Why does it have to be so hard?

I'm usually just a lurker here, picking up tips and advice. But lately my hair has been driving me nuts and I'm just sick of it.

I went CG a year ago after I dislocated my wrist and found it too difficult to blow dry it straight. I liked the way it looked curly, found this site, got a Deva cut, and have been wearing it curly since. But the past few months have been such a struggle. Part of the reason I went curly was it was easier - I hated spending over an hour drying my hair straight. But now I think I actually spend more time trying to get it curly. I have to wet it, if not wash it, every day to get it to look decent. It's been stringy and frizzy. I've been trying for years to grow it long (now it's finally a few inches past my shoulders dry). But now I think I"ll have to get it cut in order for it to look good again.

Last week I had an interview, and I dried it straight for the first time, simply so I could have more control over it looking good. I was actually able to go a week without washing it. It was so nice to do that, not worry every day about what I'm going to put in it. I'm debating wearing it straight for the winter, simply for a change. But I've done so much to get it healthy. I can go 6 months without a cut now, instead of every 6-8 weeks. I don't want to ruin it again. I just want to have pretty hair, is that too much to ask?

A lot of us have found that by using more natural products we're getting the best curls ever! My hair has always grown fast. I get a cut every six/seven weeks to keep it always looking good. You may not need to go that frequently, but maybe more than every six months might help you keep it looking good.

Stringy and frizzy sort of sounds like build up or too much product.

What is your routine and what do you use?

I cowash with Vo5 Vanilla Mint Tea and condish with Too Shea, using a wide tooth comb to comb it through. I use SheaM as a leave in and then I either use JC RR and CCSS or KCCC. Sometimes I use CK, sometimes I don't. Then I'll plop for about 10 minutes, then diffuse.

You could be having problems from the magnesium sulfate in the Jessicurl products. After about a week, her products left my hair limp.

During the winter the high glycerin content in CK could be pulling the moisture out of your hair. Maybe just stick with the co-wash, TooShea, and KCCC?

My hair can't get enough moisture. Using mag sulfate and glycerin in large amounts or daily will cause dryness/frizziness almost definitely.
