My hair feels more like "me" when it's curly, but even more so when it's longer. When it's long and curly, I get tons of compliments. Right now it's shoulder length and growing out - not many compliments lately.

Makes me wonder if the rogue stylist who cut two feet off of my hair and layered it into a freakin mullet-ish non-style when I asked for 6 inches off and light layers, has any idea of how much her actions affected me. I had to have it cut up to my chin just get a wearable style (that coincidentally had to be straightened with a flat iron every day) and it has taken well over a year to even get back to shoulder length. I guess with another year or so of growth (two years + in total) it will be down to the length I originally asked to be trimmed up to and I will feel like "myself" again. Biatch.

Rant over, carry on.......

April-Have you tried Biotin to speed up growth?? Specklas hair grew like WEEDS taking that stuff. Pretty soon you'll have Sunshine doing your hair and all your worries will be OVER

I really miss my long hair, it feels like it's just more "me" than my current length. (just above the shoulders) I had something similar happen to me almost a year ago. I ended up having just short of 10 inches of hair cut off. You are SO not alone. Perhaps I will try biotin also, I miss my long hair.

*shock*

Has my topic been bumped?

So that makes me wonder... to straighies feel as unique as curlies?

I know that when I wear/wore my hair straight, I certainly didn't feel as unique. I knew I was still the same person generally speaking, but I just didn't feel like I stood out (which is why I did it so often - I didn't want to stand out.)

Yup. Sounds like me!
This is me to a T!!! Glad I'm not the only one . It's nice to know that not only is it OK to accept our hair for what it is, but also ourselves in general.

Well, the few times I've straightened I totally did not feel like myself, so yeah, I guess my hair is "me."

But I'm sure straighties have other reasons to feel unique... I mean, my hair isn't exactly the only thing that defines me.

I haven't straightened my hair in a couple of years now, but if I do - it doesn't feel like me. My DH hates it when it is straight - it's not you - just looks like everyone else.

Now that my hair is growing longer, it feels like me. When I cut it too short, it doesn't feel like me. It feels like my Mom's hair - not a good thing.

My hair perfectly matches my personality.

Feminine, pleasure to look at and just a bit b!!chy.

I've never in my life have straightened it. Never wanted to.

Eh, I'm gonna have to say no! I'm more of a reserved sort of person, and I tend to think that straight hair would fit my personality better. I still lurrrve my curls though. <3

not really...I'm not defined by my hair, my hair's just an extension of me. My hair's bouncy and happy straight or curly, and unpredictable.

I agree! I love my hair when it's longer. Right now it's just at a mid-length that I don't like on me. So currently I like my hair better straight.

well i feel that my hair is definitely me and i am thrilled with my curls and the health of my hair since i've been CG--over 4 yrs now. my problem tho is aging. my hair is young but my face is getting older. at some point i might have to stop coloring and go gray which means i will have to cut it short. everyone in my life really likes my hair except for one older woman who thinks it is too long and says i am trying to look too young for my years. for now, it stays long and colored. so we'll see what happens in this hair journey....any of you in a similar position?

My hair is a big part of my identity. Once I accepted my curls thirty years ago, there was never another intentional straight haired day. Since coming to nc.com and learning how to make them better--I couldn't be happier.

My hair is definitely an extension of who I am. It's unique, eye-catching, fun, wild, and random just like me.

well i'd rather have my hair curly because i like to stick out a little bit and not blend in so much. but i'd lovelovelovelove it even more if i could just get the frizz to stay away throughout the day!

Yeah...uh. I have to be one of the odd ones out with this one.

I guess it's cause my hair is in really bad condition and I've been wearing my hair straight for the past three years.

Yes... Whim, I think I'm the same way. I've always had kind of an "in-control" personality, and my hair is totally out of control!

On the other hand, sometimes I do have have my head in the clouds, and my hair does sort of look like a cloud...

Hmmm....
