Notty, that has been my impression since I started posting on the boards.

(I hope the thread doesn't come across as bragging!

I've observed we seem to be in the minority and am just wondering if there's anything "special" I should be doing.

To all curlies living in more humid climates: your skin will thanks you now and will again later!

I grew up in Seattle and I miss how my skin would feel. Our UV index here is INSANE. I work at 7,000 feet!

Where I live: In one of the valleys near Los Angeles

Biggest obstacles: The very dry air - when the humidity bottoms out, if I use a product with a humectant high up in the ingredient list, it sucks the life right out of my hair. As summer has started, I've begun adding more moisture to my hair, which seems to help.

Products I love: I love Kinky-Curly KCKT as rinse-out and leave-in and KCCC for styling, hands down my favorite. I also love Matrix Biolage (the cheapie knockoff) as a rinse-out. I love pink Boots curl creme and use it with HESMU gel. My HG is SheaM as leave-in with everything but the Kinky-Curly. I'm a plopper/clipper/diffuser.

Products I avoid: I avoid magnesium sulfate these days because I find it drying, and I am mostly protein sensitive so I use VERY limited quantities of keratin but that's all.

I live in AZ. I've also found the answer to healthy, happy, curls here in the desert is MOISTURE. No duh, huh?! So recently, since our lovely 112 degree summer weather has arrived, I've stopped using any cond. w/protein or cones. And have been co-washing with Suave Coconut cond. w/a bit left in. My curls are happy and so am I. Now if I can only find the perfect moisturizer/sunscreen for my face....Going on 12 yrs. with these summers here and that first day of 110 always surprises me. Like walking into a giant hair dryer turned on hot! I read in the news today, Phoenix, AZ was named the country's sweatiest city.

I've pretty much lived in the desert my whole life and never really knew of such a difference. I just went to England for two weeks and my skin was amazing. My hair not so much, but what a trade off for my skin. When I got back to the desert the moisture in my skin was sucked out and hasn't returned. I told my husband I'm moving to Seattle because I love the way my skin was. I can learn to control my hair.

My routine in the desert is not to use anything with proteins in it, I use aloeba for leave in and boots curl creme it seems to do pretty well. Then I plop and diffuse because the really wet hair irritates me. But by the end of the day I think my hair has melted and it's flat so I can't win either way.

I'm in the San Joaquin valley and it's hot hot hot.
I use Jessicurl products and make sure to condition daily and deep treatment once a week, at least.

Getting enough moisture is key, for me.
I'm a lotion nut too... everything is too dry.

Thanks for the tips. I live far from the desert but our winters are very dry and my hair hates it so I'm always looking for ideas to make it happy til the humid weather comes around again.

I too have found Jessicurl products work for me. I'm glad they work for you too.

What brand of deep conditioner do you use? I bought some VO5 hot oil but haven't opened it yet. I'm pretty sure it's CG...

I work in Valencia, CA where there is virtually no humidity at all. I use Paul Mitchell The Conditioner leave-in, Re:coil, and Joiwhip. When I'm home in the mountains (Kern County) there is some humidity but I don't change my routine. There really isn't enough to make a difference. I can't think of any drawbacks of living in a dry climate in regards to my hair. Jessicurl products don't work for me at all. In fact, I have some trial size products I should probably swap.

On a side note...I found something wonderful for my skin. It's Moisture Surge by Clinique. You apply it after your moisturizer. My skin has definitely been better since I started using it. I broke out the first week but haven't since. It really helped my dry skin.

I live in Arizona too. I'm a native.

My biggest obstacle; combatting dry, parched hair! Humectants and mag. sulfate make it much, much worse!! I love GVP PM the detangler condish. I just tried KCKT and KCCC combo and absolutely loved it! After scrunching out the crunch I had soft, clumpy, bouncy curls that lasted all day and I even had 2nd day hair. My curls weren't even crushed!

I just bought some coconut oil and I'm going to try it as a pre poo treatment to see if it helps. I have added a couple of drops of AKO to my LI and that seemed to help.

I'm wondering if a humidifier in the bedroom would help?

I live in Grantsville, Utah, which is a little town just about 45 minutes outside of Salt Lake City.

My biggest challenge is the dryness sucks the curl right out of my hair. It's not pretty. I'm thinking I need to go get my hair cut again to combat this issue. Plus, I just hennaed again on Sunday, so that could attribute to the recent lack of curl.

Anywho. I make sure I pour on the moisture for my hair with JC WDT or TooShea, then try and lock it in.

I'm really really really struggling with the dryness this year and am even considering straightening, but then with a swamp cooler, that ruins that. I'm really in a quandry and think I might end up with updos every day.

I think a haircut is in order. Maybe that'll help with some of the issues.

I live in South Australia, apparently the driest state on the driest continent. I don't have issues with the dryness, my problems arise when we have humidity in any way, shape or form. I sometimes wonder how I lived 28 years in north-west England with all the dampness there.

I use Too Shea and the WDT. I love the Too Shea.. the WDT, I haven't noticed any difference between it and a product I've used from Sally's which is protein and moisture.
I love Jessicurl products. I have the gallon size of Too Shea, RR and CC sitting in my bathroom. Love 'em.

Yep. I order when shipping is 5$ or free. Each gallon is 100$
I love knowing I have enough product for the year and I don't have to feel guilty by taking $$$ from the budget each month to buy product. And this is the most economical also.

its finally getting really hot and dry here, all summer its been raining alot!

i have coconut too and think i might try doing pre poo treatments! my hair was awsome for a while but now it is really dry and frizzy, must be the climate-my first big seasonal change while CG.
