Default Woooooooohoooooooooooo!!!

OK, I am normally not a night-time washer, but I couldn't wait to try this, so I took a shower before I went to bed.

My hair stayed totally secure in the scrunchie all night. I took it down when I got up and shook it out. AMAZING!! I thought only the ends would be curly, my hair isn't really very long. But curls were everywhere, and the volume is incredible. It was still a bit damp, but I don't have to work till noon, so I will let it air dry the rest of the way.

Thanks again for the idea! I am hoping and praying this works for me consistently and I am not just having beginner's luck! I think this method will make my hair life SO much easier!

Isn't it amazing how curly it gets from doing this?!?! I was worried I was just gonna be curly on the ends too!

Now I feel stupid; I had an opportunity to try a wet pineapple last night and lost my nerve and plopped instead. The results were fine, but I wonder if I'd have gotten better results with a wet pineapple. Plus my plopping t-shirt came off about two hours before I got up. Silly, silly Michelle. Another night.

I tried a damp pineapple overnight last night. I washed at 9 and by 11 my hair was 95% dry (I did a little diffusing), so I put it up in a pineapple, scrunched a little more AVG on the ends and went to bed. Holy big hair batman. I woke up to great volume (almost too much) and big clumpy curls. My only complaint is that my hair has that messy look that 2c/3a can tend to get. Otherwise I LOVE this method. I am a little scared to try a wet pineapple overnight, because I have never had any luck with sleeping on wet hair in a plop or in any other way, but maybe I will slowly work myself there... I will probably try the wet pineapple for a few minutes as MsG originally described in the near future. I love your tips so much!!!

Thanks for the tip!!!

See, I love that look. I'm rocking that look today from my most-of-the-night plop with two hours of just sleeping on my damn hair cause my tshirt came off.

I'm glad so many of you are having success with it! YAY! I'm doing it in the morning, though, when styling in place of plopping. I'll have to try it at night sometime since you guys are having such good luck with it and I'm not able to plop overnight because I can't stand anything on my head.

I have a few questions... How many times do you wrap around the scrunchie? You don't want it too tight, right? I have fine, medium hair so it felt necessary to wrap it around twice and it feels secure but not tight. And also I have little curlies around the back of my neck that will not fit into my pineapple, so should I leave them or pin them up?
I have only done the wet pineapple in the morning and I wrap the scrunchie around twice; just enough to hold it in place -- it isn't tight at all. When I do a dry pineapple at night, some of my hair doesn't quite make it all the way to the top of my head, so I just let it fall out if it wants - doesn't seem to hurt anything at all.

Well I just dont get it! Ive tried all sorts, plopping over night just keeps me awake, satin hair hats crush my curls and pineapplintg just makes my hair frizzy all around my head and in the morning when I take the scrunchy out my hair just stays put!

I was worried about my hair staying in place on top of my head after I took the scrunchie out but I just shook my head to let the curls fall back down and used some gel for touch up.

Picture? picture anyone? Wait, so this gives volume at the roots...oooh I don't need that, I've got enough there. If I tried this I'd probably resemble Diana Ross or someone from the 80's.

I really dislike going to bed with wet hair or even dry hair up in a pineapple so I wet my hair every morning.
But I thought I'd try a modified daytime version to see how it worked since my hair has been a little flat up top lately.
I wet my hair and added gel as usual. I scrunched a little with my turban towel. Put hair in a pineapple and put turban towel on top of it (I also can't stand having water drip on me or my clothes. Yes, My name is Jeepy and I am a fusspot.)
I left the turban on for about 10 min. and kept my hair in the pineapple for about 20 min. more while I ate breakfast.
I removed the scrunchie, shook my hair a little, and scunched a bit. Put a couple clips up top to keep hair out of my way while I put on my face. Removed clips, diffused a bit, scrunched in some Ojon, done.
I've been doing this for 4 or 5 days and it has really helped with the volume on top of my head. And my curls seem livelier (tho they still curl in odd directions as always).
Thanks for the idea!

I'm glad it worked for you. I didn't do it this morning and I really wish I had. If nothing else, I like that it keeps my hair out of the way while I moisturize and do my face.

I have to add my two bits. I tried wet plopping last night. I have 2b hair and have been experimenting with not using gel. I don't have great curls and sometimes not even great waves. I like to think my hair is healthier than it was when I started a year ago.

Anyway......

I took a shower last night, conditioned, scrunched in FOTE, then pineappled. I put a T-shirt fabric pillowcase over my pillow, told my husband I was experimenting (again) when he gave me a funny look, and went to bed. I got up this morning, washed my face, got dressed, pulled out the scrunchie

And........

HOLY MOLEY, Batman....I had big hair!!!! Never had it before in my life and nice waves and curls!!! Wow!!!! Now I am thinking I will haul my gels back out of the cupboard and scrap the experimenting! (My curls were gone by 4pm between driving with the windows in the car down, the lack of humidity, and no hold to the hair product). And maybe I will finally break down and order the CK.....too bad I already broke down and ordered CV shampoo bar samples-no, I am excited about them!

Ok, so I decided to try it. I mean, plopping my pineapple after spritzing the ends has been working great, so why not try? I could gain root lift...pretty much nothing to lose but an option to experiment.

So last night around midnight, I showered and did my usual routine (I wanted to do everything else the same so I would know for sure it was routine and not product). I put up my pineapple VERY loosely - I didn't even twist it. It was just barely on there, not tight at all. Then I plopped my pineapple and went to bed.

But this morning at 8:30, it still felt really damp. Around noon (12 hours plopped!), I took out the scrunchie and plopped again. At 4:30 this afternoon, I unplopped, and it was STILL WET!! SIXTEEN AND A HALF HOURS LATER!! But I was going shopping, so I left it down to finish air drying. It did turn out pretty good, but it took SO much longer to dry that I'm not sure I have the time for it again.

I may just have to resign myself to the fact that my hair isn't ever going to look as good and full on wash day as it does on day 2, although wash day means less frizz.

*sigh* Is it too much to ask that I can have it all?

Questions:
When you wet pineapple overnight, do you wrap it up or keep it free?
And, do you wet pineapple overnight using gel or mousse?

Hair that freely borrows from 3a/ 3b texture schools. These are the things I use to care for it:
  • Apple Cider Vinegar rinses weekly
  • shampoos occasionally that do not contain sulfates
  • conditioners without silicones or proteins (or so I think- Keratin seems to do ok)
  • Flour sack towel
And I dont even know what else right now...thinking I may need to drop gels altogether...

Currently have Shea Moisture and DevaCurl products that I may just need to give up on and cut as a loss...

Since my hair is only a little longer than shoulder length, I just leave it free. The hair coming out of the scrunchie isn't long enough to worry about it pulling out the curl.

Yes, I use gel and usually more than I would normally use if I wasn't doing it overnight. I leave it crunchy so it will hold and in the morning I diffuse, if needed, and then scrunch out the crunch.

Last night, I did a wet pineapple. I used Biotera Leave-In and Tightly Wound spray gel. I've been having trouble getting even coverage when spraying, so I took out the sprayer and put on a regular flip top lid and used it as a regular gel - I like it much better this way. I scrunched in quite a bit of gel and diffused for a few minutes and let air dry and then pineappled right before bed. It was still damp and crunchy this morning, so I spritzed a little and diffused for a couple minutes. It came out pretty good. Not quite as curly as when I do it in the morning, but definitely good enough to keep this an option when I don't want to deal with it in the morning. I think it would have turned out even better if my hair had been a bit more dry before I pineappled.

Gosh, I'm a newbie here and I've been pineappleing for years without even knowing what I've been doing just to keep my hair out of my way when I'm sleeping. But since I have so much hair I tend to only wash (curly girl method of course) my hair as it takes too much time to do everything.

Now since reading on this forum I've been using a water spray bottle to just dampen my hair a bit and then pineappling. This is a great idea and has worked wonderfully. I'm on day 4 with nice loose curls and lift. I've added just a bit of gel to help with the frizz. (Of course it is summer and most of the time my hair is up cause I can't stand it on the back of my neck when it's hot so it doesn't have a lot of chance to get all blown around). I love the feel of my hair when I take it out of the pinapple that I dampened the night before, it's soft and has lift and real curls.

I wish overnight plopping worked me. I tried it again last night and once again, I couldn't sleep with that towel on my head, plus it came loose in the middle of the night. I woke up with really great curls on one side and flat, wet, straight hair on the other. Had to go get in the shower again. I just need to give it up.
