To the bolded - that is exactly how my hair is. Curls, waves, kinks, and all I think we're hair twins No I've never successfully typed it so I gave up, it just doesn't fit into a cookie cutter hair type.
When I cut 7 damaged inches off mine, it was before I'd figured out what technique was making it stringy. It also had a lot of spots that had been thinned with thinning shears that needed cut off. I like my angled curly bob, but I'd also like to grow it back out, not quite as long, maybe to somewhere between shoulder and APL. If I can get it that long and healthy again, I'd be curious to see what it looks/curls like. But my
hair grows sooooo slow, so that's a while coming lol.

Gorgeous! What products are you using and what is your routine? And I think I read that you smooth products in...No scrunching?

I've been growing my hair for maybe 2 years, and I was thinking I'd have to cut it shorter to make it curl the way it used to. It was only recently that I realized that technique is just as important as product. I can get decent curl pattern in the longer layers but definitely the short ones curl up the most. I am glad to find I can keep my hair long, it is the only thing that has kept my boyfriend at bay. He hates the curls, but loves the length, so picky lol. I'd love to be brave enough to try a shorter cut but one miserable blunt collarbone-length cut at 12 years old left me traumatized. Seriously, I looked like a brushed out poodle. Ever since I'm scared of anyone with scissors. That stylist even chemically relaxed the "kinks" my hair has, which are usually in the front. I was walking around with a half relaxed head of hair with poodle frizz. *shudders*

Thanks SegB
So for products/routine, whew!
Right now I'm styling with FSG or LOOB under LASL Power Spikes. I live in high dews so I need super gel for frizz control. I rinse out my condish upright under cool running water, this is when I finger comb any knots and generally smooth out any snarls/tangles and make sure all the clumps feel smooth. Then I take the fsg/loob and rub between my hands and smooth it on the clumps from root to tip. My hair is still dripping wet at this point, so I smooth lightly so I don't get rid of the water. I go in sections, two in the front and two in back until everything feels coated. Gel goes on the same way. Then I'll flip upside down and scrunch and pump a few times to make sure everything is evenly distributed. It should feel "squishy" so if it doesn't I'll add some extra water. This is kinda like the supersoaker method. Then out of the shower and into a tshirt plop for a few minutes. When I take my hair down I'll check for those pesky little stringlets that never want to clump and stick them onto their neighbor clumps. I finger style those, and then diffuse.
I can't believe how long and complicated this sounds typing it out because I have gotten quite used to doing my styling in the shower while also getting clean. I hope it helps

Though the after picture was right after a devacut. My hair never, ever, ever in a million years actually looks that good on an average day. It looks more like this:
Yes, this is dry... LOL.

So excited
Most of my curly before pics I don't have available yet. The are only from last week when I decided to embrace my curls. All previous before pics show straight hair (because I would flat-iron my hair regularly).
But I started CG this week! I'm so excited. I told my mother I was going to try to embrace my curls and she was very proud. My husband absolutely loves my curls because they are my natural hair.
So I've added my before photo and one I took this morning after I SOTC (day 2, well, day 3 if you count my last sulfate wash on tuesday night as day 1).

I'm very excited to see how my hair changes over the coming months!

Thanks ProudCurly! My baby is not much of a baby anymore, he just turned 2
I need to find a better (or worse?) before picture, for some reason that's all I could find on my computer, but that would have been a decent day in the before there.
Here's a better before picture, shows how it has totally disorganized curl, some curls, some waves, some spikes...

My results
I haven't given up using shampoo yet. - But I've been using products without sulfates and silicones in 2 months now.
I can't believe how awful my hair once looked!
The last picture is taken today - 1 year and a few months after the first picture was taken. - After starting on my new routine + a hairdye.

I did before and after pics a few months ago, but I was digging through some older pics and found one that really showed how far I've come. It's not from immediately before I started CG. It's from about four and a half years ago, when my hair was at its most damaged. It was looking at this picture that prompted me to cut my hair to a lip-length curly bob and fire my stylist.
The after picture is from about three weeks ago (7 months modified CG).

Aww, thanks! I don't have as much of a set routine as a lot of the other ladies here, mainly because I let my inner product junkie take over for a while. I'm currently working on narrowing down the products I like. What I can say is that I primarily co-wash, either with a clarifying conditioner like VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea, or a cleansing conditioner like CJ DF. Due to an intense martial arts training schedule I cleanse and style my hair daily. Once a week or so (immediately prior to my PT/DT) I use a gentle sulfate shampoo- not because my hair feels like it has buildup, just because I like the results I get from my shampoo (CHS Treatment Shampoo). I typically use leave-in, curl cream, and gel, applied to nearly sopping wet hair. I scrunch out excess water with a microfiber towel and plop while I get dressed (about 5-10 minutes). After plopping I scrunch in a little extra gel and most days I air dry. My favorite products are in my signature, but right now I'm just using random combinations to try to get through way too many hair products cluttering up my bathroom.
