Angry I've got Scissors and I'm about to use them

Does anyone have one side shorter than the other??? I SWEAR and this could be the WINTER problems again....But one side of my hair is COMPLETELY different from the other?! It's making me INSANE I want to cut the bad side into shorter layers because it seems they are too long. The other side is perfectly fine. Does anyone know if their stylist cuts one side more than the other???

Smile I know what you are talking about!

Yes!! I also have one side of my hair that tends to be longer than the other, as a matter of fact the back of my hair is always shorter than the front and sides, for some reason the front and sides of my hair grow long and thick and shiny and wavy, and the back grows in curlier and drier and very hard to manage. But DONT CUT IT! I wouldn't advise you to cut all your hair, or that one side, curly hair is tricky. I cut one side of my hair once, to even it out, and then when I straightened my hair with a flat iron, I realized that it was generally all the same length and that now I had a chopped off piece lol. I think the best thing you can do is straighten it quickly with a blow dryer or something, and then see where all the hair falls, and check if one side is really longer or not before you cut it. And if it is, just get layers! hope that helps.

If you always wear your hair curly, I say to go ahead and cut. I have pieces that curl much looser and the hair at the nape of my neck is straight so I always have to keep it shorter than the rest.

I don't straighten my hair ever but I have a feeling it would look ridiculous and completely choppy if I ever did.

I've been having that problem the last couple months also. The left side of my hair has been way less curly than the right. Next cut I may go for some layers but then again only another 2 more months of the cold dry weather so I may not even bother.

My stylist has done different length layers on different sides for a couple of his clients because they begged him. But he strongly cautioned them to not part their hair differently or to completely straighten as it would look funny.

Thanks for the replies girls! I know my head is some kind of FREAK SHOW with porosity/texture and blah, blah but this one side thing UGH just another thing to add!!! I think I may BEG my stylist next time to cut it differently. It couldn't POSSIBLY get any worse, I'm just gonna pick up those longer layers and snip a bit nothing drastic. I never straighten anyway and my natural part goes where it does every time. Off I go to get my haircutting scissors.

OMG, Del, I was gonna tell you to BACK AWAY from the scissors, slowly!

But you have become quite the hair expert, so if anybody is up to this task, I am guessing it's you. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.....

TY lovely lady!!!! I don't think I"m an expert though

It actually looks A LOT better. So what if I'm lopsided no one will ever know I've already done my hair for the day (only once today I SWEAR) so hopefully it will look OK next wash if not snip, snip some more.....HEEE HEEE! I've got tons and tons of hair it wouldn't surprise me if I have to do it again.

If someone else was going to try this: Don't cut straight across, cut at an angle and don't use utility scissors!! I just picked up like 4 pcs. where it was buggin' me. This isn't the 1st time I've done this but it's the 1st time I've only touched up one side.

It appears I'm late to the party again. I was going to say not to do it, but you've already gone and done it. When I finally get my haircutting license, I'm moving to your city, just to talk you down off your ledges.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

The problem with lopsidedness is that it's usually only temporary. So then what do you do when that side goes away and the other side becomse lopsided? Then you just create a nightmare for your stylist to fix!

Where were you again? Somewhere warm and sunshiny? Because this bitter (Not really, it's like 20's-high 40's) cold, dry weather is killing me.

The only Sunshine around here is ME, I'm in NH and it's COLD and DRY........
Well I only snipped about 1/2" so that shouldn't be too much of a nightmare for her to fix. Do you think I should just have her cut it shorter on one side when she does it? The wave pattern is completely diff. on that side! No matter what I do. More scrunching, product doesn't matter it just does not cooperate.

If it's consistently that way, then yes, ask her to cut it about 1/4" to 1/2" shorter. She'll baulk, but be insistent. She might even have you sign a disclaimer. Paranoia........

Well up until this haircut it wasn't QUITE as bad and I really don't know what happened. All I do know is it's much better since taking off that 1/2" so it will get me by for a while......

I have that cause one side is much curlier then the other. My stylist WILL NOT cut my hair to compensate and I dont have the cojones. SO I compensate by parting it a certain way, applying more gel to the looser side, etc.....

Put the scissors down....get 1/2" clippers - they're faster!

I just cut my hair today too! I am well pleased.

lately I have been layering it by combing straight up and cutting straight across which I like because it's easy and my hair is really thick so lots of layers are useful.

the hair on my crown grows perpendicular to my scalp and has wave and more lift, but the hair on the sides & nape grows straight down and is mostly straight, so I had a big gap in the layers that was bugging me. today I cut the sides & nape a little shorter so that there's not a big gap in the layers.

yay for not having to explain to a stylist what I want!

You could be a nomad of curly styling.
You'd have a theme and you'd get to travel and curly haired women everywhere would get to have amazing curly haircuts!

And to the OP, I cut pieces of my hair that stick out all the time, they're almost always bottom layer ones, but I never straighten so it makes no difference.
