I don't think it's hold per se, but my curls are staying in pretty well. I haven't been using my KCCC this week, but I might use it on top of the Lustrasilk next week to see what that does. I think I need more moisture than hold right now, so the added moisture alone is helping to hold the curl a bit.

I am so grateful for this thread! I was *just* about to post that I had completely given up on my hair in this weather when I saw this thread. My hair has been TERRIBLE lately with these extremely low dew points and frigid air plus dry heat in the house. I rushed out and bought the olive oil one and I'll try it tomorrow.

Boots brought my spirals back this week! I do get weighed down when I use too much, so I'm careful now.
I used about a quarter-sized amount of the lustrasilk, smoothed in like I'm putting my hair in a ponytail. Then I used maybe a dime-sized amount of boots, just enough so that when emulsified, it coated my hands in white (like Jillipoo's blog, I'm not good at explaining it, lol). I smoothed that in the same way, then flipped over and did the "pump and scrunch" upside down and to the sides. I plop twice for ten min each, scrunching in Aussie Sculpting gel in between plops.
I've done it a few times this week with KCKT as my leave-in, and have gotten clumps and spirals every time!

I'm pretty sure it has mineral oil in it (basically petroleum..), which needs a sulfate to remove.

My PJ is very thrilled with the news of this new miracle product. The pocketbook is gonna have a lecture for me though. Hey, at least it's under $3 and if it's a good as it sounds as a leave in my wallet should be happy I'm not spending mega bucks on Knot Today or KBB Milk leave-ins.
I went to my local Sally's and they didn't carry it there So I asked if the product could be ordered for me but the salesperson said that she couldn't do an order and I should just get it online. That's exactly what I was trying to avoid.
Well, I guess I will try to visit another once on sunday when I'm out of town.

My Sally's didn't carry it either, and the clerks acted like snots when I asked about special ordering: "Uhhhhhhh, like, that IS why we have a website. You know, like, the internet?" These girls were like the Beavis and Butthead of retail.
On the flip side, I tried another Sally's, where the only employee in the store was a MALE manager, who was just incredibly nice! He was intrigued w/ my purchase (I got the Olive Oil and the Shea Butter) so I told him about the site chatter and he was so interested, and he also gave me several curl compliments, which is always awesome!
So, I can't wait to start trying these later today. I also can NOT believe what an AMAZING bargain these conditioners are, two giant tubs for $5!!

I got the same attitude from the girl at my store. Although interestingly enough, there was another product, in the same orange look tub, with "silk" and "cholesterol" in the name of it (can't remember which) and she tried to sell me that instead, lol. I guess I'll just call in and ask to speak with the manager. I've met her a few times, really nice lady. Ack I wish I could remember her name to ask for! My PJ demon is put on hold again.
You know, this seems like a common problem- the store employees being bimbos or something (of course not all are like this). Why are they hiring people like this to work there? The customer service at Sally's (except when the manager was there) and Trade Secret have been some of the worst I've experienced on a very typical basis. Like I'm lucky if they even look me in the eye and greet me lol!

I'm still loving this stuff!
I really want to try the Olive one too but I really don't think I need another tub of this stuff for now. I'm only using it as a leave in so one tub should last me for months.

there was something in it that gave one section of my hair an almost gel-like crunch (i used the olive oil by itself as a leave-in, no styling products). maybe the oils? but it was only one handful of hair, and obviously that section got more than the rest.
not sure how i feel about it as a leave-in yet, though. my hair was kind of tangly, even though it had ok shine. not sure if i used too much or if my hair just isn't thrilled with oils in leave-ins. hm. will probably pick up one of the shea butter varieties today and experiment with the olive oil as a rinse-out.

With so many of you having problems with Sally's service, have you thought of emailing the company?
I've been lucky to not have issues, but it seems I'm one of the few. Maybe they don't pay well enough to attract decent part-timers.

I'm excited...gonna use the Olive Oil one today as a leave-in/curl cream...then tomorrow I'll use the Mango one as a DT.
I have fine-textured, mostly 3a hair, I guess two inches below my shoulders...should I just use the amount of a quarter-size or a fifty-cent piece size? I'd rather use not enough than too much. I only airdry...I should probably just use the quarter-size, huh? Oh well, if I use too much, I'll rinse it out, I guess. I don't have anywhere to go until later this evening.

Ok I did it! I used my Lustrasilk Shea and Mango last night/today
I started off my personal lustrasilk mania by using it for a DT last night. I put it on dry hair for about an hour, then I got my hair wet and raked some more through, put it in a bun, and left it in overnight. My hair smelled very magno-y when I woke up and it felt soft.
Then I showered. I cowashed with suave coconut, then I used Lustrasilk (still the mango kind) as a rinse out. It didn't give me very good slip. I was a tad disappointed. I thought about putting some LVPNG on top of it, but I figured I'd just go with it and see what the mango would do alone.
So I got out of the shower, finger combed, and then raked through some more Lustrasilk as a leave in. My hair is about 1.5 inches below my shoulders right now and I would say I used a little more than a quarter size. Still didn't get good slip. My hair felt kind of tangly after this.
Because of that, I decided that maybe using just that wouldn't be a good idea. I raked/scrunched some DM Honey and Aloe on top (used about 2 dimes worth), then I decided that just to be safe I'd scrunch in my normal amount of LA Looks Sport Gel (a nickle sized puddle on each side and upside down).
I'm currently plopping. I'm planning on doing that for another 20 minutes or so. And then it'll take forever to dry...so I'll post my results eventually

That's a good idea. Based on my own experience, I think it's time to let them know how much they disappoint people. I'll let you all know what they tell me.

Yeah. I thought of the posts here and your blog entry, and was surprised to see how many stores were denying to order something. Whether they didn't know or didn't care seems irrelevant. If one store offers it, I think others would. I think something like that would be company policy, not store policy.

Well, so far so good.
I water washed my hair. I didn't have product in it, except some Kiehl's leave-in from yesterday. I lightly conditioned it with VO5 chamomile...almost a CO washing on the ends...rubbed it in really well.
Rinsed. Used microfiber towel. My husband called me...dang it. My hair was less wet than I wanted it to be when I put in the Lustrasilk, but it worked out anyways.
Or at least it seems to.
My hair is still wet, but it looks rather good.
After I put my hair down from the microfiber towel. I put on a huge glob of the Olive Oil one...my hair absorbed it pretty quickly. So I ended up putting two smaller globs on--on top of that! Strange! Luckily it's a big tub and it's dirt cheap. Had this been some expensive salon stuff, I would've been PO'ed by this.
It looks like the hairs that lay against my neck are curling. They are usually straight. I have this weird straight layer underneath my curly hair...it's hardly noticeable...and actually I like it, it's silky around my neck. But I noticed with the Olive Oil stuff and some encouragement from my hands, it curled rather easily. Hopefully it'll stay curly.
So far the clumping is thinner than usual, but it still looks cute. My hairs usually clump together in larger quantities, but if it's moisturized, frizz-free, and cute...which so far, seems to be the case, I'm okay with that.
It's wet, but it seems less poofy at this stage. By now, my hair should be gaining a little more volume than this. And I"m happy with that. I want some volume, but usually I have too much volume, but I usually settle for that, as I don't like the weighed down wet look. This looks like a good compromise, provided that it doesn't dry looking too wet to scrunch out.
We'll see. I'll report after my hair dries completely.

Walmart!
Hello! I am new to nc. I just recently decided to stop straightening my hair by cutting the relaxer out and wear it natural. If I had to guess I would be a 3c maybe? Anyhow nc was recommended by a friend of mine but I read this thread and wanted to chime in... If you don't want to purchase the Lustrasilk at Sally's you can go to Wal-Mart's website and type in your zipcode and they will show you if it's available in your local stores I just did this so I'm on my way to Wal-Mart instead of Sally's! Hope this helps

Well, I used this today as a rinse-out and a leave-in, and I'm *cautiously* optimistic. It does not weigh my hair down at all, although there is less clumping. Of course, since today was the day I wanted to try it in this arid weather, the dew point goes from single digits during the whole past week to 27 today. Grrrr. So, I won't know for sure how it works in really dry weather until the dew point drops again. But, so far so good.
