How to get 2nd day hair?????????????
HELP!!! so i have chin length 3a/3b (closer to 3b) and i've really been wanting to get second day hair because getting up and having to catch the bus with wet hair is not a very pleasent thing (for me or my hair...freezing) however i have problems plopping as the shorter pieces of hair straighten because of the plop, which is very weird to look at....anyway long story short, does anyone with short 3b hair have any tips for getting 2nd day hair?
currently my hair ends up looking like a disheaveled fro when i wake up...so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I would recommend doing a search on the board for this topic - it's covered frequently.
I slop in a leave-in for second-day hair, but my hair type is different than yours. As short as yours is, I don't suppose you would benefit from pineappling overnight (did you mean that instead of plopping?). Perhaps a satin pillow case would help?

i have a satin pillowcase which doesn't really help, i think im a crazy sleeper hence the crazy bed head in the morning...no i meant plopping (like after wetting and detangling my hair in the morning) no pinappling wouldn't work for me i can barely get a ponytail in my hair at the back, on top would only have a tiny bit of hair in it, thanks anyway

This moves away from the second-day hair idea, but are you entirely opposed to diffusing? I use the cold setting on my dryer to pixie-curl so I'm not out in wet hair.
If you're a really crazy sleeper, I don't know that there's anything that'll recapture your curls without re-wetting. I hope I'm wrong and someone has some better ideas! Like I said, I use a leave-in to help my second-day. Maybe Tweek? I've never tried it, but some people are fans.

im not a super crazy sleeper, but i do get bed head...i'm not completely against using a diffuser its more i forgot it at my house at school and i have to wet my hair in the bathroom sink when i'm at school so i'd kinda like to minimize that, cuz its kinda gross haha

My hair is just about the same length as yours and similar curls. When I try to get 2nd day hair, I try to sleep with my hair on my pillow instead of against my head/face. When I wake up that morning I look at the curls to see if my curls are still formed. Even if they look crazy, as long as they're still clumped I can fix it.
I spritz all over with water and smooth some LOOB over, then I scrunch. Right before I leave for the day I blast my hair with a diffuser for a few minutes to get extra volume.
What products are you using? Maybe you need something with stronger hold to get through the night.

I have short 3a hair and can get 2nd day hair consistently when I use KCCC or KMF Upper Managment Gel the first day. On the second day I spritz my hair with water or run my damp hands through my hair in the shower to get it slightly damp...once I'm out of the shower I try to arrange my hair a bit and recreate a bit of a part. Once it's mostly dry I smooth and scrunch a little FOTE aloe very gel in and let if finish air drying. It sounds like a lot but it's not since it's barely damp from the spritzing or shower steam...just enough to moisture to encourage the curls to reform.

i haven't fully gone CG yet, i was waiting to get some money before i bought any more products, right now my shampoo and conditioner aren't CG, but my styling products are, i have HESMU gel and LOOB, i don't have a credit card so i can't buy anything online, so if you have any recommendations of products that can be bought at a drugstore or beauty supply store...i'll definitely try what you do and see if it works for me, i'm going CG next week so we'll see then

I don't use HESMU gel but I do use LOOB. For second day hair after it or any other styling products, I turn my head upside down and mist the underlayers lightly with 50/50 aloe and water. Straighten up and do the same with the rest of it. Scrunch it through to re-encourage the curls, place a few clips in the top for lift, diffuse a little. Put make-up on and then diffuse more if not dry enough to go outside. Remove clips. Let it 'rest' while I drive to work if I can. Then scrunch out any crunch and do a little arranging as needed in the rearview mirror.
My hair's longer than yours and I can neither plop nor pineapple well at this length. Nor could I re-wet it at the bathroom sink - no control over the amount and placement of water. You need a spray bottle, less than $1 at any drugstore, Wal-Mart, etc. You can also buy Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel at most of the same (I also scrunch in additional AVG sometimes, too if any area needs extra help).
I can do this over and over for several days unless the roots start looking dirty, especially if I put it up the last day or two (see my trick for doing it with shorter hair here: what do you use to pull your hair up? scroll down until you see my avatar. Don't try to get it too perfect - let those little curls escape)
Hope some of this helps.

I can buy both FOTE aloe vera gel and Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel at my local Longs drugstore but I think you should be able to find them at either a typical discount drugstore or health food type store.

In the US it can be found at most any drugstore, discount stores like Wal-Mart and Target and at a lot of grocery stores. Check with both the lotions and with sunscreens and tanning products if you have trouble finding it. It's often on the bottom shelf, I find. I've been using the same 20 oz. bottle of FOTE since midsummer and it's still half full. It only cost about $3 initially, so I'd call that a bargain, especially since I also use it on my scalp, face, and for the occasional burn.

My hair is about the same length as yours, but only 3a. I recently figured out how to get good second day hair. It turns out best for me when I wash the night before (yeah, maybe not true second day hair, but it keeps me from having it really wet in the am), do my normal routine (which includes diffusing so I don't go to bed with a wet head), but don't SOTC - go to bed with the crunch - it helps hold things in place. I also put in a very thin cloth headband before going to bed because if I don't, I'll wake up with my hair EVERYWHERE - and won't be able to convince it to stay out of my face unless I want to clip it back. (I've also been successful just putting the headband in day old hair and waking up with it ok - but this only works if I had a spectacular hair day the day before) When I wake up, I take out the headband and mist it with water and a little bit of L'Oreal Tightly Wound. I actually just use an old bottle of tightly wound - when it got to the point where there wasn't enough gel to spray easily, but still had a quite a bit in the bottom, I just filled the bottle up about half way with water, shook it, and now this combination works wonders for my second day hair. I'm not sure if adding some of a different gel to a spray bottle with some water would work too. If you're looking for cheap products that you can get locally, check out what's in my signature - I haven't ever ordered products online and the most expensive product I've bought has been $8 bottles for giovanni conditioner (which I actually found for BOGO so it was really only $4/bottle)

so using a spray bottle is fairly equal to rewetting hair in the morning? cuz i've rewet my hair every morning for the past 5 years or so, and it gets to be a pain especially in the winter when my hair freezes

I wouldn't say it was equal to re-wetting the hair. You are only misting it to hydrate/refresh the curl and reactivate the product that is already in the hair. A quick shot with a diffuser or a few chores around the house in the morning would dry your hair in no time.
IMO, second day hair is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think my curls look best if I give them a full bath. If I don't, my hair will be up in a ponytail or in a headband or scarf for the day.

They may be ugly, but satin sleepcaps can be helpful.

It also helps to lower your expectations for 2nd and beyond day hair. My wavy curls are usually a bit looser and frizzier as the days go by, but a good 1st day is necessary. I pineapple then plop into a satin sleep bonnet - yes, I look like a dork. But I usually get 2nd and 3rd day hair with a minimum of fussing in the morning.

I mostly just wet my hands, smooth them over the top of my hair, then run my wet fingers through my hair (after I put my scrubtop on). I can scrunch after that, but most recently, I've been dipping a finger in Boots Curl Creme up to the first joint, then emulsifying the creme in my hands, running it over the top of my hair then through it, and scrunching upside down. When I straighten up, I rearrange any locks hanging down in my eyes, or if needed on top to keep from having my hair divide in the middle.
When I finish my morning routine, my hair is generally only slightly damp. I try to keep my hands away from it until I get to work, but sometimes scrunch out the crunch on the way. It seems to be working fine.
I've found that there's a certain feel to my hair when everything's just right, though I haven't figured out how to describe it (to myself or anyone else). I can feel that it's clumping in locks that are the right size (or not, and if not, I repeat the raking and scrunching a bit), and that it's got more body or resistance to it than it would as bare, naked hair. With the Boots, I can actually see the curl springing back where the weight of the moisture (or the strange things that happen to it when I'm asleep) have pulled or flattened it out, which gives me more confidence that it's going to turn out well. I think before I got that and started using it for multi-day hair I may have been over- or under-doing my attempts to revitalize the curl. I also like AG re:coil, but for first day hair; it seems to up the volume too much for multi-day hair for me, but perhaps that's because it doesn't come in a container that lets me dip a finger in and/or because it's thicker.

I have 3a hair, but i think this product works for anyone.
Beyond the Zone Noodle Head Curl Activator (spray).
Wow! I think what it does is add moisture and give some life to 2nd day (or any day) curls.
Also:
Do you pineapple? If you don't, I would SERIOUSLY consider it. For me, any other way of sleeping with my hair kills my curls.
Hope this helps!

All hair is different - mine hates Noodle Head Curl Activator, LOL. It makes it a crispy mess that won't scrunch out.
Her hair is probably too short to pineapple - mine is and it's longer than hers appears to be.
