Thank you OperaCurl and JamaicaCurl! I do the color myself so I am very proud, the curls will be a work in progress but I am now very hopeful!

And the color took 2 yrs of BAD color at salons to finally get right, lol and only after learning how to do it myself. But at least I can only yell at myself if I do it wrong right?

Thanks!

I think it's interesting that you use two high quality irons to do the job. I never would have thought of that.

I always wondered if was my hair texture or the flatiron that gave me the crimpy hair.

One time my stylist was unavailable, and so I went to a close-by salon and asked for a blowout. The woman just flat-ironed me, and it looked all crimpy even when she did it, and then I paid for it. Ugh. A few friends have tried to just iron it too with the same result. But, the friends were light wavies who may not have needed a hard core iron. Who knows. I've been iron shy ever since.

It's fun straight right now though. It's right at the top of my jeans, so the change in length feels so weird. I also like that I'll have a week of no maintenance hair.

yes that's the up of straight hair, you can brush it and go!! just have to be meticulous about keeping water away from it!! awww rcc, before i cut my hair was just a bit longer than yours straight. i can't wait to get back there! i want pocahontas hair!

You'll get there again though!

For the time question, my stylist does mine and it's about 90 minutes on a good day.

I wish my curls could be so pretty. I have frizzy, damaged, undefined curls. And don't let my avatar deceive you, that pic was taken an hour out of the shower.

Type 3b/c hair

I find myself with less respect for those who straighten their hair constantly or have relaxers or whatever else is out there. I believe that if your hair is curly, wavy, or straight, your hair is beautiful as is. There are non-damaging solutions for frizz or split ends or whatever. You don't have to burn it flat or fry it with chemicals to look "good." People say love the skin you're in, same goes for hair.

From what I can tell, my hair loves protein, humectants, AND emollients. It hates humidity and being touched or flipped.
