What is your Jessicurl routine?

I just got my Jessicurl products about a week ago and I'm still trying to find the right balance in using all the products - mostly Rockin' Ringlets and Confident Coils. But also the leave-in-over-night oil, the Cleansing Cream, and the Conditioner. I've found that I need to use regular poo at least once a week.

I love the results though, just still trying to find the best way to use them. Can anyone help?
Jessicurl products are one of my favourites, but I don't use them as much during the heat/humidity season. I used them alot from the fall to the spring. Here is how I use them:
  • HCC
  • Too Shea (use Denman brush and brush it through)
  • Rinse out completely
  • Use Weekly Deep Treatment as a leave-in (Denman to brush through). I don't need a lot, about a nickel's worth at most.
  • RR: I apply with my head tipped over first. I put in about a nickel to quarter's worth of RR. I do the sides first and then the rest of my hair. I then stand up and put in about another nickel's worth on the middle back of my head (I always miss this part of my hair if I don't apply it a second time standing up). I then tip back over and use my Denman brush to brush it through.
  • CCSS: I apply about a dime's worth to each side (tipped over) and then another dime to nickel for the rest of my head (still tipped over). I then stand up and put another dime's worth in the middle/back of my head. I tip back over and use the Denman brush to distribute it.
  • I normally plop my hair in a Curlease towel and finish drying off, putting lotion on etc.
  • I then remove the towel (5-10mins later) and diffuse.
  • For a mid day pick me up, I use Jessicurl's AIS. I spray it in and then crunch my hair.
I sometimes use the Soft Hair Oil to scrunch out the crunch. I am a total PJ, so I always have a lot of products on hand. I'll put a dab of oil into Blended Beauty's Silk Shake and scrunch out the crunch. It works really well. I will sometimes scrunch in some of the oil in the evening before bed. It really moisturizes the ends.

I have used the Jessicurl GLS and Aloeba products as well. The GLS is a nice alternative the odd time. I used to use the Aloeba as a leave-in before I read a recommendation for using the WDT as a leave-in. I much prefer the WDT as a leave-in. It really boosts the curl and prevents frizz.

I'm not sure whether you've already done this ... but have you checked out Jessicurl's website. She has some really good instruction videos on how to use her products.

HTH !!

Misfit Curls has a great routine for the RR and CCSS ---- let me know if you can't find the thread and I'll repeat what I found there.
FrizzBgone - thanks for the info. I'm going to try a routine similar to yours. By the way, how long is your hair? I find if I use too much product my hair feels terrible.

I'm still looking for MisFitCurls routine but I think I'm close to finding it.

And yeah, I've looked at the videos on the Jessicurl site and they really help.

Thanks.

I don't feel product-y when I use the Jessicurl the way I described, but try less if you're concerned. I find that I use more CCSS than she recommends. If I am going to use less of one product it is normally the RR. I don't find I need as much of it to boost my curl, but I need the hold of the CCSS. I think CCSS also boosts the curl.

in case you didn't find it yet...

i use generic biolage condtioning balm (From sallys 6 bucks for a decent size bottle) as a wash out conditioner, then smooth on aloeba/too shea (depending on how dry my hair feels) as a leave in (on soaking wet hair) then i rake in some rocking ringlets (on still wet hair) then scrunch with a microfiber towel and plop for about 15 minutes (long enough to get dressed and check email) then apply confident coils by scrunching it in and arrange any curls and then i air dry (i get frizz from diffusing)

i basically do it just like she does in the videos
(as seen here http://www.jessicurl.com/Demo-Videos-p-6.html)
only i add aloeba as a leave in and don't diffuse!
hope that helps!

i have also been using honey on top of my leave in to combat frizz

when i first started with JC products i also scrunched in a gel after the plop because the products didn't have enough hold... now for some reason i dont need it (could be cg, could be my hair "knows" what to do now?)

good luck!

Hi curlygirl81, misfitcurls routine (described above) worked really well on my hair! I never got JC products to work on my hair, but after misfitcurls explained how she got those beautiful curls using JC's products i just had to try again LOL.

And it worked!! Give it a shot!

Good Luck!

Anyway, thanks for all the advice. I'm going to try it. By the way, is there any other place to get a microfiber towel besides the Jessicurl site? I'd rather not wait for the shipping if I don't have to. Thanks.

i put the honey bear in the shower stream (on the bottom of the tub) while i shower to warm the honey
(or throw it in the bathwater if i am bathing)

if the honey is warm it is not sticky, plus i already have some leave-in on my hands after smoothing it down my hair and that helps too.

i rake/smoothe in my leave-in, then pour little puddle (dime maybe nickel sized?) in my hand and smooth that over the top of the leave in...
the only time my hair felt icky from honey was when i used it after conditioning, over the leave-in and as a styler (can we say overkill?)

try it on a weekend or at night if you are nervous but i promise it works fine!

on a funny note:
i saw a bunch of bees in my backyard while i was out there the other day and i avoided them like the plague thinking they might be upset that i was using all their hard work for a hair product!

My Jessicurl routine:
  • Too Shea (sometimes and comb it through with wide-tooth shower comb)
  • Nizoral shampoo (because I have to)
  • Put on shower cap, leave on until I'm done showering
  • Rinse out completely
  • CCSS: one blob, smoothed on, distributed throughout
  • RR: Two blobs smoothed on, scrunch
  • HE Set Me Up gel smoothed on (easy on top of head), scrunch
  • Cover with shower cap
  • I then remove the cap (5-10mins later) and diffuse partway "lazykerri" style*.
  • For morning or a mid-day refresher, use Jessicurl's AIS. I spray it into my hands and then smooth on and scrunch.
  • Sometimes I also use Too Shea as a leave in and/or the gel spray to help with frizz, but I never spray anything because I have extra-sensitive skin.
* modified pixiecurl method-- scrunch all of my hair into the cup of the diffuser and don't move it around much.

Right now, my hair is nearly waist length. However, I used this same routine when it was not quite so long.

Hope you find something that works for you!

HTH!
