This is a problem

For the last 3 months I've been trying to get my CG on. I'm starting to have problems with tangled and matter hair. I also find myself carrying around lent? My natural hair has gotten so curly I'm having trouble trying to comb it out, it won't stop tangling.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Fluffy
I only comb in the shower when I'm going a cowash. Are you trying to comb at other times?

UTgal, I've tried combing in the shower, but my hair tangles so fast I end up having to comb it out again. Breakage is started to scare me as well. Seems like my hair loss had doubled.
What kind of comb are you using? A very wide-toothed comb seems to work the best for most people. (Although some might disagree.) Make sure that you are VERY gentle. It is my understanding that wet hair is weaker than dry hair, so don't rip your comb through. Are you combing with your conditioner still in your hair? (That's what I do and it makes it much easier for me.)

Also, are you combing from root to ends? That could be your problem. When my hair is very tangled, I grab a section of hair right above the ends. I then comb out all the tangles there, and move my way up. Eventually, I get to the roots and I then move on to the next section of hair. When you hold right above the section you are combing, this helps you pull less on your scalp. HTH!
I have 3c hair that I haven't straightened in over 5 years. It's just past shoulder length when dry, and almost waist length when pulled straight.

05/12/09 Still CG. Cowashing with VO5 Lavender Luster. I then condition with Giovanni Smooth as Silk. Styling with VO5 Lavender Luster conditioner with my wide-toothed comb.

QY - Yes I've been using a wide tooth comb. I've broken a couple. I also detangle in the shower starting from ends to root while conditioner is still in.

My hair looks to be the same type as yours 3c?

I noticed that you use Mixed Chics products? So do I.

Using
: Suave Naturals conditioners, LA Looks Curl/Sport Gel, still looking for a good deep conditioner that i can buy locally (CVS/Walmart/Target,etc). Suggestions? =)

I like to mix Suave coconut cond. with my gel and scrunch them both in, after using Suave Aloe and Waterlily to co-wash and condition. I detangle it in the shower with a wide-toothed comb. & when hair is dry, if crunchy, scrunch once again.

CG since Aug. 2, 2008!

Stranger_X.

I came back to this post to ask UTgal where she purchased her comb from when I saw your post. You answered the question I never got to ask.

THANK YOU ! ! !

Looks like after work I'll be stopping by CVS to purchase one.

The Beauty supply store have what is called a shower comb - ve r y wide toothed. Also, does your conditioner have enuf slip to it?

Lastly, are you sleeping on wet or damp hair? My hair gets matted and tangly if I sleep on it wet.....

Before I found the most amazing stylist, my hair tangled a lot. I only combed it in the shower, with conditioner. Never at any other time.

Now that the bulk has been removed from my hair, my hair doesn't tangle. I had a lot of hair removed and at first, I felt naked but now I love it. It looks great too. I'm so happy with my hair now.
Sally's sells a "shower detangling comb" i think the brand is mebco. It has very wide curved teeth. Also be sure that your hair is saturated with conditioner. Have you considered trying CG? That has made a big difference in the condition of my hair.

I find that sometimes it takes conditioners a minute to soften up the tangles (or get into them!) so waiting a minute or so before combing helps quite a bit. Applying extra conditioner to areas that seem really knotted helps as well. And a lot of patience! A lot!

Sometimes my hair is more tangled than other times. Mostly depends on it rubbing on what I am wearing and the length of time since I last detangled. It's has much more tangles on hair day 3 than on second hair day.
