Protein product confusion!!
I had what appeared to be a protein reaction about a week and a half ago - it suddenly went completely dry, harsh, strawlike, feeling scratchy and horrible even when I was in the shower.
Someone mentioned that the Biolage Conditioning Balm I was using had protein in it, so I stopped using that and the V05 extra body conditioner that I'd been using occasionally (just in case) and just switched to cowashing with the v05 vanilla mint tea conditioner. My hair is now almost fully recovered.
However, I've noticed a couple people recommending the Biolage as a DT to people who've had bad protein reactions as a good way to repair it. Does the Biolage Conditioning Balm have protein or not? If it doesn't, what on earth could I have had that reaction to?

Oh, wait, it turns out the V05 extra body conditioner has collagen in it, which is definitely a protein. Still, is the Biolage safe or not? I've had people on the forums tell me both ways...
Thanks

Water, Propylene Glycol, Myristyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Decyl Oleate, Rosemary Extract (Rosemarinus Officinalis), Goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis), Algae Extract, Chitosan PCA, Quaternium 79 Hydrolyzed Keratin, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance
I use it occasionally as a DT, and it doesn't bother me - I must be OK w/some keratins like Redcelticcurls, but I have to be careful of other proteins.

Thanks! The fact that I was using two things with proteins explains why it was so bad...

My Biolage conditioning balm does not have any protein in it, not the hydrolyzed keratin anyways, which my hair hates. (It does have algae in it.) Is this something they have just added recently, has there been a reformulation?

IDK - I copied the ingredient list from drugstore.com since my actual jar was at home. This is the Biolage Conditioning Hydrating Balm, not the Ultra-Hydrating Balm. Maybe yours is the latter? Or maybe the ingredients are incorrect on the website, although I've found them to be very accurate in the past.
Biolage could, of course, have changed them since it was posted or since you bought yours.

Ok, thanks.
I have both and checked both, and neither have it. But as you say, they could be older. Dang, I loved the conditioning balm because it didn't have protein.

Okay, here's the ingredient list on mine.
Water, propylene glycol, myristyl alcohol, cetrimonium chloride, cetearyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, parfum fragrance, propylparaben, hexyl cinnamal, rosmarinus officinalys/rosemary leaf extract, canadensis/golden seal extract, fucus vesiculosis/bladderwrack, methyl-2-octynoate
Aside from the fact that it's very chemical-y...is any of that protein?
