Hi guys...first pic is pre cg about 7 months ago. The second pic is right now about 1 month of cg. I'm so happy I discovered this website! My hair looks and feels so much healthier and shinier, I'm still working on getting good clumps but that'll get better with time

Now that I think of it, the post cg pic isn't that good cause you can't really see most of my curls lol. It's just waves on top and really big spirals on bottom...I'll see if I can find a better pic...

Default One year!!

Can't believe I've been CG/mod-CG for a year now! I had a couple flatiron relapses along the way but thank goodness my curls smacked me in the face for it. I'm having a really hard time picking one favorite after pic. Today I'm just overwhelmed at the difference in my hair. I straightened it for years, beating my stubborn curl pattern into submission with heat and chemicals. I believe there's still some relaxer left in the canopy that I refuse to chop off, but I think over time my unruly canopy will behave as the chemically altered parts continue to get trimmed off. It might be years since my hair grows slow, but at least I know what I'm doing now!

Before:

After:

Today, just LI & air dried

Feel free to try to type it. I never decided on one, it doesn't play by the rules anyways. Ended up deciding the only thing I knew for sure was that it was fine-textured, which led me to protein, which was the best dang thing I ever could've done.

BUMP! It's official after going through fourty pages of this I'm starting the curly girl method in two days (I just washed my hair today and I know to start out you have to wash out the silcones out with the dreaded sulfate filled shampoos, that wouldn't be good for my hair right after haha). I feel like this is an important thread to keep going because it really shows the beauty of curls and how amazing they can look when treated properly. I myself like my hair but if it can be more defined and shinier I'm going for it!

Hi curlygirlyy,

As far as product choice, it doesn't matter what your curl type is as much as your hair thickness, porosity, and elasticity. Take a shed hair. Roll it between your fingers. If you can barely feel it, your hair is fine and will tend to like protein. If it's as thick as sewing thread, or nearly so, it's coarse and will prefer moisturizers. Now run your fingers along the hair. If both directions are smooth, you have non porous hair and it will prefer moisturizers. If one direction is rough, bumpy, and even squeaky, you have very porous hair and it'll tend to like protein. Last, take both ends and gently pull. If your hair breaks without stretching, you have low elasticity and probably need more moisture. If your hair stretches but doesn't come back to its original length, your hair is overly elastic and probably needs protein.

---
2c/3a, M, ii, porous, good elasticity, APL, silvery dark brown.
Love coconut oil, olive oil, and Everyday Shea!

I've only been CG for 2 days, but my hair has already changed dramatically. The first photo is from last week; the second is from midday today, after an hour by the lake.

My (very newbie) routine is: CO - L'Oreal EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner; RO - Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition; LI - Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Dryness Reversal Treatment. Let it dry as I sleep. No styling product. Looking forward to finding a good protein treatment, as I suspect that'll give my hair another leap forward in health.
