My clipping method (with pics)

chicpower was asking yesterday about clipping and I have had several PMs asking me how I clip since I no longer suffer from flat top. Since TS Faye has decided to park over the city of Atlanta for the day, and golfing was out of the question, I have too much time on my hands and decided to take some pics!

I describe my method in the pictures, but basicaly I pretend I am going to wrap the hair around my finger, but instead I just create a "hump" and clip it at the bottom. This has worked wonders for my flat top.

It looks great, especially after you scrunch out the crunch. I am a clipping drop out. Wish I had the patience for it, but then your method doesn't look like it takes very long.
3a/medium texture/normal porosity
Whenever I've clipped, it turns out really odd looking at the base, particularly in the very front of my hair. Your clipping method looks awesome!! Thank you so much for posting that!!
Beautiful! Your clipping is almost like making a very loose pin curl. I'll have to give it a try! Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for sharing! I need to experiment with clipping as I definitely suffer from the old 3a flat top.

Thanks for posting your clipping pictures--I'm going to try it. Your hair looks great.
The clipping worked great!! I was complimented on my hair by two different teachers at my kids' school! One of them just went on and on, and it made me feel great!

I will need to get some smaller clips like yours. I had some trouble making room for them. I also will need a little practice because I kept losing the hair before I could get the clips in.

I just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to post the photos!

I got my clips at Sally's. The biggest challenge for me is slipping them out without getting hair caught in them and causing breakage. I am getting better though.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I tried to replicate your method today and even though I didn't quite do it as well as you did, I still achieved some good volume on top. Yay!
Edited due to a cyberstalker. Sorry, guys.

Thank you. This is the best explanation of clipping I have seen. I haven't been doing it correctly and haven't been seeing good results. Now I know what to do!

A stylist recently gave me a great little tip about that - while you're pulling a clip out, keep opening and closing it quickly. Doing that keeps the tension coil moving and keeps hair from getting caught in it. It works surprisingly well!

Best tips I've read in a long time-your clipping method and the mention of keeping the clips opening and closing quickly while removing. Brilliant! Thanks!
