Default Used Loving Care (6-12 poos) and my hair texture is funky now. Help!

Hey ladies. I have been au natural CG since June, and was loving my curls. Letting them grow, everything great. But, my grays were getting a little much, but I didn't want to permanently color. So, I tried Clairol Loving Care (figuring it washes out in 6-12 shampoos and since I rarely even poo anymore (low poo at that), I thought it would be perfect. Although I liked the color, it just left my hair with a funky, chick puff kind of textured hair. Hair wouldn't hold ringlets (even with CK) very well. I did my regularly scheduled shampoo (Devacare Low Poo) 24 hours later, deep conditioned....did the same thing the next day.....left it alone and water washed for a few days. Still yuck. I finally caved and used Nexxus Therappe 'poo (sulfates and all), wash, rinse, repeat and deep conditioned. Trying to just get the stuff out of my hair so I can get back to normal. Any other suggestions? For improved texture again, and any future color options?

I've never used that color product, does it contain ammonia or peroxide? Even (especially) if not, it could just be coating your hair too much and gunking it up, for lack of a better word.

I would suggest you try a gentle color that won't buildup or freak out your hair: Color by Robert Craig.

It can be permanent, depending on how long you leave it on. But it is so gentle, it's OK to use as a permanent to cover or blend gray. I have used it for over 13 years or so, and my hair is in excellent shape. Just be sure to choose a color about 3 shades lighter at first, so you don't get too dark (our curly hair tends to grab the color and get darker). You can read tons of info on it on the Haircolor board. LMK if you have any Qs about it.

Oh, I like your name.

Default Thanks, Curlilocks. Like your name too. I actually

have been checking out RC lately. I think if I can get my hair back to normal, that will be the next thing I try. I think you're right. I'm overly gunked. Not to mention, I had read a lot about leaving it on longer (the Loving Care) to make sure it covered gray. I was overly gunked! My texture seems much better today even though I had to resort to sulfate poo. Oh well, I can get back on track. Thanks for your input. I am 'Asking Karin' at RC about color selection, and if I can put it only at my temples, etc. We'll see! Thanks again!

Maybe try an ACV rinse, it may remove the buildup too.

LMK what Karin says for color. I'm pretty good at helping with that too!
