I've dyed and straightened my hair more times than I should have...My hair was always so dry and frizzy. I've stopped straightening it so much for the past few months but dying it was another story. What can I say...I get bored and I love change. But something had to be done...
I've only started CG 4 days ago. The difference is night and day. Flash and camera are the same. First day my hair looks dull, frizzy, and just plain sad. The second 2 are Day 2's and already such an amazing result! Day 3 and 4 are a little frizzy...woke up later than I meant to so I had to rush. Not to mention it's raining outside. All I can say is I'm loving it!! I've told my friends, co-workers, and sisters about it already and I'm excited to see the results of the future!

Newbie here
I finally decided to embrace my curls a couple years ago. My sister is a hair stylist, and after attending seminars and whatnot to become a "Deva stylist" (yeah, I'm a lucky duck!) she introduced me to the Deva Curl products. HOLY COW what a difference!! That's when I started to think that I could actually work with my curls, instead of always fighting with them.
I flat ironed my hair most of the time through junior high/high school, and then I got to a point where I got sick of putting so much time into that! So, ponytails it was. Which I didn't like either. So glad to have found a better way!
I don't use Deva Curl anymore but it was a nice way to start out.
Anyway - here's before. Kind of old picture but like I said, normally it was flat ironed!
After - sorry, I had a horrible time trying to take a pic of my hair lol and I don't have recent photos of me!

First off, everyone is looking gorgeous! I get so excited every time I see there's a new post in this thread!
I am approaching my 6th week since going CG, and I can't believe the improvement already! First two pics are after my final sulfate wash. No product or styling, just air dried. The second two are from today.
Also, not sure why my hair looks so purple in the recent pics... silly cellphone camera!!

Ok, here are some pics of my progress, especially for my hair twin, Houseofcurls!! (If I ever take a better one, I'll post it, too. Lol!)
A particularly bad pre-cg day! (I was pregnant, too, and my hair had started growing in really dark! It wasn't as bad as it looks in this picture, but you can really see it here! (It was raining, too, so the top of my head was wet!)
Just a few months in... maybe 6mos? (not fully dry, so I had not SOTC yet.)
I think this was about a year?
Fairly recent - close to 2 years of CG, I think. (excuse the lack of make-up - LOL!)

Hi all,
I started reading the naturally curly board/website about four days ago because I wanted to stop blowing out/straightening my hair and start encouraging my curls. Yesterday I did my last sulfate wash and first co-wash/rinse out/leave-in. I had pretty healthy hair to start with, and I think I used way too much conditioner or didn't rinse it out thoroughly enough. It was kind of limp and super silky/soft. So today I did a low-poo and a rinse out (using much less conditioner). I scrunch & pumped, plopped, and diffused. I'm fairly happy with the results. I do, however, miss the volume I used to get with my blow outs. I keep wanting to puff up my curls.
So before I started I thought I was a 2B/2C, but now I think I'm a 2C/3A, with a few 3B curls in the canopy. I definitely have those straight underlayers typical of a 2C. They really bug me; if anyone has any tips on how to deal with them, I'd love to hear from you! I'm hoping they start curling up more as I continue my CG regimen.
My before and after pics are below (the before pic is from a few years ago, but is typical of what my hair looked like with a blow out).
Thank you all for your wonderful advice; reading through the boards really helped me start this whole process.

SpiderRa, if you want more volume at the roots, you can always carefully put your fingers along your scalp and jiggle them a bit. It looses the hold and gives a bit of lift.
Of you want your curls to be puffier, you can just scrunch the dry hair with a bit product and sort of be whispy about it, it looses them up a bit for more body.
It takes time to figure out how your hair reacts to your touching it, so work with it. You might find a way to have your healthy curls with a bit more of the body that you are looking for.
Diffusing gives me bigger hair with tighter curls, if that is an avenue you want to pursue.

Thank you all! I appreciate the compliments and the advice. I guess I was quite used to running my hands through my hair and/or flipping it over my shoulders. I never thought I was one of *those* girls , but now I know differently. I'm constantly reaching up to my head and then stopping half-way--must. not. play. with. curls. Arghhhh!
