I was reading the instructions on mexus emergencee and it says to wash hair before and after treatment. Do you all co wash or use shampoo?
Thanx for you help.

I haven't cowashed since Aug, 08 and rarely use shampoo. I use a natural/organic soap bar to cleanse every three days. I rinse and use the professional Emergency. Only end with a soap bar cleanse if it's the day I would usually do it.

I think my hair has a low porosity, though I'm not sure yet. If that's the case, that would mean my hair PROBABLY doesn't like protein, right? My hair's very wet right now so I don't want to touch it, but I'll try that strand test later.
I'm wondering because I had my friend's mom who is a certified beautician dye my hair almost black this August (I've never bleached) and it felt kind of rough for a few weeks.
But I remember hearing somewhere that if you go DARKER you're actually coating your hair with protein and it should feel softer, but mine just kind of felt like straw for a few weeks. But I wasn't sure if that was the protein or ammonia.. I haven't dyed it since August but am thinking of redying it this December... but maybe getting semipermanent black instead.

Thank you, kathymack!

My hair felt really soft and kinda fuzzy after the treatment. The BRHG didn't seem to do its job, either. I think the problem was the magnesium sulfate in the Aphogee. I'm not going to use it again. I'll see if I can get to Ulta and find the Nexxus Emergencee or one of the other protein treatments mentioned in this thread.

This evening, I washed with the Suave Coconut condish and followed my usual routine. Hope it's better tomorrow!

How long did you keep the treatment on your hair? Did you use heat? I have the nexxus emergencee but havent done it yet...kind of leery.

Hipwizard, I washed with JC conditioning cleanser, then blotted the hair, saturated it with the Aphogee, and used my hand held dryer to dry it. Not really sure how long it took. Then rinsed and applied the deep conditioning treat ment which I left on for about half an hour.

My hair is low porosity and has never met a protein it doesn't like. It's more the texture that is an automatic with whether or not your hair likes protein. Fine hair usually loves protein, medium is a little more picky as to what protein and coarse hair is only on occasion and is VERY picky about what protein you use.

This is off the top of my head, it's been a while since I've used these products. The instructions on the Emergencee says a few minutes in the shower. I think I've put it on damp hair and left it in 10+ minutes. The Nexxus Aloxxi Emergency says 10-20 minutes, I think.

Here's a link to the product review I did on the three Nexus protein treatments:

Thank you, kathymack! That tread is very helpful, and I've bookmarked it. In hindsight, I should have ordered the Nexxus, but I thought I could find it in a store more easily since I see Nexxus products at the grocery store.

I'm very careful with protein treatments. A lot of them contain ingredients I don't want to put in my hair--like mineral oil.

Same here. I just had to return the Aphogee 2-minute Reconstructor I bought yesterday because it has mineral oil and a cone. I can deal with a cone but mineral oil is the devil as far as my hair is concerned! I'm usually diligent about reading ingredients before I buy but, for some reason, this time I wasn't. That won't happen again!!

Default nexxus emergencee

Well, I tried it today. Think I left it in for approx. 5 min maybe less. Then put conditioner in and left it on for 1 hour (used garnier triple protein therapy). Then used my matrix biolage for a leave in.
My hair is extremely soft but I have a lot of fly aways. Not really frizzy. I usually have very defined pincurls but today after the treatment there are curls but more than usual and more puffy...not sure how to describe it.
But will see how it goes in the next day or two.

Where did you find the Nexxus Emergencee? I looked for it at Ulta this afternoon, and they didn't have it. Would a salon carry it?

Yes, msgiblet, I agree with you about the Aphogee 2-minute reconstructor! I was not happy at all. Besides the cone, it has magnesium sulfate which my hair HATES. I used it Friday evening. Re-did my hair last night with my old routine, and it's looking better today.

Should I try another protein treatment before coloring my hair Wed.? One that works, I mean?

I buy most of those types of things online. Some people have found the Emergencee in local drugstores. CurlMart carries the Elucence product--which I'm liking more and more. It's moisturizing, so you don't have to do a moisturizing DT.

Is there another word for mineral oil? Because I can't seem to find where it says that, but I know that there are many ingredients listed that I have no idea what they are.

Here is the list:

Wow, maybe I was looking at the wrong thing. I'll have to go back and check.

Thank You!

Ouidad - I tried their products and liked them for the first couple washes, but by the end of the bottle, it was frizzy and dry. I had my hair bleached on the ends (ombre) at the same time. After reading this thread, I'm wondering, does Ouidad have a lot of protein? Does this mean I have too much now? I know I need moisture from the bleaching. But, should I also expect that maybe my hair doesn't like the protein either?
