Well del-icious - I tried the wrong brush this morning.

Me thinks my hair might like to be brushed when nice and slippery and wet.

It'll be a couple hours before I know for sure. I've just diffused but so far, I like it more than any Day 1 hair I've had in the last couple months!!!

Method/products employed: Used my usual conditioner and brushed out the tangles. Then about a tsp of honey in a cup of water for my rinse. 4 puddles of CK brushed thru, 1 handful of CHS gel (thinking it's time for gel) brushed thru, the usual obsessive scrunching, plopped for 10 min, air dryed about half hour, then diffused for 5 min.

ETA: Oh and mims - no serious clumping issues.

So I tried this today and got really good hair! It's very voluminous (is that a word?) and has less ringlets, which can be very annoying. Some pieces on the underside did get a little fuzzy, but I think I just needed more gel. Oh and I haven't actually used the real denman yet--I used my mom's brush which is made by goody and looks like one--but now I guess I have to go pick one up. YAY!

I recently purchased a denman comb from ebay. Here are my results as posted from my hair blog. I wonder if anyone else had the same problem I did with the parting? Maybe it's because my hair is thin?

Yesterday, I decided to try the denman brush again since I was going to use gel. I did a full CO wash with SKR & NP and conditioned with OC. After letting the OC sit for a few minutes, I flipped my hair upside down and detangled as much as I could. I then gently detangled with the brush, which took awhile since my hair is so damn tangly. After I was done, I rinsed some of the conditioner out and used the brush one more time. I then styled as usual. The results were mixed. There were some things I loved and some things that were not good. I will list the pros and cons.

Pros:
- My hair was extremely curly. *It was so curly, that my hair looked uneven. I have different curl types in my hair, so there is no real uniformity and the brush definitely brought out the differences.
- My hair was full and had body. This was the best part of using the brush. I loved it.

Cons:
- When I finished plopping, there was a huge gap down the middle of my head. It was weird and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to fix it. This had happened before when I used a comb to detangle, but it wasn't as bad as this.
- After my hair was dry, I was scrunching out the crunch and trying to fix the gap. While I loved the fullness, my hair felt really fluffy in the middle and there were hardly any curls to speak of. The curls were mainly on the sides of my head.
- The middle part was very, very knotty and tangled. It's so bad, that I am going to have to rewash my hair today. I'm afraid that if I leave it, it will get worse.
* This part is a con because I wouldn't be able to wear my hair down.

So, I detangled as well as I could with my fingers. I'm going to use a little coconut oil, let that sit for a little and rewash. I'm hesitant to try this again because of the gap and how uneven my hair was. I just wish I could get that kind of body with something else.

I bought the brush at sally's the other day and used it and my hair was extremely frizzy and too curly. I have thick course 3b/c hair. I should have known =( it's okay though because i still have my studio 35 scalp brush that works awesomely.
3b/3c =) Finally loving my curls!
Anyone know anywhere besides Sally's that has them? I checked 2 Sally's yesterday and they didn't . . . .

25-30 years ago I used a Goody's brush that was just like this - came apart for cleaning, etc. But I was using it on dry hair back in the days when I straightened it with lye relaxer and then rolled on electric curlers to put controlled curl back in - yikes! - long before I ever let it curl naturally, and especially long before CG was ever heard of.

For anyone who might still have one of the old Goody brushes I mentioned earlier, it is exactly the same except for the color of the handle. Haven't seen them in the stores in probably 10 years, so don't waste your time looking for a current Goody's version.

Didn't wash/wet hair today, so haven't tried it yet . . .

Okay, DELicious and Whatsercurl, you've convinced me to pick up a Denman, too. I'd resisted the urge up to this point until I saw that the brush is on sale at Sally's. I've used a vent brush to brush through products, so we'll see if the Denman is any better - or worse! Keep your fingers crossed for me...

hi - trying not to lurk, which means, um, posting. eep.

i bought a denman d3 at sally's for $6.99 (yay!) and tried it out this morning. my hair length is just past my chin and it's 3b/a (more b than a). i brushed in a nickel's worth of leave-in and then brushed in about five spritzes of HE set me up. My hair looked a little stringy, so i spent some time kind of clumping the hair back together like i usually do, smoothing together the sections in the front and on top. the product distribution from the brushing was great, so this was fairly easy.

My hair dried super curly and extremely ringlety - it's pretty, but it's too much shrinkage for me at this length (about two inches shorter after brushing, which is a lot when you hair is only like six inches to start with!). My hair feels really soft now, but i think that might also be because i left in a little olive oil last night (first time that worked for me, i think it will be a good pre-shampoo ritual). The top of my hair was a little frizzy, but i think i might not have used enough gel, brushed, and then touched it a little too much (always a problem for me). it's tempting to brush too much because it feels really nice on my scalp. the brush caused no problems with pulling my hair out, thank goodness - my hair doesn't tangle all that much, and i had already combed my regular conditioner through.

i think the denman brush would be completely awesome on longer hair. and since i want mine longer, it's good incentive for me to be patient...i'll fool around with it a few more times and will report back if anything interesting happens...

would really like to try KCCC and KCCT, but the pricetag, ouch. I cannot add another $40 worth of product to my extensive product graveyard, sigh.

Glad you de-lurked jrobsf.

My hair is always shorter the first day I do it. Then lengthens out throughout the course of the week.

I'm told KCCC enlongates curlier hair. Maybe you could get some in a swap?

Hey-y'all have been drinking and talking Denman without me .... Hi, jrobsf...welcome ...I really don't use the KCKT, but I adore KCCC and the combo with the brush elongates and clumps curls for me... I started a thread way back on this somewhere... anyway, I think it's worth the investment, and it's probably quite swappable if you end up not liking it...

We have a Denman and there are three of us that fight over it. I use it to clump the back of my 3c daughter's hair. The hair in the back of her head leans toward frizz and separation (HIGHLY recommend a Denman for 3cs with that same problem!!!!!), and the Denman is unbelievably good at clumping that wild hair. My 2c daughter uses the Denman to untangle in the shower with her conditioner and I use it to untangle in the shower and now (since I'm trying to go CG myself....) I use it for product distribution, also. The Denman is invaluable in our house.

I need to buy two more.
