Default 2nd Day hair...am I the only one that cannot get it?

Re-wetting does not work at all for me no matter how many times I've done it. That means I have to re-do it everytime I go out. What a pain. Does anyone else have this problem? It takes forever to dry and I do mean forever!!! Does anyone ever go out with almost dry hair and scrunch crunch later? How do you control frizz?
By golly I tell you that I am gonna get this if it kills me I just think I need greater learning curve!! Any suggestions?

I don't get 2nd day hair. But I am a morning shower person...my hair does not take that long to do and I work from home so I just 'do' it everyday. But I have done that my whole life - I had never even heard the term 2nd day hair until joining this site. My hair is fine and my curls are wimpy/lazy so my best hair is 1st day hair. 2nd day is a baseball hat sneaking to get a coffee before I shower.

I should add that I do not really try to get it either. I just know I won't be happy with how it looks so it's one thing about curly hair I don't stress.

you're not alone, lots of gals have trouble getting 2nd day hair. Some spritz and plop, others just add some condish to dry hair after spritzing or on dry hair. It takes a lot of experimenting and reading the threads to figure out what works for you.

Thanks. I have always showered at night so trying to shower again in the am is maddening. However, I would have a frizzy mess if I did it at night. I guess the answer to all of this is chill and just do what I need to do to get the hair of my choice even if that means "re-washing" etc. because rewetting does not work.

Rewetting DOES work for some gals. Some do a Water wash saves a little time there, others can literally spritz, Plop and Go maybe diffuse a little. You just need to experiment that's all

I never get second day hair, no matter what I try. I exercise alot so I feel I always have to do my hair everyday. I am really fascinated by the fact that so many here get 2nd day etc....

I've had the best luck when Re-Wet to use a drop of KCKT and some KCCC, Plop Diffuse.

On my little girl's 3A/2B all I have to do is Spritz and put some GLI comb out her tangles and she has beautiful curls. NOT ME

I'm equally fascinated that not everyone does. Guess it's just like product that works for some and doesn't for others.

peaceplease: pineappling is the only way I get multiple day hair. When I used to sleep on my hair loose, I had to re-wet every day.

I pineapple, then in the morning I scrunch a ton of water into my hair until it is uniformly wet. Then I scrunch conditioner in it. It's all about the scrunching for me

I can't get 2nd day either. Wonder if it has to do with whether your hair is fine or coarse?

My hair is very fine, and even though it is quite wavy/curly in the morning after I've just washed and styled it, I lose the curl very easily. When I wake up the next day, even if I have pineappled etc, my hair is all over the place - frizzy, straight in places, curly in others, flat bits... you name it.

Those who get good 2nd day hair - like whatsercurl and del2c - seem to have thick and coarser hair, which holds the curl much better.

del's hair is coarse. Mine is actually quite fine and only medium thick. However, my curls do not pull out easily in wind or rain. They can take quite a beating

If there's a way to boost resiliency through diffusing, curl enhancers, or any other product that may help.

That's an interesting observation. My hair is too short to pineapple. I wake up the same way. I've always felt that I'm too much of a perfectionist, too.

IMO whether you "achieve" second day hair or not depends on two things, Your curl/hair type and your expectation.

I have a tight, 3B corkscrew curl and medium textured hair. When I pineapple, it stays on top of my head when I take the scrunchy out. My curls get flattened when it is down and a spray bottle or products will even things out but the curl is never as uniform as when it gets completely wet down and restyled.

I am too much of a perfectionist to go with my second day hair unless I have to.

Another perfectionist here. I don't even try to second day hair. I would probably spend more time trying to revive second-day hair than just starting over every morning.

Exactly my thoughts and issues when I have tried. For some reason when I try to revive my hair - it just goes frizzy. Easier just to do it every day and not have the frustration level. And I do think there is something to the fine/coarse, thin/thick hair thought above. My hair can lose it's curl very easily - just pulling it back can straighten the section that is pulled back. And my length is such that I cannot pull it up but I know if I did the area that was pulled up would be straight and just the ends of the pineapple would be curly (most likely frizzy/curly after sleeping on it). I just think some hair cannot be revived by any type of method.

Exactly my thoughts. The few times I've attempted '2nd day hair' it took me almost as long as it would have to just rewet it int he shower and start over. Plus it never looked nearly as good!

Now, the few times a year I straighten my hair.... I'll go a good 3 days without washing it! ( I still shower, I promise )

2nd day hair? What the heck is 2nd day hair? Such a thing cannot be possible.

Being sarcastically bitter of course.

My hair never looks as good the 2nd day as the first, and it's just a matter of degree.

The solution to this is a braid or ponytail, of course.

I agree with LoloDSM, I know I would spend more time trying to get my 2nd day hair to look good that I figure I might as well just start over each day.

This happens to me too! I thought I was the only one... but I'm glad to know I'm not alone. To counteract this, headbands have become my best friend - I use them to cover up my limp, not wavy roots on the second day. Third day I use them to keep the flyways at bay while my hair is in a ponytail (This is what I'm doing now - I should take a pic for my fotki).

What frustrates me is that I used to go 2 or more days between washes, having nice results for the duration. This was BEFORE I went CG. For awhile I was thinking of going back to sulfates and cones - but then I saw a picture of myself pre-CG and realized that I have much curlier expectations now. So, like someone above mentioned, I agree that 2nd day hair has a lot to do w/ what you expect yourself to look like.

On the subject of thick vs. thin and thick vs. fine - how do you know what you have? I have a lot of hair, so I would say I have "thick" hair - but how do you know if the individual strands of your hair are thick or fine? I once tried to use the FIA system to figure this out, but it didn't really make sense to me.
