic.
I've never done this on a phone so I hope it works.
Also, it was THIS thread that first inspired me to try CG years ago... I'm pretty sure! All the curls are so lovely!
I now do modified CG and straighten once or twice a month, when I'm getting bored with the curly routine and want a change!

Confused...
I have been strictly co-washing with Suave Natural Coconut Conditioner for 1 week. LOVE the way my hair feels. I have curly hair that I've worn in a pixie for about a year, straightening every day and frying it to a crisp, so this is a huge improvement. Too short to see my curls, but am growing it out. SLOWLY but surely.
What I'm confused about is some product I tried today- Jessicurl cleansing cream. It lathers...??? My hair feels kind of dry now, even after adding conditioner.
What's' the best co-washing products you have found? Need light but not watered down. Also, any fast growth tips? Taking 10-15,000 mcg of Biotin every day right now.
I think I'm a 3 curly, not kinky curly. Thin, but a lot of it.
Thanks! http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlta.../icon_wink.gif
