To Plop or Not To Plop?

That is my question!

For those of you who successfully plop do you see a big difference? I have done this a few times (probably wrong) and I am just wondering about it.

Can you tell me the difference you see?

In my mind I think the plopping would take off the products you put on your hair? Is this true?

Can you expert ploppers give me tips?

Thanks!
I could never quite get plopping to work for me. I tried 5 minutes, 20 minutes, 15 minutes and always ended up with weird flat spots on my head.

I haven't sworn off it forever though. I may try again.

I was never under the impression plopping removed product from my hair.

So far I've had much more success scrunching product into my hair with my hands after scrunching with my microfiber towel. I then scrunch with the towel again after product application to distribute a little more and encourage curls to "behave". GL!

I plop almost everytime I wet my hair. I find it gives my curls more bounce and really helps to cut the drying time. I've been using a long-sleeved t-shirt for months but found a big microfibre towel on sale on the weekend. I just tried the towel today. My hair looks good today but not sure whether the towel has anything to do with it. Or if it's the "msgiblet double-diffuse" method.

One thing I've found is that I have to put my head straight down in the t-shirt. If it's off-sided at all, my curls are wonky and I end up having to re-wet. I've also found that I can plop 5-10 min maximum. Anymore and I start to frizz.

I do put more gel in my hair after plopping. The few times I've forgotten I my hair ends up losing curl or frizzing. So it does take some product out but it probably depends on how much you use before plopping and how much crunch you like after it's dry.

I've never felt the plopping removes product. At least my towel or t-shirt doesn't seem to have residue in it.

It did take a while to figure out what worked best for me.

I love to plop. I think it's the greatest invention in the history of humankind.

I have the type of hair that takes ALL DAY to airdry. Like 12 hours. So, consequently, I plop for as long as possible, to get the most water out that I can. I usually leave it plopped for at least 30 minutes (longer if I have time). It's still quite wet when I remove the towel, it's just not drippy wet. Then I diffuse for 20 minutes and let airdry the rest of the way (which still takes a few hours).

If I don't plop, my hair drips on me for an hour, then it comes out practically straight. The weight of the water pulls out all the curl. Plopping helps get my hair dry before the water-weight can do it's dirtywork. I don't notice a loss of product from plopping. You can always compensate by using a little extra product if you think there's not enough left after plopping.

Obviously, not everyone is extreme as me when it comes to hair holding onto water. Those who's hair dries faster would plop for less time.
My hair dries in less then half the time - but thats just a bonus benefit.

Plopping helps me with clumping and gives me a nicer curl coming off the scalp (my hair tends to S-wave flat against my head).

Its just so much better.

I've gone back and forth on plopping lately and I can most definitely tell a difference. I get a lot more volume, a lot more curl all over and more curl formation at the roots when I plop. Now, I'm back to doing it & I do it loosely and only for about 10 minutes -- just long enough to do all my moisturizing. When my hair was longer and the layers were also longer, I plopped longer.

Now that my hair is longer AGAIN I may try plopping again. But even when my hair is longer I can only plop about 5 minutes - long enough to get dressed. If I go longer than that my curls get weird and I get a flat top even if put my towel on really loose. I can also get issues with the side curl being pulled out by being put up in a plop - gosh my curls are weiners!

Thanks! Now I am thinking I should try this again!

Can anyone give me tips? I watched the Jessicurl video a few times and could still use some help
Step by step would be great!
I've always put my hair up in a towel after I washed it. I would twist it up in the towel which would disrupt the curl alot tho I didn't know it at the time. Now I bend over, scrunch my hair up to my head, and wrap with a plain old terry cloth turban towel. Leave it up for 5 or 10 min and let air dry for awhile, then diffuse.

Plopping is wonderful for me. My curls have gravity, water weight, and length all working against them. Plopping is how I get volume at the top. Like Jeepcurly, I still use a plain old terry cloth towel. A really old one that doesn't have much nap.
