So I thought I should pop in too!! Why not?

On the before I have longer hair but as you can see it's an undecided wave going on only lol!

I have been a CG for maybe 1.5 month, yes I know very soon, but I haven't seen my hair that curlier before!

Absolutely! I've got about two inches of roots that are so curly, I can't wait for the straightened parts to grow out!

Hello
I remember this thread really inspired me to continue CG with all the beautiful transitions
I had straightened my hair for over 6 years almost non stop without any heat protector, I stopped using heat about 4 years ago and my roots began to grow curly but my ends were loose and dry (attachment1)
I began CG in September 2013- I had two big chops and my hair is now getting curlier and healthier :>

though I do use the CG routine I do not use wash out conditioner and rarely oil as it over-moisturises my hair to become unmanageable which is weird as my hair has coarse strands and it also can not stand protein

I use drugstore brands which have none of the bad chemicals, such as superdrugs coconut and sweet almond conditioner
But these are intense conditioners that really moisturise dry hair
For my hair at that back which gets definition naturally they loose their bounce with these conditioners, but the frizzy bits at the front get really defined

I see you have coarse hair too, do you have a problem with the conditioners that you use? Any advice is welcome

But I'm wondering if maybe my hair is just so dry and damaged that it's taking a while to really see the effects of the conditioning. One of my biggest problems is wanting and needing to apply a lot of conditioner and often, as well, but trying to avoid buildup so as to avoid having to shampoo my hair.

I stopped straightening my hair in Dec. 2013. However, I was still using sulfates until February.

Here are my before and afters. The "before" was about 4 or so years ago. The "after" was taken about two weeks ago and was about 6 months after beginning co-washing and not using heat at all. I also included a pic of me as a kid about 9. It would be about 7 more years before I would even hear about conditioner. I had never tried conditioner or even knew it existed until I was about 16. Weird, I know but that was the late '70s, early '80s. The "kid picture" of me was taken in 1974.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier.

I have just recently began to use a new shampoo and conditioner, they are called Timotei shampoo and conditioners, they do not have any of the bad chemicals, they do not smell nice though, it has made my hair curlier and smooth without loosing the volume, they are not expensive

For styling I use vo5 miracle concentrate with Argan oil, when I apply that to wet hair it makes such a difference, I tested it just to make sure I was not imaging it and did the left side and the definition was fantastic compared to the right

What styling products have you tried? Any recommendations would be appreciated
Thank you

I startet my CG journey a little more than a year ago. Before, I wore buns most of the time. The first picture is an old brushed out mess. I remember that day, I brushed my hair to show everyone that my hair was too ugly to be worn out .
The other pictures are from 2013. In the beginning I had a hard time finding the right products and I also needed to find a way to define my curls (I do fingercoil a lot).
3b - fine - low porosity - low/medium density curls
Pre-poo: Olive and Arganoil with Aloe Vera and Condi
Cleansing: CV BBC/ ACV
Condish: Drug store brands
Leave-In: As I Am, SM
Thickening Growth Milk
Oils: Olive, Argan, Avocado, Grape Seed
Styler
: SM CES,
Eco Styler Gel

I've just co-washed with Alberto Balsalm (super cheap 1 conditioner) I also sometimes use it as a LI, other times I use A'kin LI which is expensive at 15 a bottle (I wait for Holland and Barrett have a buy one get the other half price sale before I buy). I use the Boot pink curl cream and umberto Giannini flirty curls scrunching jelly (using the curl cream stops the jelly from crisping up so I get soft curls but I still get frizz), I'm thinking of trying FSG.

I've tested The Body Shop low-poo conditioner and deep conditioner and I liked them so I might buy some when I run out of my current supply. I need to double check the ingredients on the deep conditioner though.

I was recommended Mizani products so I might give them a try...
