How to add moisture to dry hair

I'm about to give up. My hair is really, really dry. When I pull a strand, it immediately snaps. I have done several DTs, including a hot olive oil deep treatment, added honey to my CO, shampooing only 1x week (over last month), have done ACV and honey rinses. I have done oil on dry hair over night. My hair just soaks it up and it doesn't seem to make a difference. My hair still feels like straw and I've got the fly-aways.

Any suggestions???

AOHR
Mop Top Shampoo or Eulence 1x week
KBB nectar leave-in with KCCC
Are you still using the conditioner in your sig? I just looked up the ingredients and it's got protein. So I'm guessing you have a protein sensitivity. Try switching to products without them and see if that helps. I just had to go through this, and it's working for me!

you know I saw that in the shower this morning....can you recommend a conditioner that DOESN'T have proteins in it? I can't seem to find one...

If you want a cheap one to try for the moment, Suave makes some good ones (except coconut and possibly vanilla... not sure on that one). I switched to the cucumber melon one and it's been working fine.

Here's a website that should help. I'm not sure how old it is, so definitely check ingredients.

Sophiemol, have you tried scrunching some aloe vera gel into your hair? It is the only thing that truly quenches my hair.

Just to jump in with a quick suggestion....
Have you changed the oil in your DT? My hair really loves shea butter oil and cocoa butter oils, and although my skin loves olive oil, it doesn't work great as a DT for me.

I think getting rid of proteins for awhile would really help too.
Growing out my curls. White hair, fine to medium texture but a lot of it. Low to medium porosity. Botticelli curls -- 2c/3a mix. My hair loves protein.
CG since '08.

Cleanser: (Summer) Beautiful Curls Nurturing shampoo or Kathymack's soap bars

Protein: CJ Repair Me
Styling products: (Summer) BB Styling Mudd

does your FOTE make your hair uber-crunchy?
2cFii-ish with 3a moments. Always subject to change.

Also, as well as the good suggestions already given, for me personally, I found the Mop Top shampoo to be very harsh. I love the Mop Top conditioner (but my hair loves protein), but my hair hated that shampoo, so you might want to try a different poo, too, and see if that makes any difference.

thanks for the ideas....unfortunately I have the suave coconut (and i see it has the proteins)...I have an aloe vera plant and I did use some of the gel straight from the plant one night and it didn't help. Maybe I should get some FOTE?

I do have some shea butter on its way and I thought I'd try an avocado DT...maybe just switch over to natural products? But in the meantime, I don't know what kind of conditioner to use on a daily basis...

darn it all. now i've got all this moptop!

I am not sure of all the ingredients, but would AOHR be an option for awhile? It is a heavier moisturizer and I like it in the winter or when my hair feels thirsty. And it works as a DT too.

I don't think there are proteins, but you should check before you buy it since I am not sure.

Definitely try the AOHR. It's what got me back to normal during protein rehab, and it is the only thing that can even overcondition me.
