Tell me if this is a dumb idea
While I was in the shower, I was mentally complaining about the weather in my little inner monologue and what it's been doing to my hair. I feel very dry compared to when I started CG and even though I can get curl formation and all, it just doesn't look like it used it. So I had this thought.
I'm already using moisturizing products. I don't use the re:coil more than 2x per week and it actually doesn't dry me out (like, my hair is softer on days when I use it) so I really don't think it's a product issue.
I think that it's because, as a college student, I spend a lot of my time walking around in the dry dry wind. I haven't done a moisture DT lately, but I will do one this weekend (too bad my lustrasilk won't be here yet). I always use a moisturizing leave in, and I don't diffuse but maybe once every couple of weeks so the dryness I really don't think is coming from products or styling. That's why I'm thinking it's the weather
So after all that, here's my idea. In trying to pack in as much moisture as I can in a wash, I had the thought to use 2 different rinse outs. I'm always torn between using my LVNPG for protein (hair loves protein) and my AOHR for moisture. I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who mixes two conditioners for a rinse out, or even if there's anyone who applies the two conditioners separately.

I've definitely used two conditioners as rinse outs before. Used KBB and Suave, Suave and Biolage Conditioning Balm, etc. USUALLY it's not an intentional thing when i get into the shower. I just use one, and my hair doesn't feel quite the way i was shooting for, so I try another. *shrug*
I don't think it can hurt anything, especially if your hair feels dry already. I have to watch out of overconditioning, so I can't double up on conditioners very often... it's a good replacement for a DT on me though.

The only thing I do that is similar (but not really) is when I apply my rinse-out conditioner, if it doesn't detangle easily, I'll then apply KCKT, or another conditioner with good slip, because this way my comb will glide effortlessly through my hair. I haven't noticed any problem with the mixing of the two conditioners. In your situation, though, maybe you could try rotating in your protein conditioner a little less often and use the moisturizing one more. My hair loves protein, too, but I have to watch the balance of that and moisture.

You know, I do that all the time. If I have to do a sulfate wash, I mix my old Suave clarifying shampoo (I can't believe I used to use that every day!) with my co-wash conditioner to make it a little less harsh. I've mixed conditioners before to get the effect I want, and I've also mixed styling products.

Nope, it isn't a dumb idea. I say give it a try.
I, too, often have an inner dialogue about hair and other issues. I told myself I'm not crazy but I don't trust myself, I think I might be a little.

I mix my hair stuff all the time, like on a daily basis with gels... I say go for it. Shoot, that just gave me an idea for tomorrow, thanks!

Thanks everyone I think next wash I'm going to mix the two and just see what happens. This opens up a whole new world of experiment possibilities haha.

I've done this too! I just suggested doing this to CurlyinColorado cuz she has trouble detangling with just AOHR. Getting the slip 1st makes perfect sense
