curious, why do yall do blowouts instead of flat ironing? blow outs are sooo much more work for me! flat iron takes me 1-2-3

Because straight out flat ironing gives me a straight pyramid, and there are still all kinds of kinks in the hair, like little wires.
A blow out followed by flat ironing just works better for me.

Thanks!
I can only get that smooth with blow dryer followed by a flat iron. My poor stylist got all sweaty doing it. I sure as hell can't do it. I'm tool stupid.

Empressri, what flatiron do you like? You hair is thicker than mine is, and your straight hair (and your curly hair) always looks so good in your vids.
I'm always amazed to see how people can use just a flat iron. My strands look like individual squiggly lines for some reason with just an iron.

Thanks! I have a sedu that I use immediately after taking my hair out of the braids (I airdry that way).
THEN because it's never fully straight the first go around, I'll use the solia, and this is usually after I've gotten my trim and on the second or third day.
Let me see, I had a friend in high school, who did she have hair like...hmmm sort of like Rudee's hair. I washed it for her, can't remember if I used the blowdryer, not doing it with a brush though, but I remember solely using a flat iron and it came out great! No crimps or anything left in her hair. That was the conair one that had the little steam compartment that you poured water into.

Thanks!
I think it's interesting that you use two high quality irons to do the job. I never would have thought of that.
I always wondered if was my hair texture or the flatiron that gave me the crimpy hair.
One time my stylist was unavailable, and so I went to a close-by salon and asked for a blowout. The woman just flat-ironed me, and it looked all crimpy even when she did it, and then I paid for it. Ugh. A few friends have tried to just iron it too with the same result. But, the friends were light wavies who may not have needed a hard core iron. Who knows. I've been iron shy ever since.
It's fun straight right now though. It's right at the top of my jeans, so the change in length feels so weird. I also like that I'll have a week of no maintenance hair.

I believe that truly coarse hair would react that way to just an iron, rcc. The act of blow drying with a brush is to heat the hair and "stretch" it. Applying high heat with an iron can then flatten it more efficiently.
My fine to medium hair required both to be really straight and not "swell" with the humidity. I could flat iron it alone and get it straight but blowing it out first got it really dry and then the flat iron smoothed it out beautifully.

I posted my straight vs. curly in another thread. I can go straight without using any heat (dryer or flat iron) and still staying CG.
how do you stop the straightening crave?

thanks! It's in kind of an awkward-growing-out stage right now, so I might have to trim it again to avoid a mullet!

Hey Aqua, I've done that before too, when I wanted a flip or something
However, I have fine and not much hair. I still have to blow dry AND use a flat iron to make it straight and STAY straight. I can just blow out and get a nice flip under, but my bangs will always wave back up if I don't use the flat iron. Like I've said before, the whole reason I found NC.com was looking for reviews of flat irons cause I was ready to invest in a high quality one. The clairol wasn't cutting it anymore lol.

Here we go! Straight was a few weeks ago...curly is today after starting CG. I seriously have not seen my ringlets YEARS!
I don't often straighten my hair, maybe 2-3 times a month, always carefully and with heat protection to minimize damage if I can. I like it both ways I think...

OMG! All your guys' hair look so awesome. Mine, right now is a wreck (only 3 more days of swimming!). I was looking at some pictures of me with straight hair.. and they look really bad...
Btw, how long does it take for most of you to straighten your hair? My hair takes hours.. it will almost never be worth it.

honestly, i find that some flat irons are just crappy and can put those horrid crimps in. crimpy and dull!!
yes that's the up of straight hair, you can brush it and go!! just have to be meticulous about keeping water away from it!! awww rcc, before i cut my hair was just a bit longer than yours straight. i can't wait to get back there! i want pocahontas hair!

maybe an hour, 2 at the most. the trick is to do it in sections and use a quality flat iron
