Question Dimethicone and Dimethiconol...is there a diff?

So me and my mom were at the store today looking at the ingredients of, well, every poo, condish, and styling product in the beauty aisle (yes, it's THAT bad! lol) and noticed that while some did not contain dimethicone, they did contain dimethiconol. Is this basically the same thing???

School me.

Thanks!

I believe that they are two different -cones. The dimethiconol is water soluble... I think. Hopefully, someone else will jump in.

Hmmm...yeah, hopefully.

Yesterday was actually the first time I saw this ingredient in a product. Weird.

Thanks.

Here's an article that lists several common silicones and whether they are water soluble or not:

Dimethiconol: Can stabilize emulsions • Reduces emulsion particle size • Adds emolliency and conditioning to emulsionsystems • Improved application properties of skin careproducts • Improves spreading and coverage of products.

According to Olay its
used for improving the appearance of scars.

Cyclomethicone and Dimethiconol: There are silicas that are derived naturally from sand. The fluid properties of these emollients make them feel like silk on the skin.

Dimethiconol Silicone: This is an oil derived from silica and used to impart smoothness to the skin.

doesn't seem to be water soluble to me :-)
