Wet Pineapple Instead Of Plopping
This morning I started thinking (always scary!) that when I pineapple at night, I get great volume and my curls stay in tact, especially on the sides, so why not do it wet instead of plopping? So, after I brushed my leave-in and gel through with my Denman and scrunched really well, I carefully put my hair up in a loose pineapple and scrunched the ends. Did my moisturizing, etc., then 5-10 min. later, while upside down, I gently removed the scrunchie and shook my hair to work my hair back down. I scrunched some more with my Curlease, applied a little more gel to the ends and diffused. It came out great. I had more lift at the crown area and my sides curled up much better. I could have probably gotten away without clipping. I think this worked for me by not smashing my hair as much as plopping sometimes does, but still kept any water weight from pulling out the curl.
I don't know how this would work for those of you who plop for a long time, but for the short time I did it, it worked out great. Anyone else tried this and had good luck with it?

you might have something here. i think i will have to try this. i usually only leave my curlease towel on for about 5 minutes. any longer & my hair would be dry.
now i just need a scrunchie...

I've thought about doing this a few times but never got around to it! I am definitely going to try this out tomorrow now.

Pineappled instead of plopped
I did this a couple of nights ago. I just finished a long bike ride and wanted to wash my hair before bedtime. I know it's probably not good to do, but I went to bed with wet hair.
Got out of the shower after putting on a leave-in conditioner, then combed through (fine tooth comb) gel. Scrunched, and while still upside down, put my hair in a loose pineapple.
Then went to bed with the wet pineapple. I woke up the next morning and my hair was not only really soft (I've been using the same leave-in/gel for a while now), but had volume and clumpy curls.
I scrunched out any remaining crunch with a light oil (I use avocado) and was set for the day. My hair was great all day long.
I tried it again for the next 2 days - all with the same results.
Although I cannot find the link as to why it's not good to go to sleep with wet hair (breakage??), I haven't noticed any breakage or split ends or anything in my hair (yet).

Having it up in a pineapple while wet probably helps protect it. I've never tried pineappling and going to bed with it wet since I always shower and do my hair in the morning. I've tried overnight plopping and couldn't stand the towel on my head. Glad it worked out so well for you!

Thanks!

Putting it in a ponytail on the very top of your head with a scrunchie (NOT an elastic!) -- it should look like the leaves at the top of a pineapple.

Absolutely. This is how most here maintain their curls overnight when trying to get 2nd (or more) day hair. I just decided to give it a try this morning when styling instead of my usual plopping.

I will definitly try that tonight because I always struggle with how to make my curls last more than the one day that I wash. Thanks!

Hmmmmm, a wet pineapple makes perfect sense to me on so many levels. I can NOT believe I never thought to try this before!
Pure genius, Ms. G!! Thanks for the great idea, can't wait to attempt this tomorrow morning!

Questions:
How did you get the scrunchie out without pulling out some of the curl and/or creating frizz?
When you take you hair down, doesnt it then have a ridge, mark or line of demarkation from where the scrunchie was?

I just slid my fingers under the scrunchie and lifted it off and pulled it over -- it hardly touched my hair. My hair is still pretty wet and I use a chenille crunchie. Nothing pulls at all.

No, again I use a chenille covered scrunchie -- you should use some type of fabric covered one, not an elastic. It's pretty loose and not tight at all -- it basically just fits around the hair enough to hold it. Even if I left it on a long time, it probably wouldn't leave a mark like an elastic one would, but I only had it in for 5-10 minutes & wouldn't do it for much longer. It's the same thing as putting it up in a pineapple at night when your hair is dry.

How come? Aren't you able to do it yet? Jeez, your hair has grown so much, it looks almost as long as mine -- only curlier! Hey, now I'm jealous.

I just tried the wet pineapple! I have never even tried the pineapple before but I have high hopes that it will work for me!
I have a few questions... How many times do you wrap around the scrunchie? You don't want it too tight, right? I have fine, medium hair so it felt necessary to wrap it around twice and it feels secure but not tight. And also I have little curlies around the back of my neck that will not fit into my pineapple, so should I leave them or pin them up?

Works for me!
Damp pineapple works for me! I did this when I first went CG and was discouraged from it in one of my first posts. I've recently revisited it, and find it a nice alternative to the overnight plop.
Glad it seems to be working for you!
I also find that if I'm doing an overnight plop, if I gather my hair as though I were going to pineapple it, scrunch the ends really well and then secure the plop, I'll get something close to what I get from pineappling as far as volume. Not for light sleepers though - I sleep like a rock, so it works well for me.

I'm a hybrid. I plop for twenty minutes, then damp pineapple. Most of my volume comes from there. Without it, I have typical 3A flattop. (do we have a flat smiley?)

Never thought of that! I can't plop, it smashes my curls rather than enhances them. Maybe this would work. Are you all 3a's? Have any 3b's tried it successfully?
I'll let you know if I try it. My hair is finally getting long enough to possibly pineapple again, I haven't tried yet.

Last night was the first time I had ever tried the wet pineapple and when I took it out this morning I had so much volume up at my roots. I was amazed because I usually suffer from the 3a flat top as well.
