Question about going to the salon

okay this was mentioned in another thread and i have actually wanted to post this question for awhile.

i love my new stylist and the cuts she's been giving me but baby...when she styles my hair at the end of it all it just looks like a huge frizzy mess when she diffuses it. or even when she doesn't diffuse it still ends up looking kind of jacked up.

i'm kind of thinking the next time i go in to ask if i could show her how i style my hair as far as diffusing and putting in gel. would this be a no no?

also i'm thinking of bringing my own products in the next time as well.

any thoughts on bringing in my own products, the whole styling thing and if i would be offending her?

When I go to the salon I just ask my stylist to not put anything in after she's done and not to bother styling it at all. Sometimes this can save money since it seems like some people charge more for a cut and style vs just a cut. Why should I pay for a "style" when it looks like crap.

She's never been offended, some people in the past have looked a little surprised but no one has ever seemed offended. I would just rather go home and do it myself instead of sitting there letting her work it up into huge frizzball, then going home and fixing it

I love CK and B&A gel...I like HETT Mousse
mm the most i have done so far is ask that they not diffuse...so i let them put in product. but since i've gone cg i just don't want all that gunk in my hair. my new stylist when she found out i started diffusing got excited and started diffusing me. i just diffuse for a couple of secs on each section but she just goes on and on and on until there is no curl left.

think i will just have her skip the whole diffusing next time and bring my own product.

My stylist adds way too much gunk and her diffuser technique sucks! So, I usually have her blow it out straight. That way, I have a different look for a few days before I wash it again.

I only have my hair cut and/or colored, never styled. We're talking close to 30 years--since I went curly. Always left wet. My hair dresser is a good friend, so it may be easier for me. I only started to use styling products recently. I bring them with me and put them in my hair when he's done. I may dry a little with flour sack towel or microfiber clothe (mine)--but that's it. He gets a kick out of it and is interested in what I'm using--this time.

Just make an appointment for a cut. Bring your stuff, if you want. Don't expect to use the salon's equipment--diffuser, etc. and you should be okay.

I have the exact same problem with my stylist. She does great with the cuts and color, but boy, when she gets done diffusing, I have stuff on my head that doesn't even resemble my hair. She can't even come close to getting it right. She even asked me if I used a curling iron because when I come in it always looks soft and spirally. I've told her about plopping and how I diffuse it, but she still looks at me like, "Yeah, right. No curling iron? Uh-huh". So, I just leave with it wet. Next time, I'm going to ask her to blow it out straight. It's been a couple years since I've had it straight, so I want to see what it will look like.

I always leave with mine wet and just fix it up when I get home. I don't think my hairdresser would be in the least offended if I took my own stuff in. In fact I think she's probably secretly relieved that she doesn't have to deal with it!

My salon is like a bunch of robots. Everybody blow-drying everyone's hair into the same style....boring!

I go there for the color (and the cut is not bad). They gotta use their products....I just know it without even asking.

The best thing that came out of all of this (I know I'm rambling here...) is that my stylist actually encouraged me to grow my hair out, and THEN (yes, I'm shoutin' this one) pleaded with me to wear it naturally curly! Why? Because I could see the beads of sweat on his forehead every time he had to blow my hair straight.
If you're really uncomfortable, you could just say you're going home to shower or to the gym or something and that she doesn't need to style.

My stylist is the same- great at colour and cut but so bad at diffusing. She insists on diffusing a bit every time I try to sneak out with wet hair so I end up with a half wet/half frizzy mess. I now just bring a cap with me and throw it on the minute I am out the door so no one will see me with the disaster. Last time I even chuckled a little as she attempted to style it. Here most salons charge for styling whether or not they do it.
Yea...sounds familiar. Almost every stylist I go to messes it up pretty bad. It's like they have never seen curly hair before. And forget trying to explain it.
I had one stylist before going cg that had my hair pretty curly and beautiful at the end of the cut/style. Of course all the products were non-cg. Maybe I will let her try next time with those just to see what it looks like.
Is Suave Naturals Strawberry a clarifying shampoo? Just have to have sulfates, right?

All these things to know...brain hurts...

Loving JC and CK products... Been loving them for 3 years...looking to branch out and try new things!!!
the thing is my stylist is a curly and most of her clients are curlies. i just don't understand it though...i mean i could see when she is diffusing my head what a big mess it is and she keeps going and when all is said and done...yeesh. i'm just like "it looks GREAT...thanks!!!" i still love her though...she just has diffusing issues.

in the past i normally don't let them hold a dryer to my head but i've changed my tune because i know once dry they can do a bit more adjusting to the cut if needed. i think i just might go back to walking out wet and taking my chances.

i definitely plan on taking my own products next time.

My stylist is a deva stylist, but since the deva products dont work for me, she lets me bring my own products. She's usually pretty interested in what I'm doing. She's a curly as well, and she thinks I'm hilarious when I talk about CG, though she is really interested. Last time I saw her, I took my products with me and applied them all myself and scrunched a lot with my flour sack towel. She was like "OK... can I do something now? It looks like I'm not doing my job..." lol.

Sorry to ramble, but it's never been a problem for me to take my own products. You could call and ask to be sure.
