What does this mean?
Last night, I mixed up 2T EVOO, 4T conditioner and 1T raw honey with a few drops of essential oil. I left this mixture on my hair overnight. When I got up to wash it out, it felt like it needed conditioner. I figured I would have to shampoo bar repeatedly, but this was not the case. I just use conditioner mixed c lemon juice and then ended up using 3 times my normal amount of leave in just to get some slip. Did this dry my hair out or is my hair so dry that I need to do this a lot more often?
My hair is baby-fine 3a

Well, it depends on which conditioner you used. If it was a protein rich one that you rarely use, I would guess that you're protein sensitive. If it's your normal conditioner, maybe your hair reacts badly to oils. It also may be too dry where you live for the humectant properties of the honey to do you any good - it may have drawn moisture from your hair instead of the air...but that usually happens once your hair is dry.
I'm just throwing stuff out there - I really am stumped!

I used KBB which is my norm. My curls turned out pretty nice, but they just didn't last.
PS Please give me your hair, it is gorgeous.

If you've been using the KBB products on a regular basis for a while, you hair shouldn't be dry--they are VERY moisturizing. I haven't felt the need to DT since I started to use them. I do use at least one everyday.
Have you ever done your overnight DT with those ingredients? I'd think your hair didn't like something in the DT.

It could be the lemon juice, some find it drying.
Or maybe something in the DT.

Aww thanks!
Yeah - I second what KM said - I bet your hair didn't really need that DT! My KBB samples should be arriving today...I can't wait!!

My hair reacts to some oils the same way -- ends up feeling really dry.

The lemon juice did make it drier, but it was dry to begin with. Do you think I should try a protein treatment? I cannot seem to find a way to make my curls hold.

If you used KBB milk it has wheat germ which acts like a protein and glycerin which can dry me out because I live in a dry climate.

When I went to look for ingredients, there are several L'oreal Mega Hold gels. Some had dimethicone, some had PEG-dimethicone. You need to review the ingredients to see what you are using. They all have tons of chemicals. If you have cones in your hair, you definitely have build up. Cones coat the hair shaft and prevent moisture from penetrating. You may need a protein treatment, it's hard to know--but they are also drying.
I see you have the CV bars. (I know you just got two from me, LOL) When I used a CV bar it made my hair dry and frizzy--really awful. I attribute that to the castor oil. My hair does not like castor oil and I need to low poo to remove it, even if it is saponified in a soap/shampoo bar.
If I were you, I'd look to make sure the gel doesn't have cones. If it has cones, you need to clarify. If it doesn't have cones, I'd do a low poo--just to have a cleaner slate. The bars are very mild and won't remove the other CG ingredients. I'd also look at the ingredients on the CV bars, if they have castor oil--I'd use them on my body and not my hair until you find out if that's causing your problem. Use the KBB products, they are natural and the best. I don't see a curl creme or curl enhancing product??? You may want that. I'd switch to a gel that is more natural--maybe one of the Aubrey Organic or ABBA ones. See if a more natural approach works for you and eliminate some of the products/ingredients that may be causing you problems. If you have success, you can build on it.

What was I thinking when I bought this?! I have some FOTE that I have not tried. I will clarify c a low poo and try FOTE instead. Can you recommend a good curl enhancer? KCCC does not work at all for me. This seems like a silly question, but it is sincere. How can you tell if your hair is dry or damaged? I am just assuming mine is because until CG I was a daily high heat blowdry and curling iron.

The FOTE helps a lot of people with curling. I found it producty if I used it with something else. Not sure if you'll get hold. Other than KCCC, I use the Curls by Sister's Smith WSP and Innersence QCCC. I just started to use some products by Donna Marie, but posted this morning and I understand that they are sold out of a lot of things.
I never heat styled, so I can't answer you question. Does it break? You've reported dryness. Do you trim/cut frequently? You can get it back. You just have to want to do it.

My hair seems to be breaking a lot since I started CG. It may have always broke this much, but I am much more hair obsessed than I was before CG. So maybe it was breaking then and I just didn't notice it. I will keep trying until I find the routine that works for me. I really want beautiful bouncy curls that are easy to get and easy to maintain. I am going in for my first haircut in over a year on Oct. 31 and am afraid I will allow it to become a BC. I will try some of the other curl enhancers you mentioned. Is FSG worth making and trying?

Don't know what your hair looks like, since there are no pictures. The more damaged hair you remove, the better. Don't take off so much that you're unhappy. Go in stages. My hair grows quickly, I used to get it cut every five weeks. Now sometimes I go six. Your goal should be getting it healthy. The healthier the hair, usually the curlier. It's also learning about what works for you--both product and technique.
Read the threads for ideas. I was reading a thread that the KCCC doesn't work on relaxed hair. Maybe you hair was too damaged for it to work. Flax is okay, it works for some. It's cheap enough to see if it works for you.

I was just suggesting that the damaged portions might react in a way similar to chemically relaxed hair.

I never thought of that. I bet that is what is going on. Since my hair drank the oil, I am going to try a protein treatment (decided this after visting StruttersWife website). I am going to try your shampoo bar in the AM. I will let you know.
