What's a Pineapple?
ok, so YES, I am a newbie but what exactly is a "pineapple"? and how would you PLOP a Pineapple. I read some people do a "Plopped Pineapple" for second day hair?
on the same, but slightly different note, how do most of you do "second day hair".

A pineapple is just a high ponytail. Tip your head upside down, grab your hair and put a scrunchie around it at the top of your head. Your head will resemble a pineapple. It can be done with damp or dry hair. For a plopped pineapple, put a satin sleep bonnet, or a tee shirt, or a flour sack towel on your head. It keeps the curls tighter against your head. Some use it overnight to cut down on morning hair time, others use it for 2nd day hair, still others use it to get excess water out when air drying. It takes a bit of experimenting to see what works for you.
If you look at Boticellibabe or Whatsercurl's fotkis, they have pics of both pineappling and plopping.

I hope by using this thread, it will pop this back up.
Okay, I know what the pineapple is...and I have the proper loose scrunchy to use . Now, to make sure that I am doing this right, it is a loose ponytail VERY high up...like on top of your head...and I'm assuming that the longer bits just fall down around it? Or do you secure those? Years ago when I would blowdry then hot roller (what WAS I thinking), at night I'd do a pineapple, then divide it into 3 or 4 pieces, roll them around my fingers and use a bobby pin to secure it and had great big waves the next day (I used to be able to do anything with my hair..and did)
any suggestions?

You've got the right idea. Just let the longer pieces fall, no need to secure them. Some gals have liked doing two pigtails high up instead of the pineapple and have had better results. I was having great luck with Pineapples in the Summer and all of a sudden like everything else it doesn't work anymore. NOT A CLUE WHY, gotta blame it on the lack of Honey once again...

Try sleeping on a satin or silk pillowcase. The cotton can cause frizzies. Also if you have long hair I find it helps to secure with clips so it doesn't get too mussed.
If anyone wants to see a demonstration of plopping I did a video. I also show how I clip my hair, which was still long in the video.

I would post a picture of me pineappling as I have to do it every night but I am not too fond of embarrassing myself online.
Anyway, make sure the parts are well secured as the previous poster mentioned because any curls which are let flowing freely will rub against the pillow and therefore will mat. In fact, any time you rest your head somewhere (e.g car seat during long drives) you should be wearing a ponytail because curls are easily matted when friction occurs against another element.

Nice video. Cool flag you have on the background.
I have been considering recently putting up some videos sharing some information for other curly haired guys as there are none on Youtube. It will be a shock though as all the videos I have are of me doing my olympic weightlifting training but I think many guys with curly hair are not motivated to grow their curls because they do not see other men with long curls and wrongly associate it with femininity or being dirty.
Just thinking out loud as your video reminded me of this. Hair looking good by the way.

Yarrrr, matey, lol. I think that would be a great video on youtube. Doubtless, you would have to endure youtube trolls, but there's literally NOTHING out there. I know a couple boys with curls--one straightens them and one let's it go wild. If you made that vid, I would sent it to them, lol.

Haha, well might be giving it a try soon although I am dont have too much time on my hands these days. I certainly feel alienated as most men with long hair have straight or wavy hair. In any case I don't care being the odd 1 in 1000 guy, I like to be myself and embrace what I have. I'll let you know, might try making a quick video tomorrow and hopefully encourage other guys to grow their curls.
As for trolls, I will kindly invite them to check my training videos and perhaps they will take back their words and change their opinion about men wearing anything but short boring hair. In my own case, not one guy has dared to say anything negative about my long curls (on the contrary, I get compliments from guys) but I do know of other guys who get a lot of **** for wearing long hair. As long as it is clean and well looked after, it displays confidence which is an asset of masculinity. I am going off on a tangent, we have bank holidays tomorrow and Friday so our workload today is light.
Lastly, I could not help check your pics, don't straighten your hair again, you are beautiful with your curls. Trust me, if I am sure I have anything, other than curls, it is a good taste in women.
Take care.

The spaces between my videos on my channel go on for months... Thanks you for that last bit! I try, but it's so tempting to do just for fun. Buuuut I've come to the realization that my hair doesn't look as natural or as pretty. Also you and my BF are in agreement, so that settles things, lol.

soo lately, as my hair is getting longer (bsl) I've been doing my pineapple at night but I make it into a sloppy bun. All I need is a bone through it and I could be "Pebbles" from the Flinestones hehe. I was finding that my curls were getting crushed in just the regular pineapple. This loose sloppy 'pineapple' is working great. My hair keeps it's curl right through and the ends are a lot more full and bouncy in the morning. I do find I have a flat back when I pineapple but I'm able to fluff it up a bit.
Anyone else doing this as well with success?

I'm too afraid to try doing a pineapple. It sounds like a lot of people have great luck with it, but I can't imagine how it wouldn't leave an ugly dent!

I only pineapple on dry hair and with a scrunchy. I also make sure it is not tight. I spritz it with water, add some gel and get some sleep. In the morning it is awesome! You should try it when you have no where to go the next morning, in case you don't like it.

Just a suggestion, but if you have very long hair like me, and can't really do a true pineapple ( it I do just a ponytail my hair is still past my shoulders lol), you can do a funky bun with the ends sticking out (keeps them from getting smooshed) and use spin pins. No dents to speak of whatsoever, and it is pretty darn secure. Never tried it with an actual ponytail, but it might work. No dents are the beauty of spin pins!
