Default Has anyone tried....

Olive Oil Treatment
Olive oil is one of the healthiest natural ingredients for hair that is extremely dehydrated and brittle. Curly girls with coarse hair, who historically have the hardest time keeping moisture in their hair, can greatly benefit from the following deep treatment on a monthly or twice-a-month basis (although this treatment is beneficial for anyone with dry hair):

Warm:

1/4 cup olive oil

Massage well into hair from scalp to ends, then cover with a plastic processing cap. Process for 30 minutes at room temperature, then cleanse hair with a non-sulfate cleanser. For added penetration, sit under a warm (not hot) dryer for 20 minutes.

Tip: you can buy a can of olive oil cooking spray (such as Pam®) and use it to spray lightly on hair for shine and frizz control. Be judicious, as you do not want to make yourself oily from using too much. Keeping the spray can at least 10 inches from your hair while spraying will also help to ensure any propellants will dissipate before reaching your hair.
I read it at this site, http://livecurlylivefree.com/home%20remedies.htm

I tried it when I first went CG. I didn't do it like what you posted. I just slathered it on till all my hair was coated, put it up and went to bed. I had a towel on my bed. The next morning I used the lemon concoction in the CG book to get rid of the excess oil. I was greasy for a few days but it felt very silky too.

My hair doesn't need that kind of moisture anymore but it did when I first started.

Don't know how I'd feel about spraying PAM on my head for frizz though. Think I'll stick to CK and Tweek.

My hair got greasy too, I now use it for my ends, and sometimes put a bit in my DT.

I love EVOO . I use it both as:
(i) an olive oil treatment; and
(ii) a DT with added conditioner.

I love EVOO as well--it's in my hair right now.

I usually use it as a DT every Saturday while I watch football and grade papers. I warm about 1/4 cup olive oil and add 10 pumps of my Kirkland Signature hydrating conditioner from Costco (a little more olive oil than conditioner). I mix it all together with a fork and slather it on dry hair. Then I whip it up in a bun, toss a shower cap on, and let it sit for at least 8 hours (or whenever I shower for the night). I usually work out before my shower, so I consider that my "heat."

It always comes out with just a co-wash. I've also used it without the conditioner, but it rinses out better with conditioner in it, too. My hair is like silk afterward, and I've never had any problems with it being oily/greasy.

The PAM idea grosses me out a little, but keep us updated if you try it.

Hi Curly G,

Just as Sarahthewarrior says, my hair too is not greasy at all. I do it once a week. I mix 2 tbs of EVOO with 1&1/2tbs of conditioner (but right now it contains a cone). But I'll remedy that very soon.

I'll talk about my last time:

(i) I washed my hair with water and massaged my scalp as if there was shampoo on it.

(ii) Plopped hair with cotton t-shirt for 5 mins to get damp hair.

(iii) I left DT for about an hour in a hot towel which cooled down in less than 2 mins.

(iv) I just washed it out with water(I didn't want to do a co-wash with the cone in).

NOTE: I am not a complete CG yet. Soon will be when I will get my products.

I'll try the heated EVOO with conditioner and sleep with it on my hair to see if there is a difference.Usually I sleep with hot EVOO on dry hair once a week.

Hope that this works for you too.

Try my method and Sarahthewarrior's method separately to see if there is a difference. Everyone's hair is different. You can also invent a new routine that really works for you Curly G. Let me know the outcome please.

How did you apply it? I generally just smooth a little over the top of my head and put the bulk of the mixture on the length (just like conditioner in the shower). If you put too much on top or combed a lot from the root through damp hair, that could explain the greasiness. Try to avoid getting too much so close to your scalp next time.

I'm sorry i answered so late sarahthewarrior. But actually i did alot of the evoo on the scalp vs. the ends. I guess that really explains the greasyness.
Like Estelle said i have to try different ways of putting it on my hair and different mixtures. Thanks alot guys for all your help
