Spill the beans! Tell me how you use Lustrasilk

Yeah, I got a little free sample of that last time I ordered from Sally's. I was so excited about it, esp when I smelled it - it smells wonderful. But out of the 7-8 ingredients, I think the first 5 are silicones. So, it's sitting unused in my cabinet!
3A with some bits of 3B; fairly porous, I think (bumpy strands!), growing out old dye damage. No chemical treatments/color since 06/2010.

I saw someone post on (I think?) the 3a board about an Argan oil version of Lustrasilk coming out. Anyone try it yet? I love argan oil but can't get past the smell in my hair - it smells kinda like peanut oil. I love to cook with it but I can't get myself to wear it out of the house, lol.

After a month of CG adventures and only getting only 4-5 "good hair" days, this is the result of a last ditch effort... leaving in the Lustrasilk DT!! To avoid the product-y feel, I coated with FSG/aloe mixture. Essentially, I shellacked the moisture in!! There's a bit of movement, but not in the least natural looking. Is this where I SOTC?!

The one I bought (Lustrasilk Cholestrol Deep Conditioning Cream enriched with Carrot Oil for dry damaged hair--it was the only one at the grocery store at the time) made my hair look amazing, but gave it an almost waxy coating. I think I may of just used to much. It wasn't like, pure wax, but I noticed it felt almost sythetic, and a little stiff. Maybe I'm just not used to my hair being smooth! It looked great.

Side note: anyone get buildup with Lustrasilk? I'm wondering if the shea and oils are coating and building up with repeated use.

My inner pj started to roar to be fed recently so I went to my local sallys and got the LOOC and the shea/mango. They don't have the argan oil one yet but once they do I'll be investing the whopping $3 in that one too.

So yesterday as soon as I bought it I had to scrunch in a bit of the mango....LURVE the smell. It worked ok to scrunch out the crunch I had. I think I'll like it rinsed out better though.

Today I decided it was time for a day of hair pampering. I got a ton of new products recently again due to that lovely pj roaring. So I used the shea/mango to top my CO (I used John Masters Organics rosemary/peppermint detangler as CO...this is my new fave to CO with)....I guess you could say I CO'd with it too then......then rinsed and did a DT with CJ H&B deep fix for 2 hours. Rinsed that, added LOOC as my LI today, topped with DM Miracurl Gelly and CJ Aloe Gel. Plopped and atm it's air drying. I may diffuse some just to see what the final look would be like on a work day.

But WOW....my hair us UBER soft in the back where it's starting to dry completely. The only issue I may have today is not being able to keep my little paws out of my hair!!!!!

eta it doesn't feel producty either.

OK I'm a total believer now.

Yesterday afternoon my ends were feeling cruddy so I scrunched in some hair milk I have....and it left my hair feeling crunchy and oily and greasy at the same time. It was like the milk stayed on the surface of my hair. EW. So Today I decided to cleanse again.

I started with Lustrasilk Shea/mango on the midshaft/ends, then soap barred. more Shea/Mango, then bar again. Spectrum organics ACV rinse 1:8 with water, left in, CJ H&B deep fix, rinse. All I put in was LOOC for a LI/Styler. It's the weekend; I wanted to see how it would do.

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got curl enhancement, some hold, AND it's touchable.

Now if only it will keep doing this for me on a regular basis.

I stumbled on the LOOC at my local Krogers, a grocery store! Even more amazing -- it's part of the mega sale for $2 each. If you buy 10 participating items, they take another $5 off. Essentially, it works out to $1.50 each. Holy cow!

I;m kinda late to this but I will put in my input:
Some ladies have said the mango & shea one feels very producty in their hair... did you use it as a leave in or a DT? And if so how much did you leave in b.c the tub says to rinse thouroughly even thou I did leave in a very small amount it really shouldnt be too much to weigh me down.. but its probably the amount you guys are using because when I put it in as a DT my hair really drank it up I was tempted to put in more but less is more for me so that might be your problem... SO far its been amazing in my hair love the scent nice clumps MY hair is finally NOT dry anymore from the over shampooing I did last month this is definetly a keeper for me.. Im prolly just gunna use it as a DT once a week or twice depends.. Will post pics later!

are SO much more fun to play with ^^

OMG this is 11 pages! I read the first few, then skipped around, then read the last few. From what I gather, some people are using Lustrasilk as a leave-in and styler, correct?

I got some of the OOC from a swap and just tried it tonight. I used about 1.5 quarter-sized blobs on wet hair and worked it through. I did not use any gel or anything. Now that it's dried, it looks like I might have missed a few spots that look a little frizzy, but not bad overall. My hair does not feel producty at all, rather it feels clean and bare of product. My hair feels soft and the curl is good.

I guess I can spritz my hair in the AM and work a little more LOOC into the dry areas.

The only thing I didn't care for is the scent--smells like old roses, the kind you smell on old ladies and in bathroom spray. Some people like that scent, I do not. I like roses but not that particular type of old rose smell.

So I recently discovered that while protien doesnt turn me into a frizz ball, it is what was causing the friz that I couldnt seem to get rid of.

I figured I would find some of the Lustrasilk Shea Mango and give it a try. I had to look EVERYWHERE for this and it finally dawned on me that the Sallys and grocery stores in the Detroit area are small because there are so many beauty supply stores that cater to ethnic hair.

So hit up the nearest one and sure enough they had all versions of it except the argon oil one. They also had a liquid version that came in a bottle for a little less than the tub. The ingrediants looked almost the same but I figured I would stay with the original.

I tried this stuff and my frizz is gone. I used it as my LI under HESMU gel. Nice soft defined curls. Its good stuff and for under 4 bucks you cant beat it.

I dipped two fingers in there and thats all the product I used. I might try it another day with no gel and see how it goes.

Thanks for the heads up ladies!

After reading through this thread (twice! ), I finally hunted down a Sally's in the area that actually carried the OOC and S&M...

I have used the ooc 2 of the last 3 days as a LI, and so far I like it...I think I don't know if I'm using enough? Or maybe too much? my hair still feels a little on the dry side (which is just crazy in and of itself - I've always been a oil slick...amazing what the right products/routine can do!), and I have a bit of frizz today (dews in the low 30's)...

when I used the OOC on Sunday, my hair looked and felt great...shiny, bouncy, still could have used a teensy bit more moisture, but I went light on the OOC as it was the first time I used it...today I have a LOT more frizz, but I'm now wondering if that might be due to the rinse out I used?

I've used the Shea & Mango as a DT in wet hair (not moisturising enough) and as a leave in (too producty) so decided to try today as a DT on dry hair. It was a spur of the moment thing so it actually only stayed on 30 mins but liked it! Hair felt very smooth with plenty of slip as I rinsed then cowashed out! Will keep using over the next few weeks, now it's officially cold! FYI: Temp in London today 36F (feels way colder) and sunny, and dew point 27F.

bump!

this is my second time trying it as a leave in, the first time....well i'd used henna/amla and my hair was acting special.

after harassing alexjoujou tonight lol i cowashed with some vo5, conditioned with lvpng, and used the argan oil one all over with my hair still soaking wet. i combed through and bunned each section, and took each one out and added about a quarter size of fuzzy duck gel and a little bit of clear ecostyler on top. my hair is halfway dry, shrinking (story of my life but ill stretch in the morning) but i have nice, tight shiny curls.

the argan oil one does smell artificial like ajj said, but i do like it! i think i'd need to mix in honey and oil to use as a deep conditioner though.

What a gal's gotta do to get hair product! When this thread started, I decided I had to try the OOC. Sallys doesn't deliver to Canada, and I couldn't find it anywhere else. So... I ordered the OOC from Sallys and had it shipped to a friend in California. She took it to another friend who was driving to Mexico. When I got to Mexico, there it was waiting for me! After all of that, I was thrilled to find I love the product as a leave-in.
